Wickham Joins Up With England Friday, 14th May 2010 09:00 Striker Connor Wickham has joined up with the England squad ahead of the European U17 Championships in Liechtenstein next week. The frontman, who is understood to be the subject of a £5 million bid from Spurs, has previously scored five goals in eight games at U17 level. Wickham told the club site that he likes life away with the national squad: "I've been involved with England for two years and I really enjoy being away with the lads. "We all get on well and we're looking forward to the finals. We face some hard games in our group and there are some good sides left in the competition, but we're confident we can do well." England start their group matches with a game against the Czech Republic on Tuesday 18th May, then take on Greece three days later and finally Turkey on 24th May. The two top teams in the group go through to the semi-finals where they will face France, Spain, Portugal or Switzerland. The final will be played on Sunday 30th May. Eurosport are screening some of the tournament live. Town have four other players involved with international squads in the coming weeks, keeper Brian Murphy is off to a Republic of Ireland training camp which starts on Sunday, while Jaime Peters and Gareth McAuley will be in friendly action with Canada and Northern Ireland respectively. Tommy Smith is set to join up with the New Zealand squad ahead of the World Cup next week.
