Jewell Confident of Making Signings
Jewell Confident of Making Signings
Friday, 28th Jan 2011 14:03

Town boss Paul Jewell says he’s hopeful that he can add to his squad before the transfer window closes on Monday. So far midfielder Jimmy Bullard is the Blues' only January signing, the 32-year-old joining on loan until the end of the season.

Jewell told the club site: "We're hopeful of doing something before the deadline. We're trying to help the squad and improve it.

"Players themselves are always looking for the squad to be strengthened and hopefully we can add to the options we have. I think the more options we've got, the happier everyone will be."

Town appear to have missed out on signing Swindon’s Charlie Austin, who has reportedly agreed to join Burnley, while Luton’s Andy Drury is a target with Coventry and Sheffield United also interested in the 27-year-old midfielder.

So instead of a 21 yr old prolific goalscorer, with the greatest respect, we may be able to get a non league midfielder in his late twenties. How low have we sunk

Ifeel PJ is living in cloud - cuckoo land if he thinks signings are going to be made at any time not just before monday !!!!

A reasonable response from PJ, calm and controlled, seen it all before, he is probably like us all, disappointed, but knows these things happen in football, move on to the next target and life goes on.

I trust him to identify other targets, and the next one might not be a money grabbing mercenary...but dont hold your breath

The non-league midfielder will go to coventry or ????????????????????? !!!

He can identify all the targets he wants. To me it seems that as soon as Simon Clegg gets involved it all goes wrong !! I may have the wrong end of the stick and be completely wrong but I can only call it as I see it !

There are plenty more fish in the sea, and looking at the table Burnley have a good shout of getting to the play-offs so can you blame Charlie Adam for going there? lets look at the bigger picture.

EADT says at 14:08 TODAY 'IPSWICH TOWN: Blues owner Marcus Evans has dug deep in his pockets to finance the loan of experienced midfielder Jimmy Bullard and the expected capture of 21-year-old striker Charlie Austin from League One Swindon Town.'

Expected capture of Austin?! Thought he has agreed terms at Burnley?!

"Players are always looking for the squad to be stregthened...." maybe this is behind McCauley and Norris stalling on signing new deals?

I can understand the doom and gloom, but with Austin lets get it right, not tested at this level, would have been expected to score a hatfull in his first few games by many on here. No one knows how much he wanted in wages. Paul Jewel has been there ,done that I for one think he knows what he is doing and am sure he will get it right, given time. Bullard could be the signing of the season if he stays fit!

RK is probably having a wry old chuckle to himself

Most diappointing bit about the Austin deal, is the fact Burnley come in for him in the morning and its sign sealed and delivered by lunch time.

How come we never seem to be able to do deals quickly, he was with us all day and still we come not come to some arrangement

ME has one interest money, not this club or its supporters if so why hide away give PJ what he wants or see the the attendace soon down to below 15,000 people want value for their money. If not this club will go the same way as with RK.

The deal was stalled by the agent so he could work the Burnley deal to go through at speed ! There was never any intention to sign for us , we were used to get the deal upped at Burnley ! As for PJ he must be starting to wonder what sort of transfer support he is going to get , if any , for anything other than over -the -hill loans coupled with losing the senior players for nothing because contracts are not agreed or signed .

OOOPs I have stepped into the nursery and see all the babies throwing their toys out of their prams...

One thing that bothered me, it was stated Austin first choice would have been Southampton....I don't like the idea of Ipswich being anyones second choice....still disappointing but such is life move on....let's see who else is out there....

We can say get X Y Z here but it will never happen ! Signings ( worthwhile ones ) will always be second rate due to the policies on finance ( profit and loss ) being followed . We need to get used to being a second rate club for the forseeable future ! PJ will be seeing the obstacles RK had to face and will be wondering why he took the job !
