McParland: Wickham Could Be Unplayable
McParland: Wickham Could Be Unplayable
Friday, 14th Jan 2011 09:23

Former Blues caretaker-manager Ian McParland says Town striker Connor Wickham “could be unplayable” once he gets a bit older. The Scot, who left the club yesterday, says the 17-year-old has a lot to learn but could go a long, long way in football.

McParland said: “Connor’s a young lad, a lot of people forget he’s only 17 and they heap a lot on his young shoulders. He’s learning the game, he’s not the finished article by far.

“If he keeps working hard and coaches get a hold of him and teach him to play the game, he’s got all the attributes to go and be a top player.

“They need to teach him how to spin in behind, get the ball into feet and play as a centre-forward. When he gets a bit older he could be unplayable.”

McParland used Wickham in a role on the left of a five-man midfield against Arsenal on Wednesday, having been impressed with him during training the previous day: “When I watched him in training on Tuesday he was sprinting up and down. He was raring to go.”

brittaniaman, love the shots of our bench on the highlights, the free kick where delaney headed back accross the six yard box, McParland Loughland and Kiwomya were heading every ball!

wickham was dreadful at chelsea - but so were most of them - he played ok on wed, but needs a goal. jury his still out if he is to be a Bent or a Bowditch.

Completely agree he isnt the finished article - but thats the scary thing - he is already a handful and shows signs of complete magic! He is going to be huge, and be an England regular, just hope we keep him for a few more years and he gets to play for the town in the Premiership! COYB!

I haven't seen anything in Wickham to suggest he is worth 10mil. Would take any offer over 7m for him now.

ME's Ipswich town 'categorically denied' any training ground rifts between RK, players and coaching staff.... what are people implying here?

When I heard Charlie McP talking on Sky whilst in Legends prior to match, thought he sounded a bit like Bill Shankly;and when I saw him pitchside thought the same.By his remarks above and tactics for Arsenal game has future in game.Good luck. How about Liverpool job when King Kenny abdicates?

Take it from me - Charlie McParland know's his stuff - an excellent recruit by Roy Keane, but he never used him for maximum benefit WHY ?? - only Roy knows the answer to that.
Charlie will one day manage a top club. I stand by that statement.

As he has only played about 4 games this season, yes - he must be unplayable...
