Celtic Defender to Sign On Loan
Celtic Defender to Sign On Loan

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has revealed that defender Darren O’Dea is set to join the Blues on loan. Town manager Roy Keane said on Thursday that he was looking to add a young loan defender to his squad.

Lennon says O’Dea, primarily a left-sided centre-half but who can also operate at left-back, wants to play first team football more regularly: "He doesn't want to be a squad player, he wants to play and I can't guarantee him that.

"Ipswich have made an enquiry to take him on loan, so there is a possibility he will be down there on Monday.

"Ipswich have given him the opportunity to go and play and I think it will be good for him to get some games under his belt because we're bringing in other people allied to the ones we've got."

Former Irish U21 international O’Dea, 23, was previously linked with the Blues in 2008 during Jim Magilton’s time as manager, although the reports were dismissed by the Northern Irishman.

The 6ft 1in tall Dubliner made eight appearances while on loan at Reading last season.

O'Dea, O'Dea, O'Dea. What is this world coming to? Can only think that means Kennedy is out for longer than first though. But for goodness sake, when are we gonna sign a PROPER right back with a bit of height?

I think this could be a move in which we will see o'dea play at left back which once Kennedy is fully fit will release O'Connor to use his attacking flair further up the field.

Scunny Blue? so if O'dea is playing at left back where is Kennedy going to play if fully fit? or do you mean o'dea as cover for Kennedy and OConnor to be left mid in which case O'dea is not going to get the promised first team football? Right back would be better or cover for McCualy as in right footed centre back.

Think that we need a proper right back. The cross that Peters attempted to control but ended up putting out for a corner would have been shepherded out for a goal kick by an experienced right back. The corner resulted in Burnley's equaliser!
Middlesbourough's goal was practically gifted due to Peters being out of position.
Don't get me wrong, Peters has given 100% wherever he has been asked to play, but with Walters out and Leadbitter injured I think the obvious choise may be to move Peters to right midfield as he seems to like getting forward and taking players on!

Perhaps Keane is considering three centre backs? but this is a good signing, by all accounts he is quite a good utility player and can offer competition in a few positions. We have many injuries and we need more signings quickly
