Keane: Fans Have Been Magnificent
Keane: Fans Have Been Magnificent
Thursday, 11th Feb 2010 16:47

Town boss Roy Keane has thanked fans for their patience during what has been a disappointing season. The Blues boss says he will be making sure his players give due thanks to supporters after future games, having been unhappy that some have failed to do so in the past.

Keane told the club site: "Our fans have been magnificent this season. They could easily have lost patience with some of the players, the team and myself but they haven't done that.

"We all appreciate it. Some of my players have disappeared down the tunnel too quick for my liking in some games without showing their thanks to the supporters - that won't be happening again, you can be sure about that.

"Our fans have travelled in large numbers and at home, we have been hitting 20,000 - in a season which has been disappointing.

"I want us to get up to 30,000 and see the place full up. That will only come with us winning football matches. If we are winning games every week, the supporters will come in their numbers."

tuesday's game was first class in the first half but as so often has happened this season the second half we took our foot off and we were lucky not to conceed another. i was there and the fans were great, as always and i back Keano but we do need to see more consistent comitment from the players!

well, there is always the adage that you make your own luck, and admittedly i've always subscribed; so i concede to an extent. But there again, I don't kid myself too often and I truly, truly feel we've been unlucky. I was prophetically in Novembe, saying a concern of mine was that this bad luck would only be read as failings later in the season, and without taking any more gratification than that, this is what is happening.

I agree re Burley. He is and remains my hero in football. (along with andres iniesta oddly) What he did at Town was nothing short of miracles. I look at West Brom with Marvel and respect these days, and wonder if Mogga will ever come and do the same for us. I wouldn't mind seeing him at Town in the future. But WB are exceptional, and frankly not the most consistent in what is, simply, a steeplechase league.

But i cant agree about the league not changing. I'm afraid simply it has. Teams like Portsmouth, Birmingham, Hull, Stoke, Doncaster, Scunthorpe, even Burnley etc, etc have all come from nowhere, some with financing and others in a similar vein to ITFC; with club history peaks and troughs. But now so so many clubs are contenders. The Championship is full of promotion potentials, and that is reflected in the current table. I would say the quality has improved a little, the tactics have not as much and that the teams within have abutted frighteningly. In all and absolute honesty, our rightful place is probably not really the Prem consistently, but while awful clubs like Hull and Stoke are there, we should damn well be fighting to be there instead, and we've tasted what it's like and know it's possible.

I know we did better under Majilton points wise last season, but i dont think we were better, and i still believe, afforded the chance, RK will deliver. But It cannot be all eyes on RK, sort it out. It should be Club, Fan, Player and Manager engineered. I think he's doing, Nearly, all he can. We'll certainly know this if another manager comes in.

The acquisition of Birmingham by Yeung is another example of how a single move can change the leagues below. They're all but guaranteed Prem footie now. And there are, simply, bigger clubs than ITFC in the Championship now, and i hate to say it, but League one too. (Not the scum, although, credit where due, pains to say, they have an admirable support) (i certainly wouldnt bother going to carrow road if i were them ;-).

My final point is i'm desperate to see some intelligent pricing schemes introduced to ticketing. It's a sin that seats are empty each week. I have no doubt an ebay-esque member ticket system, with of course minimum ticket prices, but also user defined maximums, (ie i'll pay £15 no more for this, green light when available on average and red when lost, u catch the drift, it's doable) where all seats are guaranteed to be filled each week. If the club made the same cash in selling 27,000 tickets as 20,000 it would benefit the team ultimately, and promotion can be the reason to hike only.

Empty seats are simply scandalous.

Dont get me wrong im an ipswich fan, But are we are blinded by Keane being a big name?

We are seriously in a relegation fight and the play-offs is out of sight. If Magilton, Royle or Burley had us in this mess everyone would have called for them to be sacked- In fact we all did! But none of them spent the kind of money Keane has.

10 points is catchable i will admit- but we have to WIN games. 48 points left to play for and to realistically make the play-offs we need about 37-40 points. can people honestly say we are only going to drop 8-11 points in that time?
