Lee-Barrett Will Be Offered Contract
Lee-Barrett Will Be Offered Contract
Monday, 11th Apr 2011 10:03

Town boss Paul Jewell has confirmed that the Blues will be offering a new contract to goalkeeper Arran Lee-Barrett. The Ipswich-born keeper returned to the first team for the recent 2-0 home victory over Scunthorpe and has kept his place for the last two games.

Jewell said: “We will be offering Arran a contract. We’ve offered Brian a contract and Márton’s still got his, so we’ve obviously got three goalkeepers.

“I’m not unhappy to have them, but what I do know is that there are three goalkeepers there that want to be number one, which I want - I don’t want people being happy being in the reserves or out of the picture.

“Things can change over the summer, but we’ll see. Certainly I’m quite comfortable having the three of them on the books.”

Lee-Barrett rejoined Town, with whom he had been an academy schoolboy, in August 2009 after Shane Supple’s surprise retirement. The 27-year-old had been training at Playford Road after being released by Hartlepool earlier in the summer.

An initial short-term deal was extended by another 18 months the following January and the 6ft 2in tall former Cardiff, Coventry, Weymouth and Norwich glovesman has now made 17 starts and one sub appearance for the Blues.

Jewell says there have been no new developments regarding any of the other senior out of contract players who have been offered new deals.

Town have no new injury worries ahead of Tuesday’s home game against Middlesbrough with Lee Martin back from his two-match ban.

Good news, the best of the three in my opinion.
Does anyone know what Shane Supple is doing now?

Fulop will go in the summer I reckon, Aaron is good and hasn't let us down when he's called upon. Murph is great too IMO so we are well covered.

devontractorboy: Nicked this from wiki

The 23-year-old began studying and playing Gaelic football, also as a goalkeeper, for St Brigid's.[6]
In 2010 he became a member of the Dublin senior football panel, being substitute goalkeeper for their NFL game against Mayo in March, [7] although he did not play any part in the game.
Supple excelled in his first full season with his home club St Brigids, acting as vice-captain in their superb run to the final of the Dublin Senior Football Championship in 2010. Supple was nominated for a Blue Star for his excellent performances for St Brigids during the season.

I hope PJ knows what he is doing.

devontractorboy: Hilarious. I politely suggest you wouldn't know a good goalkeeper if he punched you in the face.

If we sell Fulop and rely on Murphy/ALB next season, we will regret it.

Fully deserved.

Thought he was fantastic saturday and should never have lost he's place in the first team under Keane.

I believe Supple is waiting to join the Irish police force.

It would be interesting to know what is said to Marton Fülöp in this current situation. He must certainly be our first choice for next season...

I fear that we will sell Fulop. Fulop is a fantastic Keeper at Championship level and even though has made some mistakes is still a fantastic Keeper at Championship level....The End

bizman, spot on. Fulop is a complete goalkeeper on his day, something neither Murphy nor ALB will ever be. If we sell Fulop and don't replace him, it'll be a disaster waiting to happen.

Good news, he deserves it in my opinion still think next season he will be our no 3 keeper behind Murphy and Fulop but he is still pretty good cover.

I don't think Fülöp is a communicator; he is certainly not good with crosses. One way or another, there just seems to be more panic at the back when he's playing. I expect he'll be gone in the summer--I hope we can recoup the fee.

Do we really need three keepers? Seems excessive considering you can get someone in on an "emergency" loan if you have two injuries.

Happy that he has signed as i thought he was playing well when Murphy was out last season. I don't feel that there is a world of difference between any of them and none inspire like Neil Alexander did although none give me the sense of dread that was the Bywater experience.

'On his day' Souper
When might that be then?
He is number 3 of our 3

In their own way they are all good keepers that is why both keane and Jewell want to hang on to them. I personally agree with Jewell. If they have the desire to be top dog then all three should stay. It is very hard to discriminate because they are all fighting for that numberone spot. After Cooper left Town find it very difficult to find even one good keeper so this is a vast improvement and one we should applaud!

There is one major difference between the keepers: Fulop is an international who was signed from the Premier League so he must be on big wages. Lee-Barrett was unemployed after being released from a lower league team when we signed him and Murphy came from the Irish league. It wouldn't surprise me if Fulop earns in a month what Lee-Barrett gets in a year! So, if Fulop is not first choice then he has to be sold. His contract is up next summer, so we must try to get back some of the £1M we spent on him well before then.

i think we're aiming to recoup on Fulop as im guessing he wont extend contract..... got to let go in that situation....... not a massive ordeal......

Sorry but none of our keepers are top draw.

IMO Murphy is the best ALL ROUND keeper.

ALB kicking suspect. MF crosses suspect.

wasnt a big fan, sighed when i knew he was in goal saturday and was treated to a display i wasnt expecting! Commanded his area well (particularly with the free kick walls), made some great saves and his kicking was the best i have seen at PM all season, not one went into touch!! not saying he sets the world alight but really think he deserves his contract and is a local lad so even better..... (did he really play for Norwich????!!!!!!! for a local lad that takes something!

So wanted Fulop to be the man we have been waiting for since the heyday Richard Wright but I'm afraid he has disappointed with far too many errors. He has the build to take crosses but somehow fluffs them - remember the Emirates.
I was one of those who said a new goalkeeper was not a top priority when we bought Fulop as Murphy and ALB were adequate at the time if not the top notch goalkeeper we need. I could have accepted Fulop if he was much better than the other two but sadly he is not, especially for the fee and wages we are paying. I'll stand by what I said on here last week sell Fulop and buy a new number one, that is if we want to be challenging for promotion next season.

IMO all 3 GK's are much of a muchness. Good shot stoppers , all of them.

But equally all 3 IMO , demonstrate a weakness for the Goalkeeping "basics" ie catching & kicking the ball and commanding of the 6 yrd area.
