Pablo Set to Join Palace Today
Pablo Set to Join Palace Today
Friday, 20th Aug 2010 10:08

Town boss Roy Keane has confirmed that striker Pablo Couñago is expected to join Crystal Palace on a season-long loan today. The 31-year-old won’t be able to play in Saturday’s game between the two sides at Selhurst Park.

Keane said: “They’ve been in talks and I would expect some news on Pablo today. I think he’ll probably sign for them on a season-long loan. Pablo only has a year left on his contract anyway. I’d expect that deal to go through today.”

The Blues boss says there will be no new additions before the weekend and admits that he’s becoming increasingly frustrated: “I’ve been speaking to players for the last couple of months. I spoke to two players over the summer who wanted to come to the club, but the deals weren’t done.

“It’s all very well me speaking to these players, it’s not up to me to get the deals done. It’s up to the chief executive and the owner. We’re doing a lot of talking. There are loads of talks. I’m sick of talking, believe it or not!”

“It’s been frustrating this week. Last week you asked me the question and I was quite relaxed, but this week we’re disappointed, we picked up one or two injuries and we might have won the game last weekend had we had more options and more players available.”

Keane says he is continuing to look for several new signings: “I think we need three or four new players, not just one. We need cover.”

A fee for Wigan striker Jason Scotland was agreed more than a week ago, but that deal is understood to be on hold while the Latics find a replacement.

Keane says midfielder Grant Leadbitter will not be fit enough to face Palace after suffering an ankle problem against Burnley, but that wideman Carlos Edwards could be back from his groin injury.

Less than subtle dig at ME & SC there!

A frustrated RK then - doesn't bode well.

And to be fair - he has kept to his side of the bargain and firmly blames SC and ME for the lack of new additions!

Another Blackpool situation brewing!

Pab going is good news.

RK frustrated at the board is not good, and not good he is saying so, unless he has permmision to make this comment.

I think Evans & Clegg are starting to look like a posh and wealthy version of the chuckle brothers....... Come on they have to sign the players we need! We are surely on the cusp of a transitional period at the club that will make us realise our dream! Keano looks like he is definately doing a decent job down there and he needs the support and assistance from these two! Keano! Keano!

Good luck Pablo. Hopefully you can't play against us.

Hopefully there will be some new signings next week. As its getting annoying now.
I hope Wigian find a replacement soon so the Scotland deal can continue.

He's fcukin frustrated! And we're not then! We've got rid of so many players, deadwood or not, and not replaced them. I'm sorry but before I got rid of someone I'd make sure that a replacement was there ala Wigan with Scotland!

Good move for all parties. Thanks for the good times Pablo.

Things should pick up on the transfer front over the next week or so with the transfer window coming to a close and premiership teams finalising the 25 man squads.

I'm not sure the criticism of ME and SC is entirely fair. They backed RK very strongly last year, and not all of the signings have proved very effective (so far anyway). They are clearly not willing to break the club's wage structure, which again seems reasonable for a club of this size and situation, and is highly sensible given the criticism of the wages paid to players like Lee Martin, Pablo, etc. We don't know for certain who RK's targets were and what sort of financial package that would have been required to sign them, so it isn't fair to judge SC and ME on them not happening.

There still aren't that many transfers happening at the minute, but things will pick up over the next week or so before the window closes and then again when the loan window opens and players will know whether they are in the 25 man squads etc. Ignore what Cardiff are doing. Agreeing to pay Bellamy £2.5m in wages when they are avoiding paying other debts (and near bankrupt?) is at best disgraceful and quite possibly illegal depending on their true financial state. That will all end in tears.

Meanwhile Hull sell Daniel Cousin in mid-week and sign his replacement Jay Simpson a day later - at least some clubs seem to know how to tie up transfer deals with minimum fuss.

Come on Clegg, Get your finger out of your backside!!
What is this blokes problem for gods sake??
Keane has said who he would like and has spoken to the players, Offer the going rate, Get the player and his agent togehter, offer a decent wage & contract and the bloke will sign!!!
Keane is doing his job and so is ME. It's Clegg that is holding everything up.
How come our players going out soon get sorted, Walters, Pabs, Garvan, Lisbie yet when we want a player it goes tits up?
I can see Keane walking if this clown doesnt get a shift on!!!

So how long is it before steads gone too? Leaving us with what fit strikers, Priskin, can peters play up front too? Oh I forgot we don't have another right back. Unreal

Mungo makes a lot of extremely important points.ME hasn't amased a small fortune without playing it shrewdly at all times and he won't stop doing so just because he has bought our club.

I would add to this that we have witnessed in the first three games thus far , a very hungry element of young players who haven't at all disgraced themselves.

Keane is spot on with his comments I think everyone is getting frustrated. I don't CLEGG AND EVANS are showing any ambition at the moment. Just look at Hull a cash strapped club and they Sign Simpson from Arsenal?

Conditions being created for Keane to walk with the blame squarely placed on Compo and ME.

What makes Clegg qualified to negotiate with players and their agents anyway? This is the most important part of his job, his second most important part is PR, and he seems to be crap at that too.

I would tell Wigan, complete the deal or its off. No waiting around. Its not like they were planning to play Scotland anyway.

Counago hasnt been in the team this season anyway so it is no big loss and it is a bit more off the wages and he will be off it completly come the end of the season.

As for new signings, like everyone else I am dis-spirited at the moment but there is still plenty of time to get new players in, I just hand on heart hope that we do NOT panic buy towards the end. I have thought all along that we would wait till the end of the transfer window to see who was available and grab ourselves a bargain, it is a dangerous game as the quality players may have already been snapped up or players might not want to sign for us.

However I still hope, I think next week will be a busy week for us and our patience will be rewarded-hopefully with a couple of new strikers, maybe a winger and a midfielder. I would also add a right back in there as well even if it is just back up to Peters.

Then once we have Wickham, Delaney, Civelli, Leadbitter etc all back we will have a good foundation to push on. COYB

Anyone seen this comment from Keane about Chopra

"If someone gives them their valuation, then Chopra might go, but Ipswich wouldn't meet their valuation at the moment."

Blimey, how much do Cardiff want for him!
