Healy Delighted With Scrappy First Goal
Healy Delighted With Scrappy First Goal
Friday, 26th Feb 2010 07:14

Striker David Healy says he was delighted to score his first Town goal at Scunthorpe on Tuesday and is confident that he can add to his total against Bristol City on Saturday.

Writing in his column in the Belfast Telegraph, Healy said: “It was a scrappy goal, but to be honest I didn’t care one little bit.

“It’s been a long time coming and I was delighted when it arrived, especially because it brought us a vital point in our battle to move up the Championship table.

“I am getting more game time and am feeling fitter and sharper than I have done for some time.

“I know I have been training day in day out for the past year, but nothing beats playing matches and that’s what I’m doing at Ipswich.

“We face Bristol City at the weekend and I’m feeling confident that if I get another chance I’ll put it away.”

Meanwhile, England boss Fabio Capello is in Ipswich today to open Suffolk New College.

Capello says he’s not been to Ipswich before: “This will be my first visit to Ipswich and I'm very pleased to have been invited to Suffolk New College to officially open the new building.”

Elsewhere, Town are reported to be interested in signing former midfielder Darren Ambrose on loan from Crystal Palace, although Neil Warnock is said to be ready to take the ex-England U21 international to QPR when he moves to Loftus Road. The Eagles boss is expected to switch clubs next week.

Ambrose, who came through the Town academy system and then had a spell back on loan last year, has scored 17 goals from midfield during 2009/10, but yesterday manager Roy Keane ruled out further loan moves before the end of the season except as cover for injuries.

Good man DH - score a couple more tomorrow please and even some of the miserable gits who post on here may cheer up a bit.

Unfortunately Ambrose is more likely to follow Warnock, than come back here.

Get ambrose back! On his day he can walk into half the premiership, he's got experience now and under magiltons reign he played 5 games?! Get him on laon till end of season and see what he can do he will be right back home too, cmon keano he's scored 11 goals more than our leading goalscorer at the moment and need more goals from midfield

Flip... Yes on his day he's a good player. NOT good enough for the prem and not consistant enough for RK. The way he goes missing, he will get the comment "you will never play for this club again" from RK.

What we have is plenty good enough to keep us safe. Walters hit the nail on the head in his latest interview saying "we all thought we were going up if we turned up"

NOW they have that out of there heads, and a fresh start next season. Promotion beckons. This team we have is a top 3 side ONCE they get rid of the demons.

Great to see Healy get off the mark. I was bemused by the usual barrage of "get rid of him, he's cr*p !" posters on here, who seemed prepared to not give him 10 minutes to prove his worth let alone 10 games! Perhaps just a sign of our deeply frustrating season...
Ambrose - was a great asset at a time when the dynamics of the team were significantly different to those that we have today. I'm not sure that it would be any more of a successsful return than it was last time.

blue-em-away - I think that you are mis-quoting JW. The quote actually reads "When the manager came in, those expectations shot through the roof and maybe some players thought that would be it, we would just turn up and go up because of the manager, but it doesn't work like that."

I think that the key words here are "some players". Personally, I doubt that JW was one of those.

I'm biased about young Mr Healy so I'll just nod and smile.
Darren AMbrose, on current form, would be a breath of fresh air. Lets get him.

Bring on Dambrose. Always liked that guy. As for Healy. Keep getting them scrappy lil buggers. As they say, any goals a hole.

Warwickblue as you say a player needs 10 games or so to judge him on so why are you judging Ambrose on 6 starts on loan last year as unsuccessful ?

Sorted, am useless at 7am! Blame Roy for having such early press conferences.

Ambrose would be quality. Left side problem solved. Good at set pieces (which has been below par).
But unfortunately he's not a Roy keane type player - why have a talented goalscoring midfielder when you can pack the midfield with similar workhorses like leadbitter, colback and Norris.
Disappointing.

its interesting how the signings of healy and murphy have been unfolding. when the loans were first announced, healy, rather then murphy was the one i was most happy with. in fact, when we tried to sign murphy earlier in the season i was scepticle but since he's arrived he's been a breath of fresh air, looked really good. healy has his issues with fitness obviously but now he's off the mark aswell, things looking a bit brighter. both players have teased at moving to town permanently, just wondering who fans would rather see stay, if not of course both?
murphy has played well since coming in and although has indicated that a permenant switch wouldnt be beyond the realms of possibilty it is healy that has given clearer indication of his desire to engineer a move to town and i get the feeling murphy is playing more for another oppurtunity at sunderland rather then a switch to portman road.
maybe a little too early to tell but could these two signings be the saving of our season. cant tell which one i like or am excited by most. also in retrospect, these look like two cracking signings for a club in as bad a position as we have been all season.

Surco72 - fair point, but what I was actually meaning about Ambrose is that he was successful when the entire team was set up with a very different tactical balance. He was part of a successful team then - a team which no longer exists.
