Norris Confirms Contract Talks
Norris Confirms Contract Talks
Tuesday, 23rd Nov 2010 16:41

Skipper David Norris has revealed that his agent is in talks with Town regarding a new contract which he expects to sign. The 29-year-old is amongst 21 members of the Blues squad whose current terms are up at the end of the season.

Norris said: “The club are speaking at the moment to my agent. I tend to just leave it to them. I don’t get involved in it day-in, day-out. Hopefully, we can get something sorted soon.

“It’s good that the wheels are in motion and it should take care of itself. Obviously it’s the sooner, the better, for me. I want to get signed up and to try and carry on being successful here.

“I want to stay at Ipswich beyond the summer. I’m happy here and I’m settled here, and if I can get another deal then I’m sure I’ll be happy to sign it.”

Norris, who joined Town from Plymouth for £2 million in January 2008, is unlikely to be the only senior player whose representatives are in discussions with Town, chief executive Simon Clegg confirming that moves were being made earlier this month: “We’re starting that process but it’s very early days.

"I’m not going to name individuals but we’re aware of those that are out of contract, we’re aware of those we aspire to keep, but that is work in progress.

“Consistent with my usual approach, I’m not going to say anything until we’ve got to a point that I’m in a definitive position to say to you that player X is staying.”

Norris says the squad are determined to return to form when they travel to Norwich for the season's first East Anglian derby on Sunday: "It's a huge game, we know that. There is local pride at stake and we know the importance for the fans. We are desperate to win the game for them and send them home happy.

"I've played in a couple of derbies and they are great games to play in. The atmosphere is brilliant and they are intense affairs but they are only enjoyable if you win them."

You can tell how strong a club is by how many players that other clubs would want. We have one outfield player that could raise several millions and that is it. And it's not David Norris. How is it that Marcus Evans is our great saviour and investor when we haven't got one top quality player.

I\'m glad that this story came to light today following the story run today by the East Anglian Daily Times / Evening Star. More scare mongering and negativity aimed at causing additional unrest amongst Town supporters by the Norwich based Archant media.... Bunch of Norwich supporting pricks !

Hope he stays, yes not the most skilled but he gives 100% commitment and dedication to every game, 100% to the ball at all times and can at times pick out a fantastic pass. Be glad if he stays.

I find it difficult to understand the concept of the individual letting someone else work out the details of his future. I'd want to have some control even at an early stage. Then again I'm not a very rich footballer!!

Finally some good news this week. Not the most talented but calms the side down and an absolute crucial player for us to play well. Will be chuffed if he finishes his career here. Just find it weird that even this story can generate negative posts :S Ah well C'est a vie

We do need to secure the contracts of some of these players before they walk away for free. It is difficult with the manager's future being uncertain (to say the least!) though, as the players Keane would like to keep may not be the ones a new manager wants. Norris is a definite to sign up though, as we can't afford to let £2M players walk away for free (well, accept Lee Martin in 2.5 years time maybe!).

Norris and Leadbitter are not the central midfield pairing to take this club forward. Neither can make a killer pass nor take a free kick / corner, and Norris rarely comes out of a tackle without conceding a free kick in cynical fashion.
We desperately need a playmaker to play alongside one or the other.

21 players are out of contract at the end of the season, only around 5 need to be offered contracts and he is one of them.

Norris is prob my fav player but when he says 'I want to get signed up and to try and carry on being successful here' I'm assuming that was a joke?? Do you see my point?? He is a trier though if not the most skillful but then again no1 has flair, pace or skill in our team under Keane....just a thought can anyone think of the last time we scored 3 goals or more at home??? Sad isn't it:(

OK player for Championship level but lets be honest - he is not and never has been worth anywhere near the £2+ million we paid for him.

Plymouth did great business and Magilton squandered more of Evan's money on that deal!!

itfc-for-life - really? Livermore has been a waste of space. He might as well go back to Spurs for all the effort he puts in here...mind you, he;s not the only one who's a waste of space at the mo...

Which games have you watched Froudy, or which Livermore? From the games I've seen Livermore has chased down balls and spread the play.

Livermore has had good games and bad games, just like every other young player.

I like Norris..fully committed though could do with netting a few more goals.

Saying that, our midfield has been seriously lacking since the Magilton/Holland days...wish we had those two in their prime now.

Good with Norris but we really need to sign Mcually and Delaney soon because i can see a a premiership side coming in for them and maybe snatching them away from us. So get them signed Clegg!!!
