Swansea: Finance Could Scupper Scotland Switch
Swansea: Finance Could Scupper Scotland Switch

Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers says Jason Scotland’s wages may scupper his club’s loan move for their former striker. Yesterday, Blues manager Paul Jewell said the financial package the Swans had offered Town for the 31-year-old was nowhere near what the club would accept.

Rodgers said: “It could be too rich for us in terms of finance. As you can imagine, he left here on a Premier League wage [at Wigan] and then he went to Ipswich on not too dissimilar from that, so we may have to go begging to Ipswich for a bit of support.

“I spoke to Paul Jewell, we had a conversation on Tuesday morning, and our chairman has spoken to them.

“There are not many players who can come in and help us in our situation unless you’ve got a lot of money.

“Jason is a player that hasn’t quite hit it off since he’s left here, but there is no doubt about it, he was one of the most sought-after strikers when he was here. I feel he can probably come in and help us in the last 16 games.”

Jewell hasn’t always enjoyed the smoothest of relationships with Swansea, a protracted move for their Dutch midfielder Ferrie Bodde breaking down during his time as Derby boss.

The new Town manager says he isn't actively looking to move Scotland on but that the player has said he’d like the switch in order to get games and therefore won’t stand in his way: “Jason’s the only one who has intimated to me that he’s not particularly happy, so if he’s not happy and he wants to leave and it’s right for us, then he can go.

“If Fernando Torres can leave Liverpool, Jason Scotland can leave Ipswich, but only if the money’s right.”

Jewell says he’d prefer to get a replacement in before Scotland leaves but that things don’t always go to plan: “That would be the ideal situation, but in football some things aren’t always ideal. But we have a few options as well, so let’s see how it runs.”

Aside from bringing in another player on loan, Town could recall Kevin Lisbie from Millwall at 24 hours’ notice, something which Jewell has previously said he has considered. In order for Pablo Couñago’s season-long loan at Crystal Palace to be curtailed early the two clubs and the player would all have to agree to end the arrangement.

Jason Scotland is clearly inpatient. PJ has been in charge for 4 league games with 3 wins on the bounce - a winning formula, why change it? JS needs to fight for his place and prove that he can be better than those currently having success in the team. Is he going to be guarenteed a start at Swansea? If not, will he be throwing his toys out of the pram or will he be happy claiming his wages sitting on Swanseas bench? I think he is more than capable of doing a job for us but the way he is behaving he is going to end up being this seasons hate figure a la 'Lazy Lisbie'!!

He cannot be allowed to go unless we have a replacment, if they do not want to pay part of his wages then he stays here, at least until the summer.

He should stay until the end of his contract,a contract is a contract and should be binding.
If he doesn't want to play, then leave him on the bench until he gets a new attitude, anyone remember that song from Beverly Hills cop "I gotta new attitude!" He will sulk for a bit but then the message will get thru.Give him some pies to munch on and watch the match.Last 15 minutes Jewell, put him on the last 15 minutes.

Firstly, is Scotland fat, or just big built? I cant see any manager letting a player get 'fat' but putting muscle on for a bit of physical presence I can understand, especially against solid defenders. Secondly, you can understand Scotland wanting matches, but Jewell hasnt had too many games to find an excuse to play him in so far, as the 'if it aint broke dont fix it' system seems to be working. Scotland hasnt said he doesnt want to play for ITFC, he just wants games, not out. Understandable. Some on here seem to be far too fickle at times.

JewellintheTown, fickleness is part of this club. Lee Martin is now the prodigal son. When Lisbie comes back and scores a goal he will suddenly be everyones hero. We don't stick by our players, just look at poor old Priskin.

JewellintheTown,I value Scotland but he is overweight and it ain't muscle I'm afraid. Quality player who can turn a game on its head, should come on as a sub in last 15 mins, fitness and speed don't matter then.

Scotland offers more to the squad than Lisbie or Counago.Lose Scotland, and we return to 1 of them.Craig Mackail isn't coming in as an emergency I'm afraid.

Let's be honest, none of our strikers can hit the target regularly and our current improved form is down to more goals from midfield, we need someone who knows where the goal is but they are difficult to find, with a bit of luck once we get rid of Counago and Lisbie in the summer PJ can find someone.

It's oviously Simon Clegg's fault - wake up Cleggy! Just because he's got over 25 years experince in managing top athletes, has a CBE and an OBE, helped to secure staging of the 2012 Olympic games to London, best Olympic medal haul for a 100years in Beijing etc. etc.

The reason he doesn't want to be here, is because he isn't getting a game. Don't forget the seven goals he scored in the bad old Keane days. Surely with the way we are playing now he wouldn't score less than Tamas !

Has anyone heard any rumours with regards to who PJ is looking at in the emergency transfer window?

Also, when does the emergency transfer window close?

Sorry about the name. I thought Keano would do it. I didn't think 'it' meant b*gg"r up the club

Try to get pabs back! Guarantee he would thrive in PJ's team and style of play!

Garv; I don't think that would be the worste idea in the world, especially if Pabs is warming the bench at the moment. But who would you drop to fit him in ?
