Wickham in Running for Fans' Award
Wickham in Running for Fans' Award

Town striker Connor Wickham is in the running for the ESPN PFA Fans' Championship Player of the Month award for February in the wake of his superb goal against Sheffield United and then his first ever senior hat-trick at Doncaster in midweek.

You can register your vote for the 17-year-old Blues striker on the PFA’s website, which can be found here.

Meanwhile, former Blue Paul Goddard, who works for Wickham’s representatives the Stellar Group, says the striker is happy at Town, despite reports linking him with a summer move to Tottenham: “Connor’s committed to Ipswich and wants to help them do well next season. Ipswich is his club.

“He appreciates that he has all the assets and he wants to capitalise on them. He ticks all the boxes, but knows he has got to develop further and he has every chance of doing that with Ipswich now.”

Goddard hints that the England U21 international wasn’t quite so happy with life under the Blues’ previous management: “He is grateful to Roy Keane for giving him his opportunity and he has always given his all for the club, but it would be fair to say there were frustrations.”

Wouldn't we just love to believe that he would still be here next season. Great news.

Good news, that is. Would be a shame to see us let him go at such a young age. I think he has to have a 20 goal season with Town, as well as pass 100 appearances before the club before most fans accept it is time for him to leave.

It's good he is being represented by someone who knows something about ITFC. I think he is getting the right advice and I feel certain he will only move when it is right for him, and that we will have him for at least another full season. In the meantime, it might be helpful if certain sections of the media could ease back a bit on the hype.
