Bristol City Make McAuley Enquiry?
Bristol City Make McAuley Enquiry?
Monday, 2nd Aug 2010 17:25

Bristol City are reported to have made an enquiry regarding Town central defender Gareth McAuley. The Robins were first linked with a move for the Northern Irishman last week.

McAuley was previously said to be an alternative signing if Steve Coppell failed to land QPR’s Damion Stewart, however, the Jamaican international has completed a move to Ashton Gate and McAuley is still claimed to be a target of the club who recruited England keeper David James last week.

Town would almost certainly resist offers for McAuley, a key man in their defence, particularly with Damien Delaney out of action for three months having suffered a serious thigh injury and with Alex Bruce having moved to Leeds last week.

McAuley was linked with a move away from Portman Road last summer, having lost the captaincy, but subsequently committed himself to the club.

The former Leicester and Lincoln man is contracted to Town until June 2011.

Most the comments on here is as usual tedious at best. McA is not going anywhere unless RK gets another CB in and Bristol are prepared to pay loads for him. So why worry? An inquiry about a player means nothing we get loads. As for those of you on the wind up, pretty much poor and immature, suggest if you can't do better than just don't bother.

It would be a bad move for us if this were to happen. He played so much better after being dropped last season and linked well with Delaney. Leave him alone Bristol!

The Pro-Keane/Anti-Keane polarisation on here is getting very boring and the daily diatribes justifying their positions in this argument is becoming destructive. Many of these contain inaccuracies at best, deliberate misinformation at worst, often fuelling increasingly aggressive responses. Whether or not RK is personally responsible for all the ills of ITFC in particular and football in general is not going to be resolved on message boards such as this but the petty squabbling that we read on pretty much every news item demeans us all as ITFC supporters.

By all means lets present our individual thoughts and opinions. Let's engage in banter even provocatively at times. But most of all lets debate the issues fully but with sensitivity. I'm sure that many of you do not want to continue trawling through the juvenile Keano posturing to find the many sensible posts on here.

Thank you. I hope you will understand my point of view here.

McAuley should be re-instated as captain, yes he had a poor start last season but nearly always starts that way (Why I don't know) Keane tried his usual bully boy tactics and McAuley improved, but probably would have anyway. He is the kingpin in our defence and Bristol City should be told to go forth! But where oh where is our new striker/s........ tumbleweed as usual Keaneo!!!

Blue01473: Good post and I agree wholeheartidly, interesting that the following post doesn't take note.

Oh and as I've said, RK will not let McAuley go unless its a silly, silly offer... and that's not likely to happen.

i expect if he is sold it will be the end for rk as he will start the season with a) no defence or b) have to buy a new one in and bed them in to his ''system'' and then it will be a very bad run of results which will surely shorten his 11 months left on his contract.
how silly can he be?
wait and see.

The McCauley / Delaney partnership is the best in this division, no way is it going to be split up. If either is injured then Eastman / Smith will replace them for their development. No point in signing more standby players to spunk wages on. Calm down everyone.

some of you make me laugh, its a STORY no truth in it untill our club agrees a fee. papers need to fill space and will jump on anything to make a story. personally i dont thinkthey even enquired about him and even if they did keane wont sell unless its for really crazy money.

haha, bless their little cottons. I assume their enquiry was of the nature of one Oliver Twist requesting supplementary sustenance from Mr Bumble?

Maybe when we get promoted, Bristol. Make a new enquiry then. There might be some crumbs you can have.
