Mystery Three Doubts for Bristol City Clash
Mystery Three Doubts for Bristol City Clash
Friday, 26th Feb 2010 10:36

Boss Roy Keane says he has three doubts ahead of Saturday’s home game with Bristol City. The Town manager wouldn’t reveal the identities of the players, who he doesn’t expect to train today.

Keane said: “There are three lads who haven’t trained and who might not today but I’ll give them every opportunity to see if they’re fit.”

The players are unlikely to be Liam Rosenior, who Keane confirmed was over his illness in time to play against Scunthorpe but the Blues boss preferred to stick with David Wright. The former Wigan man is also likely to be OK despite reports that he underwent a scan earlier in the week.

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson is also keeping his cards close to his chest with a number of similarly unnamed Robins first team squad members missing training due to illness this week.

Keane confirmed that Trinidadian international trialist Kerry Baptiste is at the club but says he’s not yet seen a lot of him: “He’ll be training with us today. I’ve not seen much of the boy this week, a lot of players were off yesterday and he couldn’t play in the reserves match. But he’ll have another few days with us and we’ll have a look at the boy.

“We’ll speak to Carlos who knows him, he’ll certainly train with the first team today and we’ll have a good look at him in training.”

The Town manager dismissed this morning’s link with former Blue Darren Ambrose: “He was at the club before and he’s a good player but no, I think we’ve got good options in midfield. There’s only one area where we need a little bit more and that’s it. If you look at the strikers and the midfield, we’re all right.”

A right-sided centre-half as back-up for Gareth McAuley is probably the area of the squad most in need of an addition.

I understood that David Wright can also cover right sided centre half

I'd be amazed if Rosenior doesn't come back in. Thought DW was our worst player against Sheff Wed, just hoofing it long all game, and conversely, I thought Rosenior was our best player against Middlesbrough (his last game before the illness.)

Whilst it might be somewhat frustrating for fans not to know who the doubts are for the game, I like the fact that RK is playing his cards close to his chest. This not only keeps us guessing but also the opposition. Rosenior provides us with more penetration down the flanks than David Wright although I think Wright is better defensively. On balance, I prefer Rosenior though. I seriously hope that Daryl Murphy is not one of our doubtfuls. Since coming in he has provided a much better focal point for our attackng play. However, let's not forget he was quietish on Tuesday and was substituted with 20 minutes to go - maybe he had a knock - hope not as we would miss him. I think maybe Keane should stick with the same side or possibly bring in Healy and move Walters back into midfield (but who would drop out - Colback or Edwards - or maybe Norris?)

3 points please!
