Luton Midfielder Linked With Town Switch
Luton Midfielder Linked With Town Switch

Town are targeting Luton midfielder Andy Drury, according to rumours circulating amongst Hatters fans during their 2-2 draw with Gateshead at Kenilworth Road on Saturday afternoon.

Earlier this month, Coventry boss Aidy Boothroyd dismissed claims that the Sky Blues are set to sign the 27-year-old, who looks destined to make the step up to Championship or League One football this month with Sheffield United also linked.

Drury, who missed Saturday’s match with a hamstring injury amid rumours of a £100,000 or £150,000 switch to Town, began his career with Sittingbourne before joining Gravesend and Northfleet, the club now known as Ebbsfleet, in 2003.

After three years with the Kent club the 5ft 11in tall all-action midfielder or occasional striker moved on to Lewes in 2006 and in 2007/08 helped the Rooks to the Conference South title.

In the summer of 2008 he joined Stevenage and in his first season at Broadhall Way was in the side which won the FA Trophy and reached the Blue Square Bet Premier play-offs.

Last year, Drury and Stevenage finally secured promotion to the Football League, winning the division but losing the final of the FA Trophy to Barrow.

In the summer, Drury eschewed the lure of League Two football to join Luton on a free transfer and has enjoyed a fine half-season with the Hatters, scoring eight goals in 25 games.

After the 3-2 victory over Doncaster, Town boss Paul Jewell said he hoped to make signings this week. With loanees Jack Colback and Jake Livermore gone or imminently going, central midfield looks like an area where the Blues need strengthening, particularly if captain David Norris moves to Portsmouth.

Meanwhile, decathlon legend Daley Thompson has slammed Town chief executive Simon Clegg for his comments regarding the future of the 2012 Olympic stadium earlier in the week: “Simon Clegg left Olympic sport, and he has no credibility in football. To sort that out he's trying to make friends with his new football chums, so he's forgotten all the promises that were made.

“We promised a legacy. We need to be able to stage future World and European athletics championships.”

Certainly a replacement for either Norris or Leadbitter. Good that we have a manager who brings in replacements before selling off or giving away players (David Wright left with no natural replacement).
The more I see, the more I think "Goodbye and Good Luck Norris"

Finally, a manager prepared to sign eager players from the lower and non-leagues. Personally, though, I think he should phone up the Crawley manager and take Matt Tubbs off them. Mind you, they paid £250,000 for him in the summer - so he won't come cheap. I reckon we'd have to pay close to half a million for him. Would be so worth it though.

And who's the official ticket distributor for the Olympics Daley? Isn't it one Marcus Evans?

Wonder if Clegg had any sway in that one?

Can't imagine that this is more than idol specualtion, Drury wouldn't add a lot to ITFC at this point. He's been good for Luton, but the step up will be considerable and Leadbitter, Norris and Hyam would get ahead of him in the team everytime. 100,000 though? Would be a relatively cheap investment.
Would have to solidly agree that Matt Tubbs from Crawley would be a great investment. 500,000 would gurantee him and hes been absolutely brilliant for Crawley (and they pulled out all stops to sign him with good reason). He would be an automatic first choice in the team.

Seems like a replacement for Norris but possibly a new addition to play alongside Healy/Leadbitter with Norris/Peters on the right?

Drury sounds like a decent bargain from the lower divisions - £100k for an experienced pro who'd probably chomp at the bit to prove himself at a higher level (rather than a Prem youngster on loan who thinks he's doing us a favour) is IMHO the way forward

As for Daley Thompson, his stupid game broke my ZX Spectrum in 1984 and he still hasn't sent me a replacement

Some on this site do not seem to appretiate good players. norris is our captain and a good player, has scored 7 goals and at 29 in his prime, for god sake do you really think that an untested league one player is going to be a good replacement for Norris who is an experienced campaigner. What is Clegg doing.

I've never seen the lad play but I've said all along that little gems from the lower divisions who are hungry to prove themselves are what we should be looking at...it's about making a player into a star - infact, that for me is more exciting and gives more pleasure than getting a so called 'proven' player at this level who has probably lost form and not the same player anyway...If you buy two or three players for say £500k on relatively low wages and only one makes it then we haven't lost too much - just ask P'Boro where they got Boyd and Mackail-Smith from..

I say give ErikaTractor a seat on the board. Her views are well thought out, intelligent and relevent.

Oh and she looks gorgeous!

He's 27, surely he would have already made the step up if he was good enough?!

Not true Nunny, Ian Wright and Teddy Sheringham were late starters and the pair were outstanding players.

Don't know much about the guy, but at 27 the step up from the Conference to the Championship might be a bit much? If it works then great but its a big ask. Can't help but think of colin Healy, who is finally having a decent run, but has really struggled up to now...
