QPR Make Walters Bid Claim
QPR Make Walters Bid Claim
Monday, 19th Jul 2010 23:25

Town are reported to have turned down a £2.5 million offer for Jon Walters from fellow Championship side QPR. Walters missed the weekend trip to PSV and last Tuesday’s club barbecue at Glemham Hall with a virus.

The Blues skipper was linked with a move to Stoke City in May, the Potters having been mentioned in connection with the 26-year-old back in 2008.

In June, manager Roy Keane revealed that the Blues had received offers for some of what he considered the club's "most important players”, who were likely to have been Walters and star youngster Connor Wickham.

If true then I truly despair at the people running our club. Walters is a very average player ( and thats being kind ) and not worth half that sum. Shocking decision.

Yeah lets sell up the whole lot and put in all the youngsters we have left !!!

Ipswich Town FC need to get their grip of this pre-season and apart from those 8 on the list put a £10 million transfer fee on all the other players !!!

If we had a few more players as good as or better than Walters, then 2.5m would be goood money. However we do not, so selling him would leave the squad too thin and there is no guarantee the 2.5 mill will provide equal replacement. So for now, no sale.

Walters is one of the best players at our club, both in terms of skill and attitude. There's no way we'd let him go to one of our Championship rivals.

PS Harry Palmer, there's no such thing as very average.

i dont care how much money they offer, selling walters is unthinkable. he is our captain, arguably our best and most important player. the fact that he was played all game, every game last season and still scored 8 goals, in a team that collectively was piss poor illurstates how valuable he is. he is a superb professional, someone that gives his all and anyone that thinks he should be sold is a fool. you wont get anywhere by selling your best players and walters is most definitely one of ours.

do one rangers, you piss-hooped, wideboy greddy scumbag club who've won nothing in your miserable history.

no sale. no way

With any other manager I would say sell, Walters is not worth half that, but the fact is I can't trust keane to do anything decent with 2.5M or the wages that would be freed up.

Walters was very poor last season by his own previous high standards, think 2.5 mil is quite generous.

He's over the hill so cash in while we can.

Walters is a very important player for us and if he recaptures the form of a couple of seasons ago then he can make a huge difference. To sell him would be a disgrace now and both Mrs Bracknell_blue and I would be very p****d off!

sell? and replace with who, he's not a fringe player, However if it means we keep Conner and get Chopra then yes sell.

Zzzz some people on here should really take an interest in ballet or netball as they clearly kno jack sh1te about football! We need to keep any player who is rated at that figure as we clearly do not have the pulling power to get anyone half decent in, just hope consistency can be the key this year!

We all know Walters has had an average couple of seasons and personally I think 2.5 million would be a decent offer to sell but you never sell your captain who is still a decent player at Championship Level without an equal replacement done and dusted. No replacement for less money, no sale, simple.

suffolksam - nice Josephine Baker pic...

QPR - no thanks. We need to keep this guy who leads from the front - even if he didn't quite hit the heights last year. I think everyone likes this type of player - he puts it in and shows a bit of heart. Carry on Jon.

jim brought walters in as a striker, he was chester city's striker.
but i think we all know he is far more affective on the right of midfield, last season was not his best season imo due to being played up front.
so if we get a striker in to partner wickham, we will get the best from walters

Although by no means a fan of Jon Walters, I have to agree that we can not afford to simply off-load players in pre-season - we need to BUY decent players as well. I am certainly not blaming Roy for this, as the board need to step up to the plate.

That said, Walters is a very average player and 2.5M seems way over-priced. If we had sufficient players to cover then I would certainly sell, but until that time.

Definitely the right decision not to sell, Walters is an important player for us and we are not overstocked on the right.

Next important decision for Keane to make is that he is NOT a striker.

I would have to say if that report is true then I would sell him for that. I have a lot of time for him and I like his attitude etc, but £2.5m is more than he is worth.
