Town Topic: Who Should Replace Keane?
Town Topic: Who Should Replace Keane?

With Roy Keane sacked 20 months into his Portman Road tenure, who would you like to replace him?

Paul Jewell is the early front-runner, Chris Hughton, Gary Megson and Alan Curbishley have all been linked, but who do you want?

Poyet and Taricco! Gus has a brilliant record and Taricco is the last Town legend!

Jewell not good enough, boring football and personally seedy. We are classier than that.

Otherwise Hughton, Curbs or O'Driscoll all a good bet and better than we've had since Burley.

Top 3...

1. Curbs. Proven. Never scked. Got Charlton up, (twice), quick yo-yo but kept them up. Kept West Ham up when they were dead and buried. Got them mid-table security when board sold players behind his back. Both those clubs similar size ambition to us. Safe bet. PPL critisise his style, yet Chartlon fans, West Ham fans AND ITFC fans should be grateful for Prem mid-table security just now...!!!
2. Hughton. Great job at Newcastle. Good pedigree. Young and ambitious.
3. Jewell. Superb job at Bradford and Wigan. Bombed at Shef Wed and Derby but was up against it financially with Wed, and with a crap team in an impossible position with Derby. Didn't mount a challenge once they'd dropped though. Some reservations. Tends to walk away from jobs too.

Comments on others: MON - should be Liverpools next boss so won't come. Big Sam - gets results but not our style, should get a Prem/northern job soon. O' Driscoll - interesting, slight gamble, could be next Burley though. Poyet/Taricco - interesting, not proven over any length of time, Poyet's moved around alot in a short space of time, would he settle? Burley - worn out. Lambert - would be awesome but just won't happen. Destined for bigger things, (too good for Norwich, like MON was!) Megson - help! Butcher - not proven with anything like as big as ITFC, fans would back him all the way, but personally want better track record. Coppell - awesome for Reading, what happened at Bristol City?? Would be concerned.

Curbs my overwhelming preference....

Paul Mariner. Or I would have burley and butcher. Would be happy with curbs too.. I am a fan of old boys going back I know doesn't always work but the do care for the team unlike keen who was a tit. Taricco throw him in the mix too with poet.

People keep crying out for Matt Holland - a great servant to the club, a very good footballer, but very little managerial experience. Pretty sure Keane was a great servant to Man Utd, a very good footballer, and had very little managerial experience and look where that got us...

Hughton -- not necessarily a great manager -- given a team with players like Carroll, Ameobi, Nolan, Barton, Harper, Coloccini, Gutierrez etc I reckon even my nan could have got that team promoted out of the Championship so hasn't really achieved anything spectacular

Curbishley -- the one who did well for Charlton or the one who got booed out of Upton Park after taking West Ham to near-relegation?

Martin O'Neill -- would be a very good man for the job -- one of the best British managers around

Jewell -- managed to get Wigan up from a team of no-hopers to a household Premiership name -- knows the lower leagues as well from time at Bradford I imagine, and with a couple of years out the game may have a new approach

Lambert -- Norwich just turned down an approach from Burnley for him, chances of letting him change East Anglian allegiance? very unlikely

Poyet and Taricco -- Not sure who came up with this but certainly a fun bandwagon to jump on now, but not a long term thing -- both very inexperienced

We need someone who has been around a while, knows the game and knows how to manage. Let Holland/Taricco/others get some lower league jobs first and prove themselves and then bring them back in 10 years if they are any good!!

Curbs for me...i always thought we should have tried to get him last time.

Other than that Jewell i'm ok with..got experience of getting teams up which is always good. O'Driscoll possibly, or maybe Hughton (although i feel we need an experienced head tbh) or Hodgson?

Please not Sam Allardyce....good grief i need to give my neck a rest from craning it towards the sky to watch the ball!

Martin O'Neill? Why would he come here? (He'll probably be announced as manager on Monday!!)

Just hope our owner and Mr Clegg make the right choice this time as the last one was a gamble that just didnt work. From the start i had reservations but gave Keane benefit of doubt, but you can't go on breaking all the negative records possible!

Chris Hughton is the perfect choice, he's honest, his feet are on the ground and he understands clubs traditions, most of all tho he gets players to play for him

Its SO exciting to even be in this position...

Personally, I'd be horrified if we wasted this amazing opportunity and went for someone like Jewell or Megson: tired, disinterested, self-aggrandising...

Like many others on here my dream would be to see Martin O'Neill here. He would bring HUGE experience and tactical know-how as well as being truly inspirational, articulate, thoughtful and very gracious (whether winning or losing).

Yup, the more I think about it the more MON would be the WOW-signing.

So, Megson or Jewell it is then :(

realistically id like to have chris hughton, he has failed to do a poor job so far. i wouldnt mind jewell but he has been sacked most recently for doing an awful job

There is no way Martin Oneil will come portman rd, but with evans money and ambition Hodgson is a possible and clearly the best manager of all being bandied around.

Absolutely not Megson, no way, never ever, the bloke is an utter disaster even before you factor in the yellow and green. Allardyce also, while having had success in the past, is about as far from the ITFC ethos as it is possible to be.

Hughton would be good, however I fear he may be destined for the Premier league. O'Driscoll would be perfect, but would require compensation which the club may not want to pay. Hodgson would be a dream, but would he want to take a step down and start again at this point in his career? Terry Butcher has been doing well recently, and surely all ITFC fans would love to see him at Portman Rd., however there would again be compensation issues, likewise Poyet and Treacle.

Realistically I think Jewell would be a decent appointment, experienced and surely with a point to prove. Just hope that everyone will fully get behind him and help lift the team out of danger.

Curbs with Holland as his number two would be my choice.
Unfortunately the bookies are usually right and I expect Jewel to be
Appointed which I think will be a worse appointment than Keane was.
Interesting times ahead !

lets be sensible can we, too many people tipping hughton, he's less experience than when keane arrived, huge gamble and will not happen as they want more experience.
some questioning what happened to coppell at bristol city,. as i understand it he left because they bought david james behind his back, he didnt want him and i dont think he managed them for one game, he walked out b4 season started, plays the right way.
as for martin o'neill, get real, bob hope and no hope, dont want him anyway, plays scruffy football same as keane and no good less he got millions to spend.
curbs or jewell prob best of realistic choices, unless a foreigner coming in on the quiet.
makes me laugh on keane comments that no one wants to come to us due to location.. tell that to joe royal, no shortage of good players then, its just coz no one wants to play for keane, thats why peter taylor turned down no.2 position.
anyhow i recon we find out by tues morning but if its smeghead megson i gonna burn my arsenal ticket.

How about Joe kinnear? He was a great manager wit Wimbledon and Newcastle. Had he not had that heart attack Newcastle would not have been relegated.
