Norris Deal Close

Skipper David Norris says he is confident that negotiations regarding his new contract will be completed soon. The former Plymouth man’s representatives have been in talks with Town since late last month with the 29-year-old expecting to remain with the Blues.

Norris said: “Things are progressing fine. The club are in touch with my agent and I’m confident I will agree a new deal soon.

“It’s been in the back of mind and it would be nice to get it all cleared up. I came here three years ago to do a job and help get Ipswich promoted.

“There is no way that I want to leave a failure — I want to do what I was brought here to do for this great club.”

Norris is one of a number of senior players amongst the 21 out of contract at the end of the season and TWTD understands that central defender Gareth McAuley is also one of those to have been offered new terms.

Last week, chief executive Simon Clegg revealed that talks are ongoing with both senior players and youngsters, telling the press: “We know whose contracts are coming to an end and Roy, myself and the owner are agreed on who we want to keep, and those conversations are in train. As soon as I’m in a position to give you the first news, you’ll be the first to know.”

We need you Chuck! In the post-Keane apocalyptic world, we will need to build the team around the likes of you ...

Would be delighted to see Chuck and McAuley sign up. Not too fussed about any of the others to be honest. They can get the same train out of here as Keane in my opinion. Fulop, MacAuley, Smith, Peters, Hyam, Norris, Leadbitter, Priskin, Scotland and Wickham should be the core of a good side. New gaffer just needs some full backs to play at full back and wingers to play on the wings. Novel idea i know but it might just work. Also any loanees should come in with a view to improving what we have already. Call me crazy.

clive agree with all you say but also i think Edwards gets a lot of stick but he has been much better this season. Townsend signed up permanently on the left and it aint a bad team!!

Good point Clive agree - Would like an attacking/creative midfielder !!! as well Hyam played the holding role well - especially for a youngun and gives the others more freedom

Bluelady, at the risk of stating the obvious, we would also have to play Townsend!

blueherts would be interesting to see how LIvermore played in a team with Hyam playing holding role? Certainly Norris was banging away the goals back then too....... no idea why stopped that winning formation

Agree about Townsend 100% BlueLady - he is a proper winger and they are hard to come by. Really feel he has great ability and I would love to see him playing regularly on our left hand side. Edwards for me is past it and has lost the pace he once had. Also i suspect he is on serious dollar. Would rather see a youngster like Peters or Lambe given a regular run in the side. With those 12/13 players, 2 or 3 QUALITY loan signings, sub keeper and a couple of youngsters i only think we are about 3 permanent signings and a manager away from a top 6 side.

tractorbeezer lol, im sure Rednapp was hoping he'd be played, otherwise why let the lad out on loan??!!! im sure other champ teams would have snapped up the chance of such a creative natural left winger!

Maybe the reason RK hasn't been playing Luke Hyam recently is because he was injured the last time he played. There is so much tunnel vision on this site about RK's failings that people seem to forget about injuries etc when moaning about RK's squad selections.
I would have liked to see Keane succeed but I suspect a change is now due - but I do get really p..sed off at some of the truly ignorant comments we have to read. This is not aimed at you Bluelady as I think you are one of the more sensible contributors.

RRanger - there is no doubt that RK has failed to acheive the objectives he and the board set and barring some kind of miracle it's very hard to see him lasting much longer. No doubt some people will be very happy about this and there will be a good deal of crowing from those who 'hated' RK even before he became our manager.

Oh and if anyone thinks that anyone from ITFC actually takes any notice of the sentiments expressed on this site - think again. I guess it's good to let off steam though!

Anyway COYB on Saturday!! (I hope that we can all agree on that)

Norris has never been worth the money we paid Plymouth - an excellent bit of business on their behalf. Never have seen what all the fuss is about with Norris - a good honest player at this level but not worth the £2m+ we paid for him...

nobrain, i do agree with your sentiments. you will see i for one am more than ready for Keane to go now, however i was also a supporter that backed him all the way last season and some of this. I hoped he would succeed, saw signs early on this season that he may well do, but sadly it wasnt to be. I get very frustrated by fans who come on saying ' i told you so', how can anyone predict what in football before a ball is kicked? Its a funny old game so they say, and everyone deserves a crack, sadly keane has had his chance and imo blown it. Not sure we will ever know why, temprement, not the right kind of backing from the board (and i dont just mean money, i mean having a more visasble owner), Cleggs inability to sign the right kind of deals, players getting payed for doing little) or maybe a mix of all of that.

