Town Boss to Set Contract Deadline
Town Boss to Set Contract Deadline
Tuesday, 12th Apr 2011 08:07

Town manager Paul Jewell plans to set a deadline by which time he wants to hear back from the senior players who have been offered new contracts. Gareth McAuley, Damien Delaney, Brian Murphy and Colin Healy are all weighing up new terms, while the Blues boss has been looking to talk further with skipper David Norris’s agent.

Jewell said: “I think we’re going to have to put a deadline on it this week. I know where the players are coming from, they were left a long time not knowing whether they were getting deals or not.

“If the answer’s a no, which I genuinely hope it’s not, I need to start moving forward on getting other people in.

“I’d love all the players to stay that we’ve asked to stay and add new players on top of that. That’s the ideal situation.”

I do feel agents are trying to make itfc sweat on it and panic pay, and like pj has said he would like them to stay but they can be replaced.

Great tactics, let them know that nobody is indespensible, they wanna go fine there are other players out there... don't get me wrong I want them all to stay just not for the agents to hold town over a barrel.

I would be lining up two centre halves and a centre midfielder in any case. None of these players is indispensible. The only one I'd have any concern about is McAuley, tbh.

Too right we need to know. If Macauley and Delaney are off, it might be a great opportunity to call Smith back and put Eastman alongside him for 4 or 5 games. Not to mention getting out there talking to other out of contract players.

The players have a point but still dont see why it takes so long

They are offered a new contract it get turned down, Town then improve the offer so it must be fairly clear cut, yes or no and if its a minor sticking point then that wont take long to sort.

Still think they are looking to see if other teams are intrested and if not O i have a contract on the table from Ipswich

These players have had plenty long enough to make a decision. I think PJ is well within his rights to push for an answer.

How Strange Football is, in the real world people would bite employers hands off for a 3 year fixed contract that pays out in full if made redundent....

PJ can do very litle wrong in my opinion. He deals with almost every issue in a fair, mature and professional manner. Totally agree with setting a timeline for the deals to be agreed.. And as for my ppinion on Agents, I would be banned from the site for swearing! ha ha!
Absolutely loving this run as we conclude the season and cannot wait for next term! I would have thought a few of the doubters might have changed their views on renewing season tickets... The football is getting more entertaining and we can definitely kick on next season!
Town win tonight! COYB's!

Want everyone offered to stay!
Then we need a new striker or two, a new central midfielder permanent, a better leftback..
and a few decent backups.
Leadbitter-Scotland-Priskin=GET RID.

Well done PJ, we dont need or want players [or agents] holding club to ransom.Too many players in the game with big ego's,too many agents with big ideas. There it is boys ,sign up or start packing.Messing around just wastes precious time, unsettles everything,We need to be cracking on now for next season.

Well done again Mr Jewell ,we need to know where we are and get new players in early like Qpr and the Scum did last summer for a good pre season . I would be happy if all three stayed but if not there will be a number of players looking for clubs like last season and St Ledger from Preston would be a good signing cant see him going down a division

Im not that bothered if they stay or go. If they are that bothered about staying then sign.If your going to fart arse about then go and get yourselve another club who i guess will give you something pretty much the same.Guess many wont loose any sleep if these guys do go. We have young players chomping at the bit to play regular and prove what they can do. Mr dd , mac and chuck you are either approching 30 or over so thanks and goodbye and cheers for the boredam that you have helped create over the last few seasons .You are not that great and very simple to replace.

broomfield123, the reason there is often so much apathy around is because of the number of supporters like you. Your comments make me angry and it may not surprise you that I totally disagree with just about everything you say - and not just on this post

So Delainy, Macauley, Healy, Murphy and Norris all unsigned. I hope it isn't a case of all standing together, thinking that enmass they can force better contracts out of ITFC. Don't think Mr. Evans, Clegg or Jewell would suffer bullying easily. Hope I'm totally wrong ! I'd also hope that they are not waiting for other offers, knowing that a contract is on the table here anyway ! Again, please tell me I'm wrong because I for one would like them all to sign.

50yearsablue, im glad someone said it! He's probably one of those fans that only go when we're playing well. And as for that McAuley Delaney and Norris comment, hardly easily replaceable when those three are main contenders for supporters player of the year.

Quite right PJ..we don't want any money grabbers faffing around with their agents holding out for the most money til the last minute.

It's quite simple..if you want to stay and play for ipswich then sign up..if you don't then you know where the door is..your loss.

we need to get real. If these players were any good we would be much closer to the play offs and genrally getting promoted. Clearly not good enough. If mac and dd were the best defenders in the championship why is it we have conceded so many stupid goals.Cant totally blame the full backs . There have been to many goals come through the middle of the park

if these players have any ambitions in the game they should sign there contracts now as if town and jp get there three or four players in in the summer i can see us having a very very good season coyb

Try finding a decent forward or 2 because we don't have any.

pj's right to put dead line on those who have been offered new contracts ,this is no time to bugger about ,we have to know now who's in and who's out.anyone who's going to try and hangout talks with their contract we can safely say isnt comitted
