Priskin's Swansea Move Confirmed
Priskin's Swansea Move Confirmed
Thursday, 24th Mar 2011 18:13

Swansea have confirmed that Town striker Tamás Priskin has joined them on loan until the end of the season. The Hungarian’s former Watford boss Brendan Rodgers has been targeting the 24-year-old since he took over at the Liberty Stadium in the summer.

Rodgers said: "I looked to bring him in at the start of the season, but it's only now that he's become available.

"I worked with Tamás at Watford where he was outstanding for me and at 6ft 2in he can offer us another threat and balance for the remaining games.

"He is a player who can add goals to our squad and ensure we have enough cover for the final eight games of the season.''

The move could well be made permanent in the summer with the Hungarian having a year remaining on his Town deal.

Priskin's exit means that Town go into the final games of the season short on strikers with Connor Wickham and Jason Scotland the only recognised frontmen currently at the club. However, the Blues have a 24-hour recall on Ronan Murray once he completes the first month of his loan at Torquay early in April.

The Hungarian, who is currently away on international duty, will not be available for next month's game between the Blues and the Swans.

There will be no further moves in or out of Portman Road today with the 5pm deadline having passed.

I have to back PJ on this one and hopefully Priskin will be sold for a decent fee especially if Swansea get promoted. Someone asked where will the goals come from - well they certainly did not come from Priskin so hardly think he will be missed. I did so want the guy to succeed here as he is a very clever player with some deft touches but the bottom line is he has not scored goals for us. I think PJ will play 4-5-1 for the rest of this season so there is no panic regarding shortage of the 'one' up front. As PJ keeps saying we need the midfielders to chip in with some goals. Good luck in the shop window Tamas with a bit of luck we could recoup a decent sum from the £1.7m we wasted

Thought he'd be on his way today. Priskin really is no loss is he? Calling someone a "striker" doesn't make him one does it? That would be something to do with scoring goals surely. With goals flying in from midfield and right-back in fine style last week, I'm sure us long suffering season ticket holders can enjoy the run-in without our Hungarian maestro shuffling about the pitch. I like watching Connor charging up and down the middle myself, usually with two or three balding fat blokes trailing in his wake. Come on everybody, lighten up! We love our footie at ITFC really don't we, otherwise we'd all be on ebay or facebook now wouldn't we and not on here...
broomfield 123... what?

Same old same old tosh from jas099 and h32.

Of course its been a rubbish season (make that at least the third on the trot) which is why Jewell needs to undertake some serious reengineering. And Priskin is top of a pretty long list of failed keane wasters. Tractor boy 2434 - spot on. A gutless ponce , no stomach for a fight, no courage in the box, no affinity for the club and no return on the vast sums of money he has stolen under the flase pretences of being a "striker". Not at all persuaded by the one up front what do you expect argument, he is like a limp biscuit except on the rare occasions where he feels like turning up. How anyone can lament his passing is beyond me and sending him to the only manager in this Division who rates him makes pretty good sense to me if we somehow want someone to rid us of this cash haemorraging chocolate teapot. Lets hope he's not the last as we somehow try and build something decent for next year.

The negative sniping against jewell as he tries to do this is ridiculous. Like other "silly billies", I'll be renewing and supporting a side next year that will hopefully be better organised with a sharper cutting edge and more guts and leadership on the pitch. That is jewell's challenge. What he's done so far suggests he deserves support, resources and a little bit of patience to try. If you don't want to give him that , stay at home.

Perhaps PJ is going to give the reserves a run to see if any of them are worth keeping. And not forgeting that we can recall murray after a month and that our 'experienced professionals' lisbie and pablo are both out on loan...lets go for the reserves.

It's difficult to make an argument for this being a good move unless the relationship between Tamas & PJ has broken down. Whatever the view on Priskin we have to be weaker as a squad now. I can't believe that this was on the cards when we sent Ronan to Torquay.

It cannot be in the best interests of the squad to have to play out the rest of the season with only 2 recognised strikers, 1 who appears to have long since past caring and the other who, in PJ's own words, will have to be rested at some stage. Sadly it's the season ticket holders who are short changed again as the remaining 4 home games appear to have been written off by the management.

Still I daresay Jaime Peters may well be lined up to play the lone striker role.

cant see any reason to believe he will succeed with Swansea,he has been a waste of space with us and when out on loan previously.I see Narridge got a couple of players in ,they look to be good too,we just cant seem to get the strikers we need, thats it for another season now anyway.Roll on next season.

Dunno why some people are so worried that we've let him go...seriously,how many league goals has he scored this season?..3..4?..to add to the 3 or 4 he got last season! - pathetic!..dunno how he has the nerve to call himself a striker...he's had more than enough chances (quite literally)...i'd be embarrassed with some of his finishing.

I have every confidence in Paul Jewell to bring in a decent couple of strikers during the summer..apart from the arsenal goal,Priskin has been a joke.

Don't worry nobody saw Edwards as a right back. I know that Peters or Martin could play upfront if necissary. I bet Kieron could as well- Who were the forwards for the ressies last night? Maybe one of them? Ainsley...these are only back ups for 8 games anyway

Why didn't we clear out the rest of the dead wood now? Why wait until the summer? Oh yes. we've got 8 games to go and a local derby. Never mind the fans won't notice. We can serve up the same old sh*t. They'll all be back next year even with a 6% season ticket price hike.

Shame. When he first arrived I liked the look of his touches and thought that he could be good for us, but then the goals didn't arrive and haven't. I suppose we could always take him to court and charge him under the trades description act of posing as a striker, re-coup some of the money spent on him and put it toward his replacement !

What's the problem? We're building for next season, not this one. We can get by on what we've got until May. The fact we haven't replaced Priskin immediately shows that the right man is not yet available. Surley better wait until he is than fill the spot just for the sake of it? What is there to criticise? To me it looks as if there is at last some planning going on behind the scenes. That hasn't always been very clear in the past.

Not sure this is such a wise move? If Scotland or Wichham get injured then who have we got apart from the very inexperienced Ronan Murray on recall?

I know we are pratically safe and we are no going to make the play-offs but this is a brave move and I just hope it pays off. The trouble is I cannot see how?

h32 - shame you wont be renewing your season ticket 'at this rate(?) - What I wonder would make you renew - Maybe get rid of ME, SC and PJ. Signing Messi - Mourhinio as Manager - Or wouldn't that fill your substantial glass. I assume the bloke who sits next to you may breath a sigh of relief that if he gets excited by anything he wont be frowned upon. (or is it jas?) - yours faithfully A Silly Billy

Couple of comments.
Firstly, still a lot of moaners on here. We have to have confidence in the management that there is a plan here.
We are looking to rebuild in the close season, and if Priskin doesn't feature, then best to get a decent price for him, move some of his wages now and move on.
We have nothing to play for outside of the derby, but there may be opportunities for some youngsters to get a couple of games in.
Finally, goals come from all areas of the park, so let's not worry over the front men (for now at least!)

Looks like a club that are broke and trying to reduce outgoings to avoid administration again, points deduction and relegation? No other explanation for letting every one leave??
