Jewell Still Monitoring West Brom Striker
Jewell Still Monitoring West Brom Striker
Thursday, 24th Mar 2011 09:51

Town boss Paul Jewell says he has continued to monitor West Brom striker Simon Cox’s situation at the Hawthorns but so far nothing has changed. The Blues manager targeted the former Swindon man earlier in the month and didn’t rule out making a further move at some point in the future.

Jewell said: “We asked about Simon a while ago, about five or six weeks ago, but he said that he wanted to try to impress their new manager Roy Hodgson, which I fully understand. And we haven’t heard anything to the contrary.

“We haven’t been back in for him, but we have been in contact with West Brom to ask them to keep us informed if things had changed, and at the moment they haven’t.

“There might be a few other clubs interested in him, who are in a better position than us at the moment, in which case we might be up against it. But Simon Cox is not the only one that we have been enquiring about.”

Swansea are understood to want Blues striker Tamás Priskin on loan, a move which is unlikely to take place unless Town have added to their ranks before today's 5pm deadline.

I only want him on loan, i don't think he is the right man to solve our strike problems for good.

Why TractorCam? He's a damn sight better than Scotland and Priskin.

Why loan anyone unless it's seen as a future transfer? Save the fee/wages and put it towards the summer budget...

Agree with JayITFC, little point in getting a striker on loan unless it's with view to a permanent deal in the summer

i like the idea of try before we buy, we can see what he can do for 8 games. especially if we have the OPTION to buy.

Would be a great signing imo

Whoever plays up front he will need have chances created for him to be able to impress.

I would tend to agree that there is limited point in signing anyone on loan unless a permanent deal is likely. But... I could understand that Jewell might think it is worth bringing in someone to see whether a certain kind of player would fit in with some of the other players we have.

For instance - I would be interested to see whether we can make the most of a fox in the box type, who maybe isn't contributing much else to our play. Even if it isn't THE player we might be able to sign, signing that type would indicate whether we this is an option which might make sense.

like i said on another post, i was at a school trip "analysing performance" of wba players yesterday
he looked sharp, training with about 5 first team players and the rest youth team players thanks to the international break
he did score a bullard-esque goal with his left peg though

See Norwich have signed two prem players already on loan, one from Liverpool and the other from Wolves.

Karlosfandangal; and what relevance is this to us? not interested at all about them up the road!

I am interested in what is going on up the road. Another East Anglian club prospering and doing well and sticking to old values whilst Town are spectacularly losing their way. Well done Norwich! How I wish Ipswich had your sense. Delia and Stephen Fry or the Invisible Man? I know who I would choose.

So there you are then......you know who you would choose so go support them,
Yes they have done well with there first season back in this league but this is a ITFC forum not Norwich so lets stick to the topic and talk about town and not worry about what other clubs are doing.
I would take him on loan and i would also look at talking to Burnley about the possible loan of Iwalumo(apologies for the poor spelling)

I think we could see some exciting players come to town this summer, if this is just season ticket talk, i will not be happy!

Suffolkpoker:- I think you're going to be happy ! Just my own opinion.

Think some people on this site need to face facts - much as we do not wish to talk about scummers - they and some others have to be the benchmark we set - it is no coincidence to me how many teams that have regrouped in Div One have come back much stronger ... We all can see our shortcomings and I do believe we have the right man in charge ( as a manager) to take us forward ...
However , as the season is now over I would love to see O Connor , Hyam , Civelli and Murray given a real run of games - Many at the club believe Murray to be the most 'natural finisher at the club - he has impressed when I have seen him in the ressies so why not - Get rid of Priskin and Scotland and unearth another Stewie or Johnson ( or dare I say Graham) - where is Charlie Austin now ..?? 4 games no goals .. I presume he is injured ?? or not getting a game ??

Austin Is injured ... Out for the season.

Sharp, Cox, Graham, Iwelumo, Mckail-Smith, R Lambert, S. Long, S. Morison, B. Pittman, D. Nugent, L. Lita, Ched Evans, Glenn Murray, Johnnie Jackson and even Jordan Rhodes...

All of the above would be very good player to go for in attack and most of them could be available for a potential deal.

It doesnt say much that Murray is considered the most natural finisher at the club. Theres nothing much to beat is there. Priskin needs 5 chances to put 1 away and scotland is well past his sell by date

Or is it simply we can't attract them. We have a whole squad to sign in the summer we are in the brown stuff if we can't attract new blood

Jewell - how many times has he got to tell you HE DOESN'T WANT TO COME HERE ? - so forget him.
