Wickham Delighted to Extend Contract

Striker Connor Wickham says he’s delighted to have put pen to paper on an extension to his contract aimed at keeping him at Portman Road until 2014. Blues boss Paul Jewell revealed that the 18-year-old had further committed himself to the club this morning.

Wickham said: “I’m obviously delighted to have signed a new contract and feel that I’m at the right club to progress as a player.

“After having a look over the last two years I approached this season wanting to make a real impact. It didn’t start well with me getting injured but I feel I have moved forward as a player since I got back in the side.

“I’m playing games every week, I’m enjoying my football and the club is moving in the right direction and that’s all I want.”

Chief executive Simon Clegg added: “Having Connor committed to Ipswich Town until 2014 is great news for this football club.

“We look forward to him playing an important part in taking us forward to where we want to be, in the Premier League.”

If i was 18 and signing a contract worth £10,000+ per week I think I would be delighted!

Good to have him signed for longer, there will be a release fee in it, but everyone is happy.

Hope to see him play centre forward with a strike partner next season.

This is good news for us, and also for the management team. I am amazed at the number of people moaning about clegg and co. They have a business model that they are implementing, and not over paying for players is part of that. I for one applaud them on their approach, they are not taking the risks that some owners have taken with their football clubs and so are looking at the long term aim here.

bring on next season, its going to be a good one for the mighty blues

p.s. just seen that connor has played 67 games for the town, wow... ok a lot has been off the bench but that's an impressive number for an 18 year old. last time we had somebody similar to that was good old Richard Wright

Crock - he's holding his pen in the left hand, so i think we can assume that, yeah he's a leftie . . . . . . . in fact that should probably be the headline . . . . .

Bloody hell - Cleggy looks like a right miserable bar steward in that pic - Hope that's not because he was thinking of making a quick buck on CW !

Well chuffed we've got CW signed up for a bit longer. Hopefully he can settle now and we can look forward to a team that settles over the next 15 months - By then we should be champions of this league - We might even sing "Cleggy give us a smile!"

If I were Connor I'd take that huge paper clip off the contract and read the small print.

Anyone got a really good computer so we can zoom in on the photo and see what young Connor is on each week?! Glad it's us paying him though, rather than anyone else. Still think he will move soonish but at least this means we should be able to ask a bit more for him.
