Bullard: It Didn't Feel Like a 5-1
Bullard: It Didn't Feel Like a 5-1
Friday, 22nd Apr 2011 15:00

Goalscorer Jimmy Bullard says last night’s heavy defeat to Norwich City didn’t feel like a match destined to end 5-1 with the Blues having plenty of possession. Despite last night's loss, the on-loan Hull City man remains confident that Portman Road will still be a good place to be next season.

Bullard said: “It did not feel like a 5-1 as we had plenty of possession and our night was summed up when we pulled back to 3-1, had a corner and then saw Norwich break to score a fourth goal.

“To be fair we were going forward at the end and leaving just two players back, but it was the first two goals that really killed us. We came out flying second half, but could not get back into the game.

“We were beaten by a better team, and sport is like that sometimes — it kicks you in the teeth.

“We put in a good shift but Norwich played exceptionally well and they finished their chances expertly.”

The 32-year-old said he felt for the close-to-sell-out crowd: “I feel sorry for our fans as they were terrific and I’ve never played in a derby game that had so much atmosphere.

“It surprised me how intense the atmosphere was having played in a Fulham versus Chelsea game that is not in the same league as these East Anglian affairs.”

As for his future, the midfielder says he’s not yet talked to his parent club: “I haven’t spoken to Hull. There are a number of Ipswich players out of contract and they deserve to get sorted before thoughts turn to my position.

“But what I do know is that Ipswich is going to be a great place to be next season — despite last night’s woes.”

I am sorry Jimmy, but it was 5-1 whether it felt like it or not. The players may not care, but to the fans it's humiliating. Bullard played well, but I don't agree with his comments (written in the EADT) that 'we put in a decent shift' - other than Bullard, very few did.

We were awful end of story and reading between the lines, I doubt Jimmy will be here next season - sadly.

Don't agree with your comments that often jas0999 but you are spot on for this. Can't see him being here. Seemed pi$$ed off to me last night when he constantly had no winger to spray the ball out to and his shot came out of frustration at nobody else able to shoot on target and test the budgie keeper!

I love Jimmy Bullard. Not just a great guy but a bang tidy player aswell. By far our best player last night (not that he had much competition).

And i agree, it didn't feel like a 5-1. Lee Barratt had about 6 things to do and let in 5 goals. They were clinical and capitalised on our errors. Meanwhile we had little threat up top, same old story really. Technically and in terms of personnel we aren't a million miles away from being a top 6 team. Need a goalscorer to partner Wickham in a 4-4-2, a left back (natural left back) and to get Fulop back in the sticks and we wont be far off.

Jimmy, I love you to bits, but do yourself a favour and go play for a club that deserves your committment & passion because you are the only ITFC player that showed any desire last night. This club is going to go backwards further until it gets rid of all the premier league rejects that are after one last pay day and invests in some lower league talent with hunger ad desire to do well.

I can't even begin to put down how i feel and have done since last night, watching a bunch over over paid donkeys who had no interest in what the game meant to the fans.

How many journeymen do norwich have in their side ? - Their team in built up from lower league signings that are honoured to wear NCFC colours and have a close knit bond with the fans.

Jimmy aside (and he aint even our player!) not one of our players could give a sh*t about the humiliation of last night and i am sorry to single Connor Wickham out (as there was worse on show than him last night) but surely £15m rated strikers step up in the big games ?

I have never been so ashamed and embarrassed to be an Ipswich Town fan as I am right now, never felt so sort changed and depressed. Its a shame that the players that we have hear are only here for a pay cheque, because if they cared about our club then they'd share this feeling.

I hope Jewell get rid of ALL of Keano's signings and sign some young hungry talent from the lower leagues, it may mean another season of mediocrity next season but it will see us right sooner than trying to buy the type of experience that we have here at the minute, and lets face it, we're fast becoming used to less than average times at Portman Road since our relegation!

