Two More Strikers Set to Move On?
Two More Strikers Set to Move On?
Wednesday, 18th Aug 2010 16:28

Two more Town strikers could be on their way out of Portman Road with Jon Stead understood to be continuing talks with Bristol City and Pablo Couñago a loan target of Crystal Palace. Jon Walters finally completed his move to Stoke this afternoon.

As reported earlier in the week, Bristol City have renewed their interest in Stead, despite talks with the Blues frontman previously breaking down. Stead is also holding talks with a number of other clubs, a move to Blackpool having also having fallen down after the former England U21 was unable to agree personal terms.

Crystal Palace were previously linked with a move for Couñago earlier in the month and a loan deal may suit all parties with the Eagles unlikely to be in a position to pay a fee or match the 31-year-old Spaniard’s current wages. Town would probably continue to pay part of the striker’s wages if he joins his former boss George Burley at Selhurst Park.

Couñago, who was spotted close to Town’s Playford Road training ground this afternoon, is currently out of favour at Portman Road having fallen out with boss Roy Keane after the recent friendly against a Spurs XI.

Over the weekend Town boss Roy Keane said he was hopeful of signing Wigan frontman Jason Scotland, although reports from Lancashire claim that move could be on hold until the Latics bring in a new striker.

Town may also seek to renew their interest in Cardiff’s Michael Chopra, widely understood to be Roy Keane’s top target this summer, now that Walters has gone and with the Bluebirds adding Craig Bellamy to their ranks.

Seriously, we can lose Pablo but I really would rather keep Steady.

If Pablo goes to Palace, please Keano, stipulate that he can't play against us as part of the deal!!

On a rough calculation taking in to account the players gone and those that have come in, with wages and transfer fees the club has saved or made around 5 million so far, with Stead and Counago gone must be near the 6 Million mark,
That will leave us with Priskin and Wickham (Who Keane has said cant be expected to play the whole season) and Murray (More so than Wickham) as our only strikers.
Must be at least 2 strikers on the way surely Scotland seems the most likely and are we going in with a double bid for Chopra and McCormack, That will give us 4 strikers and McCorrmack is better than Walters so a new midfielder come striker

There's no way they'll let Steady go unless they've got a guaranteed replacement, and probably two. I reckon Stead and pablo are both on good wages so nice to see them moved on and the budget freed up a bit more.

2 new strikers and a fit Wickham to choose from, with backup from Murray and Priskin.... sound ok?

with new wide midfielder to replace Walters and Townsend on the left. Thats sounding more promising....?

Maybe keane himself is the ace up his sleeve...

Steady should stay, as back up if nothing else.
Pablo, one of my personal favourites, but obviously won't play for us ever again so yeah he should go.
As for Stoke paying £3m for Walters - That's an unbelievably good price - Walters has been average at best for the last 2 seasons.
Now for Chops and/or Scotland . . . . . . .

Selling both strikers, we would only have Priskin and Murray, Keano must have a trick up his sleeve.

I'm still wondering of there may be a cheeky little Chopra/Whittingham double bid ....

Or we could get Jason SCOTLAND, Stephen IRELAND, find a couple of geezers called ENGLAND and WALES and we're sorted!

Don't mind Pablo going but as long as no striker signs for us Steady needs to stay.

We are in serious trouble if no strikers are about to sign !!!! Wigan could refuse to let Scotland go if they cannot get an adequate replacement !!! RK SC & ME must get the striker situation sorted very soon or we will have nothing to play for again .

Only worry is the amount of injuyies we have and another gone with possible 2 more on the way. only 2 signed and 2 loan players who are as young as the lads we are throwing in. Keane must have players about to sign!!!!! No !!!!!!

Steady should stay only if we dont get 2 x new strikers. I'd rather have 2 new and lose Steady.

But, of all the 'old' strikers, Steady is the one I'd rather keep, above Priskin too.

As for JW price of £2.75m - thats just snooker loopy

Have faith in Clegg/Keane - they wont let more strikers go unless they have others already signed.

I think we have some big news coming over next 48 hours folks. Hang on to your seat, this could get exciting !!!!!!

getting warm feeling for this season.

COYB !!!!!

We must have a blinding striker or two up our sleeve to off-load the amount of players we have so far! Otherwise we will have to enter the team into a bleedin' 5 a-side league! ha ha!
Clegg done good business with Walters - But now he has to prove the doubters wrong (including me) and sign a player (or two) that is going to tbe taking us places!
COYB's!!!!

if i was a crystal palace fan, i would get a bit p*ssed off at how burley is signing ipswich rejects! i really like stead as a player, and if it wasnt for his high wages i would want him to stay. But now the cash is coming in, maybe its time to refresh our strike force completely.

"Couñago, who was spotted close to Town's Playford Road training ground this afternoon" - is there a tesco nearby? He was probably stocking up on afternoon buscuits! A big thanks to George for taking him off our....I mean for giving him the opportunity to play 1st team football again.

Seriously I hope we don't sell Stead at least until we have one new striker on board.

_Mhs - but at least burley is signing good rejects. In fact rejects is the wrong word. He's bought some quality.

stinkiusminkius - i was a bit unfair calling them rejects i suppose, especially with ambrose and garvan amongst them.

My God , there had better be a bloody good striker(s) on his way to Town.

We now have only Priskin and Wickham (injured) left to pick from , assuming Stead is on his way out ...and also Pablo who will never play for RK again either !!

You all live in a dream world.
First stead and pabs are to good for keane and
second no one of any quality is coming here.
Evans is clawing his money back, keane will be hung out to dry with what he has left. Getting depresing.
