Keane: Nothing Imminent on Loan Signings
Keane: Nothing Imminent on Loan Signings
Monday, 8th Feb 2010 10:46

Town manager Roy Keane says no new loan additions are close to being added to his squad and no one is on the verge of leaving for pastures new. Last week the Blues boss revealed that he was looking for cover in a couple of areas — probably a left-back and a right-sided centre-half — and had received interest in some of his players from elsewhere.

Keane says there have been no developments over the weekend: ”Not at the moment. We’ve had enough to focus on over the last week, I got the two lads in and we had the games coming up.

“I’ve not thought too much about it. There are one or two positions that I keep saying I’d like to strengthen, but we’re not going to panic over the next week or two.

“If we can get a player who can improve us, fantastic, but I’m not going to bring in a player who is going to be the same as what we’ve got, there’s no point because I want to be fair to the players here.

“There are good lads who have been training well here and they might get their chance over the next week or two.”

Similarly, no one has yet called back regarding last week’s contact about members of Keane’s squad: “If people follow up their initial calls this week remains to be seen. It all depends what happens at clubs in terms of injuries or suspensions.

“There’s always interest in the younger players, we get phone calls on a regular basis about the young lads. But if we send them out we’re not going to be dismissive of them and send them just anywhere. We want to be careful where we send them.

“But the calls last week were about some of our senior players. Our squad’s not that big at the moment, so we have to be very, very careful. It depends if I can bring one or two in, which is certainly not close at the moment.”

Midfielder Lee Martin is out of Tuesday’s game at QPR with a hamstring injury, but there are no new injuries, aside from a few knocks which won’t keep anyone out of the trip to Loftus Road.

Skipper Jon Walters came through Saturday’s game unscathed after his surprise return from his hamstring problem.

I agree with the comments that there are some really good posts. For me its nice (kind of) to have the dilema of too many good midfielders. Garvan I think is one of the best in the league (on his day) and Keane needs to give him a run in the side.
We need to get a consistent first 11 going. Defence is starting to work because they are getting familiar with each other. Midfield has shown flashes and up front, well that just a disaster. However Mighty Murphy Power Ranger and healey showed that with a good understanding up front it can produce goal(s)

I really think we will take QPR apart tomorrow.

Surco...spelling his name correctly wont change anything and critcising me for my spelling is the lowest of lows this is not a message board for English language students.
match reports, statistics, Roy Keane, comments from an actual striker playing for the actual team in question all back up the fact that we create a lot of chances not just my own eyes, what do you have other than your Owen Garvan tinted glasses, he is a great player on his day but on most he is a 1 trick pony and that 1 trick is not good enough for 90 mins. every game. And Keane is right to play him as he currently is in my unprofessional opinion he needs to pick up some consistency and some responsibility off the ball as far as playing in the middle of a 4-4-2 midfield goes
hes less risky on the left and you still benefit from his passing out there but he is not great on a wing.

i dnt think we need anymore players, we have a very capable group of players. Maybe they r being managed incorrectly i dont know. I wasnt keanes biggest fan when we got him, but i can see what he is trying to do. All i care about now is survival and to do that and get results and get some confidence back ITFC needs all its fans backing the manager. Aslong as we are in the championship next year i will ne happy and we can start again, coz lets face it this season is a complete mess, but changing the manager now would be pointless and i think he deserves time. Up the town!!!

i agree del1boy
The only exception would be a player that Keane wants permanently that will come on loan for now like the left back we all know he wants
or if he feels he needs defensive cover like all the story's say as only Smith can be recalled i believe

Blueknight the only statistic that means anything is wins and points in the league ,how many wins have we had without Garvan playing ?
And the less risky comment is exactly the problem of the team we are more worried about stopping the opposition than attacking them which is why out two central midfielders are sat so deep and not getting into the opposition box.
Also through my Garvan glasses i personally think he is better at set pieces than anyone else because they have been poor all season and Keane wonders why we are not more of a threat from them ,clear the first man from corners and we may have a chance of scoring

Brockley, I am cold and its snowing, my daughter is unwell, my wife is pregnant and in pain, my team, who i stick up for ALL of the time, and get slated for are under achieving, and i have to get up really early tomorrow, and boy do i like my bed......
But that QPR fans rant has brought a smile to my face, a chuckle to my throat, and a warm damp patch in my trousers....thank you.

surco...your point was that we are not creating chances so clearly the statistics that count against your post are the statistics that state we are creating plenty of chances.........
I like Garvans free kicks to be honest but you obviously didn't see his corners 1 in particular against Middlesbrough did exactly what you are complaining about it didn't clear the first defender.
Also we haven't had many wins period to say Garvan was the difference is absolutely ridiculous just as much so if i was to say that the score draws he played in would have been wins if he had not of played.
if the answer is a more attacking midfielder in the middle then the answer is to ask Norris to do the job as he did at Preston not to change the player.
but that is down to how Keane wants to play if that happens you would probably be asking Walters to sit back more (as an example)
But again we have been and continue to create many chances the diagnosis has been for a long time that the defence has started playing really well and we are creating lots of chances but the strikers haven't been putting them away
We now have two new strikers that will hopefully start banging those chances in there's no need to go messing with everything else just yet and trying to find new faults just because your man crush is not playing and/or you don't like the manager Garvan is a talented prospect and could very well cement himself into a spot as he improves the rest of his game but he is not a messiah or the cure to a problem that doesn't exist.

Of course Garvan should play. Of course Leadbitter, Norris and Colback are too similar. Of course Garvan should play left mid and that means that of course we need pace upfront to get on the end of his through balls (and to compenstae for Garvans geriatric lack of pace).
Piece of cake this managment lark. Keane just makes it look hard.

I think it must have been reported. Apologies for any offence caused by it, it was just a bit of fun and just nice to see a fan from another team in meltdown.

Fingers crossed for a big win tonight. 4-2 to the town - healey x2, murphy, delaney
