Jewell Makes First Town Scouting Trip
Jewell Makes First Town Scouting Trip
Tuesday, 11th Jan 2011 22:38

New Town boss Paul Jewell was spotted on the first scouting mission of his time in charge of the Blues tonight, taking in Peterborough’s 2-1 victory over Brentford at London Road.

The most obvious potential targets in action were Posh duo George Boyd and Craig Mackail-Smith. Left midfielder Boyd has been linked with the Blues on a number of occasions over the years, most recently last summer, while striker Mackail-Smith has scored 16 goals for the League One side this season and looks likely to move back to the Championship before too much longer.

Scotland B international Boyd, 25, spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest last season before signing a new three-year deal at London Road in the summer.

Mackail-Smith, 26, joined Peterborough from Dagenham and Redbridge for £125,000 in 2007 and is contracted to Posh until 2012. Like Boyd, Mackail-Smith was born in England and qualifies to play for Scotland.

Having been unveiled at a press conference on Monday, Jewell formally begins his time in charge at Portman Road on Thursday.

Finally a manager who looks down into the lower leagues for up and coming players (some pretty good ones about) instead of our previous manager who just brought premier league faliures, keep it up PJ! COYB

Its good looking into the lower leagues, but boyd and mackail-smith were both part of a side that got relegated, so they couldnt have been amazing. However i'm sure whatever signings jewell makes will be more thought out, unlike keane who bought lee martin.

Sequence of events:
1) Jewell wipes slate clean...

2) Jewell has many DVD's to watch....

3) Jewell's first scouting mission begins!

lol. See, he is a good manager, it took him an afternoon of highlights to work out he needs to use the window and he got straight to it!

both rated as good players, - nice to see jewell straight in there watching the lower leagues.
remember, fallon was a figure of hate at plymouth, hence the reason why we found it a strange signing. these 2 are both rated as good players already. fallon has done ok since signing for us, but not set the world on fire.
hopefully PJ is looking for a right back also.

AS I have said before on previous posts, don't ignore Lambert and Lallana from Southampton. Would a really good double swoop with C.Austin up front!

We need to get replacements in for Townsend and Colback as soon as we can.
It is looking more and more likely that we are going to lose McCauley and Norris so we need to start thinking about replacements for them also.
Please send Healy out on loan (Lowestoft Town if they want him) and Eastman (to get some first team experience).
Its obvious, but the 21 players out of contract needs to be addressed asap. McCauley in particular is a key player (our side could begin to be rebuilt around Fulop and McCauley).
Some fresh blood, and PERMANENT signings, are badly needed.
Don't renew Healy or Lisbie!!!

Wickedblue- Can you clarify which supporters you think are Juvenile Morons? All I see in these posts are relective "wishlists" from different supporters. Unrealistic? Maybe,- but its nice for supporters to dream!

For those who said keane did the same as he signed fallon that was out of desperation he should have been doing it a long time ago! Asked clegg to do deals on has been prem players on very high wages! As for those that said these boys were relegated so was big mac don't think he was a dudd do you? Well done pj really inspired by u so far. Think mac and norris will feel the love soon and re sign if not better off without!

> I remember Keane getting moaned at for signing a League One player in Rory Fallon

I think most people on here like the idea of signing League One players, but the concerns with Fallon were his age (about to turn 29) and his goalscoring record for Plymouth (1 in 7). I think Keane knew of Fallon from his Sunderland days and from the World Cup, so I'm not sure it is someone he scouted from watching League One games. The more I think about it, the more let down I feel that our last manager ignored the lower leagues, instead nearly always speaking to "Brucie" to get new players from the Premier League.

Boyd and Mackail-Smith may have been members of a team that got relegated, but Kevin Nolan was also a member of a team that got relegated. Remember him last season ....?

Boyd and Makail-Smith are great players they just need a good to show it... 1 million for the pair maybe 1.5M get 'em in.....oh and if that fails lallana austin and lambert...could also pick up a couple of full backs?

dobbie73 - was about to make that point myself. Just because players are in a team that get's relegated, it doesn't mean that they 'took it down'.

encouraging, there must be plenty of good players in lowly teams ,just because the team is not the up Championship or Prem dosnt mean its a waste of time looking there. We need to be looking for these players on the up,not always looking for players on way down .WELL DONE PJ ,a new manager,a new approach ,renewed hope!. ......chant WHO ATE ALL THE PIES.. WHO ATE ALL THE PIES..JEWELL ATE ALL THE PIES..JEWELL ATE ALL THE PIES. COME ON YOU BLUES.

i think players will want to come and play for Jewell, with Keane those who has played for him before seemed to be happy to come back, but maybe he had difficulty finding new players who were put off by his reputation. Only reason we got Fallon is cause it was 'written' oh and cause Keane is his dad of course :-) I havent felt this jovial in months....

It's pointless looking at the exciting young talent in League 1 when we can get people like Lee Martin for £1,700,000.
