Walters Has No Plans to Leave
Walters Has No Plans to Leave
Tuesday, 27th Apr 2010 15:31

Skipper Jon Walters says he has no plans to leave the Blues during the summer. The former Chester City striker expects Town’s 2010/11 to be better than their 2009/10 campaign.

Walters says he has heard suggestions that he might be on his way out of the club, but suspects this is because of a misunderstanding regarding his domestic arrangements: “As far as I know I’ll be here next season. This is my plan.

"I think these stories may have started because I’m now renting a house in the town after selling mine. But this is because a proposed purchase broke down.”

The 26-year-old concedes that this season hasn’t been good enough and expects more next time around: “The signs are good for a better campaign after improving greatly on our dreadful start.

“We’re a lot more solid now and have turned things around. There’s no disguising it has been a disappointing season, and we must all take our fair share of blame for this.”

Walters, who netted his eighth goal of the season at Newcastle on Saturday, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2012.

Not worried if he goes anyway.Had one good season then a below average one , then a runbbish one ( last season)

Form slowly declining to league 1 standard.

I am afraid I have to agree he's not brilliant and in fact has on the whole been disappointing - however, he is our leading scorer!

He had one decent season, but after Jim refused to allow him to move to the PL for £3.5M, his form has been very inconsistent, putting in more poor showings than good. I bet he's not worth £3M now!

Sorry but he would not be missed, in fact if he was not in the side maybe the ball would be on the floor a bit more. With him on the right of midfield it always seems as though Murphy is told to aim the ball at him. Trouble it more often than not it does not work

Some people on here have such short memories, Walters carried this team under Magilton and is still one of our top performers and always leads by example. Hoping that 'someone comes in for him' is such rubbish, he's had one bad season in what has been an extremely average season (he also came out and admitted that) but we can't just look to get rid of him.

People talk about having a consistent side out so we need players like Walters, McAuley, Leadbitter, Norris etc to stay and then build a team around them

He's also our captain so I for one hopes and fully expects him to stay and play a massive part in next season!!

Baggins - he has had 2 poor seasons now and hasn't been the same since the injury towards the end of the good season.

He leads by example = he tries hard. So what? I'd try hard given the chance - doesn't make me any good though.

The whole 'I'd try hard if i was given the opportunity' argument is over used i think, its a completely diferent level for a professional to be seen as a 'hard worker'. But i dont agree thats all he's got to his game, i admit that he hasnt been fantastic this season, but noone has this season in my opinion (with the exception of McAuley and Delaney possibly), he's a top player at this level and all im saying is that people seem to froget just how good he was for us

I think its this kind of player we need to keep hold of and build the team around

'froget' - Irr Verb: to temporarily lose the ability to remember a persons previous actions

surely that's 'forget.' this 'froget' which you speak of is something else entirely...

Baggins

I'm with you on this one, mate.

Agreed. All I can see is that he stopped Edwards from having a good run in his favourite position. Cumbersome, slow, prone to missing easy chances. Wouldn't be missed.

But surely him keeping Edwards out of his favourite position means that he's doing something right, he's our top scorer and has played almost 90% of the time at right midfield. Ok he's not going to beat the opposition left back with pace but he brings a lot more to the team than that

Would definitely be missed

Seriously then who has had a good season and deserves to stay ? Walters may not have performed to the level we expect but has anyone else week in put in a performance that makes you go well he is worth his place.
Short memories, remind me who started the season as skipper and what happened there ?
I agree we have too many similar type players (grafters and work horses) but you need a few in the team, and as jas pointed out he was rated £3.5m not too long ago and people where praising him on here, injuries and poor team form have by everyone has contributed to a poor season by all, I suppose people want him to be banging in 30 a season and coming up with 20 assists before they are happy.
If he goes we lose a good player I wouldn't be surprised if a northern club (Stoke, Burnley,Wigan) get him off us on the cheap, however its a good job Roy is in charge as he obviously lieks him and woont letthat happen, some on here woudl probably let him go for free !

I think a lot of Walters poor firm this season is down to his keane has handled him. There was lots of chopping and changing of position - right wing, up front alone, up front with a variety of partners, even left wing, maybe 4 or 5 in midfield. Although these constant changes have probably affected most of the squad.
Plus Walters puts in SO much effort every game for the full 90 minutes and never got rested. If ever there was a player who needed to be 'rotated' out of the team for a few games, it was him. But keane has pushed him to his physical limits.

Didnt Steve Froggatt used to play for Villa?

stinkiusminkius, he is the captain, obviously if he was knackered, he would be rested, he always puts in a lot of effort, and doesn't really show any signs of tiredness in the games. Whats the point in having a captain who is gonna be rested every other game?

He is a poor player now, sure he runs around chasing the ball down, but he has no real position. Can't player striker, hasn't quite got the abilities for it, can't play wide as he hasn't got the pace and doesn't understand where wide is. Wouldn't mind him moving on and find a better wide man

walters out? i think not. get a grip

Agreed , he has not had the best of seasons along with so many others and has also missed lots of chances, again like so many others. There are a lot more players that need to be replaced before you get to Jonny Walters and if he was playing for another side we would be saying that he is the sort of player we need to be signing.

As for keeping Edwards out of the side, did Edwards not say the other week that he had been too ' relaxed' this season. One thing Walters can never be accused of.

I cant believe some people are saying we should get rid of Walters, ok like most players he's had an indifferent season, but as brogansnose has pointed out, there must be 10 or 11 players that need getting shot of before Walters is considered!! I think with a better quality strikeforce Walters will shine again, he's had to shoulder the burden of goalscoring practically on his own, as well as captaining the team!!

amen to that! the famous fickleness of football fans strikes again! there's only one jonny walters!

Brilliant player until he got that niggling injury which he blamed for his dip in form. He has not recaptured the pace that he did have in his first full season for the club
