Keane: We'll Miss Andros
Keane: We'll Miss Andros
Tuesday, 24th Aug 2010 09:27

Boss Roy Keane has confirmed that the Blues will not be appealing against midfielder Andros Townsend’s red card at Crystal Palace on Saturday. The Town manager says his side will miss the loanee from Spurs during his three-game ban.

Keane admits the second half challenge on Julian Speroni was dangerous, if not malicious: “He was high. We appealed the situation with Steady and got the extra game. We’ll respect the official’s decision this time and having watched it again he was high.

“It was a naïve tackle, it wasn’t nasty or anything like that. He’s a left-sided midfielder and these type of boys don’t really know how to hurt people.

“So, we won’t be appealing and we’ll suffer because he’s doing really well for us. He’s settled into the club very, very well and also Steady’s gone.

“We’re under pressure in terms of numbers,” Keane added, “but if we keep showing the spirit and the energy that we did on Saturday we’ll keep going and keep battling away.

“And we’re playing some not bad stuff either. Every team we play every manager thinks they should be beating us, but we’re obviously watching different games.”

Meanwhile, former Town target Ross McCormack is set to hold talks with Leeds United regarding a move from Cardiff to Elland Road, while ex-Blue Alan Lee is on the verge of a switch from Crystal Palace to Huddersfield for £500,000.

Elsewhere, Blues owner Marcus Evans is apparently pictured in one of this morning’s national newspapers watching Saturday’s game at Selhurst Park. Since taking over Town at the end of 2007 Evans has always been careful to protect his privacy and is not believed to be have been caught on camera before.

Did deserve a red card in all fairness, his studs went into the keepers chest almost. Looks good out wide but not sure if he does enough tracking back to help the defence.

Poor tackle, deserved to go.

Watching Townsend for the first time on Saturday it appears that he is the one player in the side that is given freedom. Good to see.

Shame to loose him to a ban so early, but looks to be a decent addition to the squad - He'll learn and move on I hope. Stupid Tackle.

Why is no-one else suprised about this picture?! It looks suspicously like ME but who is he sitting with?

Townsend looks like a decent signing by Roy. However, have to agree it was a dangerous challenge, although as always the Palace players didn't help the situation. That said, no complaints at the red card.

I can't believe we are not in for McCormack - £500K?!

jas0999 i believe the £500k is for alan lee, not for mccormack, no fee is mentioned about him....although i cannot believe it would be much different

Shame for Townsend, still at least one of the games he misses is just a cup game.

And i assume we will get some money due to lee moving ? Must be some kind of sell on fee?

Yes, that is Marcus with the blonde hair (as Breedon Blue says, the one Pablo is giving daggers to). At PR his box is behind where the players sit in the directors box and he generally sits with a rather rotund bloke, appearing only as the whistle blows on kick off and disappearing very quickly into his box at HT/FT. I sit relatively close and also know someone on the staff (doesn't everyone?!) who told me what he looks like.

squiz. how can there b a sell on fee 4 lee? he going 4 less than we sold him 4, thus no profit 4 palace, no sell-on 4 us.

Ah, my mistake! Apologies!! Still, can't see Leeds being able to afford a large transfer fee?

If it is true that McCormack wasted his journey when he came to Portman Road and his comments from his agent were true he will not be coming to ITFC. I get the impression McCormack is not the sort of character Keano likes so we can say goodbye to that one. I still say go for Fryatt but will probably be too much dosh.
The guy in the picture certainly looks like the person who arrived at Selhurst Park on Saturday with Simon Clegg.

Townsend does look like a good player just needs to improve his tackelling. It looked bad and it was high up.

And I take it M.E is the one without glasses. Did you notice the man sitting on the left of Edgar Davids looking at M.E?

If this is the notoriously publicity-shy Evans, why on earth would he sit in front of Edgar Davids on the day he was unveiled for Palace with all the media attention that would attract?

Something doesn't add up. Even if this chap arrived with Clegg at Palace it means nothing. He could be Clegg's brother-in-law for all we know.

robdaful - I did notice the man shooting daggers at ME, and I know his name. Thankfully for ME they all missed! :)

We will miss him, he provides us with pace and width on the left, something we have missed for quite a while.

Although he did deserve the red card, it was very recklass.
