A Song for Ipswich
A Song for Ipswich

Tom Hark by the Piranhas and The Fratellis’ Chelsea Dagger have both been used as Town’s goal celebration music in recent seasons but now the search is on for a local artist or band to create a new piece of music to accompany the inevitable post-goal jumping around and screaming.

With music copyright laws changing, clubs are facing increased demands for fees and royalties, therefore Town and a number of other clubs are looking to provide their own music for goal celebrations.

This is an opportunity to not only give the Blues fans a new piece of celebration goal music, but also give a budding or established artist or band a great chance to gain media attention and put themselves on the musical map locally.

Those interested in providing material, which should consist of a piece of music about 30-45 seconds long, should send it to Barry Calver, who is on the Supporters' Club's media committee, at the address below before January 31st 2011.

After this cut-off date, depending on the number received, the entries will be played at half-time in two or three home games later in the season to gain supporters’ general opinion.

Town will then call on fans to make the final decision by casting their votes via the matchday programme and various websites.

All entries to be sent on a CD to:

Who does this benefit? Why do we need music constantly played at PR?

1) its someones job to chose celebration music, are you kidding, theres a cost reduction right there

2) why? why the hell is music required to blast out and drown out the one time we do actually manage to create noise and atmosphere, ruins the game.. dont need it, get rid of it and Barry Calver

As far as I'm concerned it would improve the atmosphere at PR no end if the goal music was scrapped. That way we could hear the crowd celebrating, start some chants, sing some songs etc. without having to stop and wait for the music to end. The pointless jingle kills the crowd.

Having said that, we really do need a new sing-along before kick off to get the crowd involved. The cliche Carmina Burana when the teams come out is doom-laden and inappropriate, and the 30 seconds of Singing The Blues is more or less ignored these days by most of the crowd. At Forest for example they have Mull of Kintyre as the teams come out, and the whole stadium stands and joins in-fantastic. It also shows that the music doesn't have to be specifically related to ITFC-that song just happened to be around when they were doing well, and has stuck, although having something written by one of us would be nice.

I'd favor goal music being scrapped, way to American and is now same old same old. Was far better in the old days when people just cheered. I actually think the mucic stops people cheering as it gets them clapping in time to the rythem rather than letting them carry on cheering... Perhaps people should email/write in to this Barry chap and ask for it to go to a vote via the match day programme or official website before they go looking for something 'new'. I have a feeling they'd be surprised at how many people would want the music stopped.

and BloooooooCD - I just worked out what FORK stands for - LOL, very good!

Better Than This? (should be)
Call Me What You Like? (Roy's favourite)
Leaving So Soon? (hopefully)
Spiralling? (definately)
Time To Go? (yes)
We Might As Well Be Strangers? (indeed)

I agree with the we don't need a song thoughts but then football is commercial these days and anything commercial has to blend in with everything else. In this instance its other football clubs. Cant go against the grain and be different, what would the Jones' think?!

Maybe I'm just old school but I turn up wanting to watch a game of football, I don't need a tannoy system telling me what to sing and when.

How about sending them a cd of cheering crowds, a few appropriate player chants, ooohs and aahs etc etc..... they could then play it through the PA system throughout the match..... !!! There is too much negativity at PR now, not helped by RKs lack of all things football manager related. I had backed RK but it is becoming a joke what he is doing to my beloved ITFC!!! :(

How about giving a microphone to someone with team tactics blasting out on the PA system that the players can hear whilst on the pitch and look to for guidance??... Might give the players some direction rather than the moody mute that sits there scowling with legs and arms crossed! ha ha! FORK!
