Town Topic: The Greatest Derbies Thursday, 21st Apr 2011 08:18
Town face Norwich City at Portman Road this evening in one of the most eagerly anticipated East Anglian derbies for some while. But what are your favourite memories of previous games between the sides?

I am fairly sure that in 1978, before the FA Cup final (for any Norwich fans reading a proper cup) we played them at Portman Road. I can remember that it was an evening game and a cracking atmosphere as we were on the way to Wembley. I think we won something like 4-0 or perhaps 4-1.
Without doubt the 3-1 League Cup win at Carrow Road - Muhren, Thijssen etc. Whenever we lose to Norwich I always think back to that game - they might beat us now and again but they have never come near to matching the standard we were setting around that time........Up Yours Norfolk
The 5-0 mathie hattrick & petta brace but for me personally its gotta be the 2-1 win just a few years back at carrot rd jimmy juans deflected freekick & danny haynes' last min winner with his hand - nothing beats beating norwich in the last min but to be at the game n to see them budgies pissed off coz a goal was given when he clearly put it in with his arm was brilliant
Just gone into administration, away to the scum. Their fans taunting us with bank notes before the game. 90 minutes later after Fabian and Bent had scored, we were chanting: "We're skint and we've beaten you!"
Good times. Also losing a new trainer after Mathies first in the 5-0 win. Didn't find it til the end of the game. Worth having a dirty cold foot for.
December 92,sitting in the Barclays after buying a ticket in a Narwichhh pub,Thompson 2-0 and I jump up,scum fans leaving in droves. Bloke I bought ticket from shouting abuse at me. On Sky. What a feeling.
"...most eagerly anticipated East Anglian derbies for some while..." that would be since the last one - reminds me of the David Mitchell sketch - "this will be the greatest game ever... till next weeks game"
Aware you've got to write something, but... B- must try harder!
Now to prepare for the biggest game in footballing history - whoops, sorry! lol
nearly50yearsblue.... i had an almost identical experience to you for that game in Dec '92.. I was sitting in the Barclay Upper with a mate after buying 2 tickets off a Nobitch scummer in the pub (Ferryboat Inn?) before the game. Had to pretend we were a couple of yellow inbreeds to convince the Nobitch fan to flog us the tickets which I'm not proud of, but we were desperate to get in. Thompson scores, 1-0!!, we jump up. It was obvious we weren't the only Town boys in there with pockets of Town fans celebrating all over the Barclays Upper. As you can imagine a few 'brave' scum approached the stewards to get us chucked out. The stewards called a load of police who rounded up as many Town fans as they could find to throw us out. There must've been around 50 of us and there were a few of the old Ipswich Punishment Squad among us who told the old Bill they'd go and trash the city centre if we were thrown out. The police took us back to our seats and told us to behave! What a day out. Not only my fave derby game but possibly my fave Town game ever.
sudburyblue16 Quality night, not many like that anymore. In the pub beforehand and the police asked us to stay in there for the sake of the Scummers if I recall.
i always remember my first - the simod cup game at portman road (1988 i think). Simon Milton scores the winner late in extra time and Robert Rosario missed a sitter straight after town scoring.
Any win is magic but the 5-0 destruction derby takes some beating! I'd been up all the fri night raving(gd old days) work on sat morning an only made it to the ground with 5 mins spare, lets just say the next 90 mins got rid of any comedown that day!!!!
Kropotkin123, thanks for that video! It brought a lot of good memories back... and looking at the players back there makes me feel PJ needs to do a great job during the summer so that we can push for promotion next season!
Agree with GraigForrestGateau, the 2-0 back in 2003 at Carrot Road. I wasn't even there, I was in Kuwait just before we went over the border into Iraq. Managed to hear the result on some old crackly radio from the world service. made my war that result.
