Keane Hoping for Premier Loan
Keane Hoping for Premier Loan
Thursday, 9th Sep 2010 14:05

Boss Roy Keane says he hopes to add a loan signing to his squad next week. The Blues manager says Town are currently in talks with a Premier League club regarding the proposed signing.

Keane said: “I think there’s a good chance we might add one player next week. We’re in discussions with a club and we’re hopeful, but we’ll see.

“Like a lot of Championship clubs, we’ll be looking at Premiership clubs, at players who might not be getting games and might fancy coming to the Championship, particularly the younger players.

“We were very lucky last year. We had some very good players, people like Jack Colback, who was outstanding for us, and you’re always on the lookout.

“We’re in discussion with a club and it’s all fairly positive at the moment and maybe something will happen next week, but we’ll just wait and see.”

Sunderland’s Colback has been linked with a return to Portman Road after his excellent 2009/10 with the Blues and would provide much-needed cover in midfield, while West Brom striker Luke Moore has also been mentioned in connection with the Blues.

Keane says Darren O’Dea is a doubt with the knee injury he suffered while away with the Republic of Ireland, while Shane O’Connor will be out for around three weeks after tearing a hamstring while with the Irish U21s.

Tamás Priskin, Márton Fülöp, Gareth McAuley and Conor Hourihane returned from international duty without injury, while Jaime Peters is due to back from Canada this afternoon but is also understood to be fit.

Connor Wickham, Mark Kennedy, Damien Delaney and Luciano Civelli are not yet ready to make their first team returns.

See this is where 'reducing the wage bill' has come back to bite us in the bum. I knew it. We now need too many players as cover and we know were not going to get them x

Hi ChambersM - another 'optimistic' post! Get a life. We are doing well with a small squad, still have more than enough players to continue the winning run. Better to have a small squad of committed players, than as last year, a large squad containing a large number of non-committed 'stars'. You can only have 11 players on the field at any one time, I think we have enough to fulfil that requirement.

This could be the news that we have all hoped for. There are a lot of very good players that have failed to make the 25 player cap. COYB!

Most probably a player who isn't in their 25 player squad i'd say, so that would rule out Colback. Probably a young central midfielder to help out Hyam?

The 25 man rule is a joke. For example, which players have been left out of the Man City 25?? None I believe. Kingkeano - correct me if I am wrong but I cannot name more than 3 players who have not made their respective lists. That means that clubs like us will remain with our noses pressed against the sweet shop window while the big boys feast inside.

Keano should have seen this coming and made an attempt to attract some decent players to this club and our numbers are woefully short. Injuries and suspecsions will take their toll long before January and Civelli's knee is looking like Haagland's according to rumor so he will be paid off.

Over to our nutjob manager...........

@711 Grow up, and when you actually know something about any type of management then say something. Keane had to sell, what don't you understand about that? Do I really have to spell it out for you? ME is not going to pay top wages for players who are happy sitting on the bench. And who can blame him? And look at the result of getting rid of these players who didn't want us to get promoted as they knew they would not be needed as they weren't good enough...we now have a team biting at the bit that want to win games. That is down to Keane whether you want to believe it or not.

One other thing we have about the same size squad now as we did under the late great Sir Bobby Robson in 1981. We won the EUFA Cup and should have won the FA Cup and League.

Stop moaning...Keane is a winner and he is making this team into a winning team with the right mentality. And all you can do is moan about him?

The being irish and sunderland comments are getting really boring now,who cares as long as they play the best for our beloved blues.

Wickedblue - you are as boring and predictable as ChambersM is albeit on different ends of the spectrum. Wickedblue - Keane is your poster boy "name" hero and can do no wrong although he has done little right in his managerial career. ChambersM is a Keane hater who will never do anything right. You are both boring and probably Budgies as well. Spare us both of your crap !!!!

Probably a goalkeeper, we could do with one of those.

Zippy, Man City left Craig Bellamy out of their 25 and he is now at Cardiff, so that's at least one you berk!

if we signed andy reid from sunderland would anyone see it as a bad signing? after all, he is irish and ex sunderland. to me, this seems like a non-issue, a good player is a good player so where he comes from and who he has played for should be of no importance.

understand that some on here dont like keane and some really want to see him do well.

I want him to do well because it will mean ipswich will do well.

we all know what has gone on this transfer window, we tried to sign players but couldnt get the deals done. we needed to sell and have for the most part shipped out the players keane didnt want. we have started the season well, sit third in the league and the team is already playing far better then they did throughout the whole of last season. we also have some talented youngsters coming through who are getting in the first team squad and progressing and getting better all the time.

we have a fairly small squad, last years was too big. we have also been quite unlucky with injuries but we will soon be getting some important players back into the mix.

keane has not achieved a great deal in his timein football as a manager but he did do well at sunderland, getting them promoted and keeping them in the premiership.

i think this is a fair representation of the facts, so far we are doing well and have reason to be optimistic but should not get carried away.

now we are being linked with the addition of a loan player who has been playing in the premier league, sounds good? no? if it was colback then that would be fantastic, if its not then hopefully it will be someone similar (young, exciting etc) if not, someone with bags of experience! we may even have a new striker on the books, again, sounds like a good thing, no?

not alot to moan about at the moment really....but nothing to get too carried away with....just yet!

here's hoping for more great performances and a really good season - coyb!

Great Shout that Marcusevans, i'd be happy if he came here. To be honest we need him and Jack on season long loans and then our squad will be nearing completion.

I would be happy with just Jack Colback on loan. We have a number of players coming back and hopefully some of them can really cement their places in the first team (Civelli etc)

Saw the "man in the pub" joke about Michael Owen- but strangely thats the 2nd time I have heard his name mentioned in connection with us in the last 2 days. Sure that won't happen though!

robdaful added 11:11 - Sep 10
It is most likely Colback like many have said.
Colback should be able to play holding midfielder and as we have seen he can fill in at left back when needed. Killing tto problams at once.

There are a lot of good players that will not make the 25 players limit. C'mon Keano! COYB!
