Town Topic: Who Should Replace Keane?
Town Topic: Who Should Replace Keane?

With Roy Keane sacked 20 months into his Portman Road tenure, who would you like to replace him?

Paul Jewell is the early front-runner, Chris Hughton, Gary Megson and Alan Curbishley have all been linked, but who do you want?

I forgot Keegan too. The season we got relegated, despite our 0-6 and 0-5 reverses against Liverpool, his Man City team were the best side I saw all season (in the FA Cup). It would certainly be entertaining!!

Its not going to be Jol, ONeil or Hodgson, all want and will wait for the next big Prem job - Lets face it with the Liverpool job likely to be available soon its gonna mean ONeil will sits on his hands. Lets hope to god its not Megson the guy plays a more negative unsuccessful brand of football than RK.
If it was 18 months time Poyet & MT might be a decent option.
Right now no ones gonna gamble with a guy from a smaller less fashionable club so that really leaves - Curbs or Jewell. Neither would want the earth in wages nor could they justify it. Curbs is local and my choice but I fancy PJ gonna get it -
Nice thought though re Matt Holland as coach - bring back that tradition feeling.

As a previous poster as already stated (chorltonskylineblue) “Our best appointments - Ramsey, Robson, Burley - have been up and coming managers and we've given them the support to slowly build a good team and get success.”
My ideal would be for an up and coming manager to be given the job, someone who can build the team and move the club forward over a long period in the way Sir Bobby did, weather Clegg & Evans have the savvy to find such a man is open to debate.

My choices are

1. Martin O'Neil (Probably out of our league but don't underestimate the power of Marcus Evans bank account, he got RK after all)
2. Martin Jol (Same as above, would be a real feather in Evans cap and a quality appointment)
3. Poyet & Tarrico (Nice balance about these two, play good football and with Tarrico's Ipswich roots almost an ideal appointment, although prising them away from the South Coast might be tricky)
4. Sean O'Driscoll (Plays good football and makes the most of what he has to work with, would love to see what he could get out of our players)
5. Paul Tisdale (Don't know to much about him, but have heard a few good things, would be the kind of appointment Mr John would have made, worth a shout)

The rest are long shots & my appraisals on other contenders, and remember Roy Keane came out of left field (Not that it was a particularly good field)

6. Joe Royle (Good eye for a player and almost worked a miracle nearly getting us up twice, that extra 1 million he wanted looks a small sum these days, possibly past his sell buy date)
7. Terry Butcher (ITFC Legend doing well again in Scotland, has had some blips in his managerial career but looks to have learnt)
8. Paul Mariner (Another ITFC legend, brief spell at already doomed Plymouth came to an untimely end, has worked well in the USA, probably a gamble but fans would give him time for sure)
9. Alan Curbishley (Safe pair of hands, good at slowly building a team, we are probably the right size club for him and would allow him to have total control of the club)
10. Paul Jewel (Bookies favourite, good times at Wigan & Bradford not so good at Derby and Sheffield Wednesday)
11. Ray Wilkins (Chelsea have slumped big time since he was shown the door, which suggests he had a bigger influence than people realised, perhaps more suited to the number 2 role)
12. Chris Hughton (Did well at Newcastle but had some good tools to work with, not sure about him)
13. Sam Allardyce (Would not put up with any slackers and would get us up for sure, not sure if his style of football would be to everyone's liking)
14. Roy Hodgson (Could be available in a week or so if we bide our time)
15. Paul Lambert (Would have liked him before Budgies got him, but reports of a bust up north of the county line make things interesting)
16. Matt Holland (Could possibly make a good number 2, not sure if he would want to give up his media work)

Definite no no's for me Megson, Magilton, Burley, Hoddle, Dowie

I'd be quite happy to welcome Paul Jewell, Curbs would be my number 1 realistic choice but SSN is rarely wrong so we may as well get use to it and welcome Paul Jewell to ITFC!

Jewell would be ok did a good job at Wigan and Bradford. But i think we would all like to see a young manager who would does things the right way the Ipswich way!!!!
Someone to excite the fans again by playing football the right way the Ipswich way!!
And make the country look at Ipswich again and think there my second favorite team.

Curbs-Holland or Poyet and Tarrico(legend)

I had a season ticket from the Ferguson years until the early Burley era until I joined the Forces. Since then I have had to rely on this forum to determine the general mood of the feelings of us fans about our great club. What I can easily feel is that today's decision is the correct one but also a sad one. Over the last couple of seasons (under Jim and Roy) there has been nothing but depressing posts on our clubs status and at many times it has made very depressing reading. I know who I would like to be made our next leader but what I would like most is that we all rally behind the boys and create a real good factor again and make it fun supporting our Super Blues.

Rant over

Sorry - I meant 1) Martin O'Neil, 2) Martin Jol.

I know - fantasy island... We will probably end up with Ian Dowie.

Yesterday, before betting was pulled, Jewell dropped from 20/1 to 6/5... But I do hope that a number of candidates will be considered and interviewed accordingly. Jewll will no doubt bring Hutchings with him as 2nd in command... another manager recently fired. Happy days.

By the way Booble - if you mean Avi Cohen, I think you're a bit late...

Curbs for me or O'Driscoll. Would prefer Jewell to some of the others linked such as Megson.
I don't want Chris Hughton purely for the fact people keep calling him Houghton!