I hope that post-Keane he will continue his determined abrasive approach
Surrounded by happy, creative players whose talent is recognised

BL. The 'I told you so' who 'come on', 'come on' now because they 'told you so' this time last season but were heckled off by lots of over excited, blinkered, Keano celeb manager supporters ('Ipswich Towns Roy Keane'.....what?).
A few lucky wins didn't change anything; RK was never going to do the things he said he'd do because he can't. He was always going to take us backwards. It was obvious to some of us.

Good news. McAuley is a must though. By far our most consistent performer. Think we need a decent partner at the back for him though. Delaney has been iffy (although in fairness had a bad injury), whilst Smith and Brown are still learning. For me, the better teams have two experienced centre halfs.

I am with you bluelady.

Petermorris, pity you don't own a football club as you would have the foresight that a lot of us obviously don't have. Who were you suggesting should be manager when RK was appointed or were you a Jim M supporter?

I was a Keane supported when he arrived and was excited by the prospect and thought ITFC would do great things. However, his team selection, tactics and square pegs in round holes, with the exception of a few games at the start of this season, when he seemed to start to pick a more settled team. I am now a firm believer that he has to go. Even if he goes there is no guarantee that the next manager will do any better, Although it is difficult to believe that he can do any worse.

Clive baker is spot on when he says we already have the makings of a good squad.

Alfrom - maybe I do own a football club. Maybe I own this one. Who knows who owns this one. Do you?
Lots of us did have the foresight that you obviously didn't. What I am saying is, don't start getting up yourselves if people like me 'come on' here again giving the same opinion as we did 18 months ago - No to 'Keano'.
RK is still with us, and I WILL maintain my distain for him as a manager of players on any forum, even to you.
My dread is that he will continue as a highly paid Media Puppet, whatever the results are, and we will have to keep him.

bluelady added 20:28 - Dec 15
Peter i think what Alfrom means is there are a few people on here that wanted Keane to fail from day one, irrespective of the impact on our club. (im not saying you are one of them) Saying 'i told you so' doesnt make anyone big or clever, it is just quite frankly annoying. A vast majority of supporters were suprised at Keanes arrival, many probably a little unsure of what it would bring but all united in the hope it would work out for our club. The odd few were totally blinded by his fame but not a large majority. It really isnt about pro or anti Keane its about how we talk to each other on here and quite often there is little respect which is a shame as we all ulitimately want the same thing, a successful football club. I have to agree with you about the Media Puppet, i am sure Evans is rubbing his hands together right now in the knowledge that Keane is in the headlines again at the moment, albeit for the wrong reason - how long it will last who knows, I am suprised Keane himself is happy to be a publicity stunt, i would have thought he had much more pride.

Right. This is the worrying thing - and always has been. RK/ME win win win - we loose.

if only we could get a proper manager then these other problems would melt away having a brain dead tactician as manager is always going to mess up the teams positions as he desperately tries to save his reputation and get a win one day.....putting a shrink up front or the tea lady on the wing.. keane is a desperate man who will keep messing with the team structure in the hope of fluking a win or two somewhere.its his desperation that will relegate us unless the other fools come to their senses an get rid but sometimes i wonder if they are all infected with the " keanesacelebritysohemustbegreat "virus which was rampant through suffolk last year and many a good brain fell to it.lucky enough several off us were immune to it and were able to help the others with a cure but i see the odd infection is still cropping up .we just hope and pray the virus doesn't mutate into something that runs for another year or two

> Roy, myself and the owner are agreed on who we want to keep

That's a bit worrying, as those three are not great football decision makers! Will it be goodbye to the likes of Delaney and O'Connor?

As for Norris, I think he is a decent enough Championship player, probably not quite worth 2M but then we have made worse signings for that kind of money since! He is a central midfield worker and every team needs once of those, although we have four at the moment (Norris, Leadbitter, Hyam and Colback). I still think we need more creative players in the midfield, preferably who can score a few goals! In summary, I would be glad if Norris signs although I hope we are not paying him a fortune.

My bigger worry is that 30,000 a week 'Keano' is only just working all this out himself. After all the matches we've watched, all the rubbish we've read, I almost (almost) feel sorry for him - in an odd sort of way.
Anway, lets see how we all feel this time Saturday........

Norris is not an answer to any footballing question. Unless we want someone to run around a lot with the ball hardly ever under control putting team mates under pressure with his passes then we should not resign him. All the people on this message board who claim we have a great footballing tradition and then ask us to keep this Norris pillock should really have a look at themselves.
Anyone who thinks marcus Evans is happy to have spent over £50mill only to see us at the bottom of the league is also wrong. He is hardly a self publicist is he?The fact that his company may be getting some reflected glory from Keanes high profile will be little compensation as we risk going down a league and then being faced with spending even more cash or losing what he has invested. Honestly - please think before you write. Good God.
