O Driscoll was my choice but willing to get behind Jewell and support the team. 1st task to get Townsend back on loan

Like any appointment to Ipswich Town, I wish Paul Jewell the very best of luck. Is he the right choice? - as others have said, time will tell. However, I hope that supporters will show patience more akin to the first few years of the Burley and Robson eras and allow him the time to build a team as opposed to demanding success too quickly. First steps for me have to be to get some natural width into the team with a modicum of pace. One genuine wide midfielder who wants to take a man on and/or a more creative influence in the centre of the park would set PJ's team in the right direction. Finally, less chopping and changing and a bit of continuity would not go amiss in team selection. An interesting time to be an Ipswich fan!

Welcome to ITFC Paul.

I'm looking forward to seeing you bring out the best in the our current squad, maybe with the addition of a right-back, left winger and a creative midfielder.

Good luck

Welcome! There are some important statements going around today - valuing the clubs' traditions but looking forward, understanding the close community links we have, playing 'the way Ipswich expect the game to be played'. Hold to them, Mr Jewell, build on them and develop them by bringing your own particular gifts to ITFC and let's work together for a bright future.

Welcome to PR Mr Jewell. It was quite strange actually because when i saw him on sky sports last week, i said to my mum that i was imagining him sitting there with the Marcus Evans logo behind him ... spooky huh!?

Didn't want RK here from the start, but am quite optimistic about the future under our new manager. Time will tell I guess, but good luck, Paul. Just hope the football (as well as the results, obviously) improves!!

All we need short term is a safe(ish) pair of hands which i think to be fair Jewell will be to get us back on an even keel. I think style wise he should be an improvement over what we've seen as well so all the best to him and lets support him and the team as much as we can. He was in the middle of the range of possible managers i'd have liked - Hughton/Poyet at top but at least he's not Allardyce or Megson, god forbid.

Good luck to him

I'm not impressed.

Why has he been out of work for two years? Did he think the daily commute to Inter-Milan was too stressful so turned down that offer?

I hope it works out so now the time to keep quite for a bit and see what happens. Not optimistic.

Have to answer the challenge to put money where mouth is so this is the permanent record of my opinion..

Very impressed with his speech of Suffolk Radio at lunchtime. No big predictions or over inflated ego and has identified that the first step on the ladder is to get the players to start to believe in themselves.

Given time I think he will do well at Ipswich, the big question is will he be given the time.

I believe he has inherited a club that is in a worse state, playing staff, wise than most people are willing to accept. Going down is a reality will the fans be as positive if that is the case?

What if we do go down, and results don't go our way at the start of next year?

PJ has the ability to turn the club around and I am confident that he will do so, but he is not a magician and rebuilding the club will take years. We must be realisitic about our short term goals and ambitions. WE MUST FOR THE FUTURE OF THIS CLUB GIVE PJ OUR FULL SUPPORT, THROUGH HIGHS AND LOWS, OR THERE IS NO HOPE FOR ANY OF US.

Already feels like a breath of fresh air blowing through Portman Road.

From the steaming pile of horse manure Keane left us with a Big round Jewell has emerged.

Good luck Paul.

Agreed, welcome to PR and only time will tell, but he does tick many boxes ... experience, wanting to play football etc. He has a massive job on his hands and the low-key comments are very wise. Let's see him (hopefully) get the best out of what players we have and then see a few wise signings.

Best of luck Paul, you'll get time and backing at ITFC, especially if you can get us playing football again rather than the negative hoofball we saw under Keane.

Oh and please build a relationship with the fans, we haven't had a single person at the club who seems to know we exist since Magilton left.

Well even if he does no better than Keane, he seems a decent human being so is more deserving of support. There are clearly better managers out there so I assume that they were either too expensive or not interested in coming to manage what is, without doubt, a terrible squad of players. I cannot think of any of the current squad who are good enough to remain here (the better players have already gone), so we need to bide our time and hope that Jewell's dealing in the transfer market are better than 3 of his 4 predecessors (Royle's were decent enough). Good luck : you really will need it.

I will support him because he is our manager, the same as I have always supported any manager of Ipswich town Football Club.

I think this is a good appointment. I thought his Wigan side was very good and I'm sure that given backing by the owner and the fans (and a bit of luck) that we can improve from here.

I was full of optimism when Roy Keane was appointed that didn't work out unfortunately - he tried and failed! So here we are again 20 months down the road full of optimism for Paul Jewell as every true ITFC supporter should be (live the dream) Good luck Paul see you all at Wembley!

Remonds me of the Joe Royle and George Burley appointments. Had some success elsewhere, not the biggest name but a steady guy. Hope for good things. Keane was the wrong man but brought on Connor well.

Welcome Mr Jewell, I hope people give you more of a chance than they gave Joe, Jim and Roy

and Ignore the local media, they seem to have a negative opinion of everyone

Sounds like a decent guy and a breath of fresh air for the club. Talks a lot of sense...and hopefully we'll have none of the media circus that surrounded us under Roy.

I'm happy :) Good luck Paul!