Jimmy. I fekt sorry for you mate. Dragging the side from midfield to attack all game... Even fell to his knees and looked genuinely gutted when they scored the fourth.

He was the only player on our side who looked as class as Norwich did and i think next season Mr Bullard will be in the premiership. Whether it be with a team like QPR or even as big a club like Newcastle. He is embarissingly good for us to keep atm.

What a guy

Bullard put the most effort into the game last night. and carlos played well as well. possesion was good but we just need a stronger defence and a decent striker up front with wickham, 4-5-1 does work, but scotland wasn't used to 4-5-1 at swansea, and he is not capable of being upfront by himself, man of the match was bullard. We were creating chances but once again, no one there to finish it.... drury played well when he came on, a shame about lee martin being banned for 3 games. could have done some use yesterday, embarrased to be honest, can't blame Jewell in anyway a couple of months ago we were fighting to stay in this league now we are safe thanks to Jewell.... this face it, norwich have a better team than us. Sign him up!!! whatever happens im ITID! <3

How do you kow the players don't share that feeling havinit69? If one of them came out and said 'sorry, we weren't good enough' etc. you would criticise them for being 'all talk' and you would say 'it's all well and good saying that now' whatever, but because they havn't yet you claim they don't care.

havinit69 added 16:06 - Apr 22
Garv, my opinion is based on their performances in BOTH derbies this season and you are right, I dont want them to apologise, I want to see some passion and desire ON the pitch, not from their mouths!!!!

Its an opinion and you are entitled to disagree, but you'd be one of the first to do so !

Garv added 16:56 - Apr 22
But how can you say they don't care, because they weren't good enough on the pitch? That doesn't mean they wanted to win any less. Norwich were simply too good for us. We did not play as badly as some are making out, and I know that sounds stupid but its true.

Tbh we had the possession but again we do nothing with it. We have too slow a tempo and take to much time on the ball. Bullard is the only one who recieved the ball and looks to get it forward and wide quickly. I would be very surprised if jimmy stays next season.

Could have been 10-0 without JB.

Apart from the 5 that went in how many saves did AB have to make probably 2 or 3. Norwich were clinical when they had a chance, that was the difference between the sides. (and the two goalkeeping errors and an own goal). Take heart IT fans all is not lost, the sun is shining, we are alive and we have the summer to enjoy.

Sad to see the morons who call themselves fans chanting obscenities to anyone in a yellow shirt, including children, as they approached the ground before the game. Get a life.

It's alright Jimmy, if they played last night and their out of contract - good. They don't deserve a penny after last nights disgraceful performance.

Yours is the only contract worth bothering with - the rest of them weren't fit to wear the shirt.

And still the wait goes on a for a captain's apology. Shambolic

Think majority of fans would agree PJ has got some dead wood to dispose of and start building up a team again. Doubt he can do that in 1 summer not with our record of not quite signing players. think were looking at 2/3 season before were good enough to go up .. if we are patient enough to let PJ do his job.

Well Jimmy, the good play results in?

Shots at goal that are off-target.

Endlessly. In the mould of Leadbitter.

So, yes, the play is pretty good, the finishing/last quarter of the field has not yet been sorted out.

Garv, maybe 'cared' was wrong choice of word, the point I'm trying to make is that when they wake up this morning, I bet they won't feel like I did and 27,000 other fans for that matter! The Norwich players were way more up for it, where as I got the impression that in both derbies it was just another game for our boys. Norwich are streets ahead of us in all areas, we could learn plenty from their recent achievements.

Here we go again people going over top, I will never be ashamed of supporting ITFC, they are my club and if they lose, even to Norwich, I am still supporting a club to be proud of. We may be down but we are not out.
To all those who haven't realised that supporting this club means bad as well as good times, whose glass is always half empty never half full, get over yourselves and get a life.

50yearsablue.Why not blame sheepshanks. We are running out of peaple to blame arent we. If this is true that the players put 100% effort in then it does really prove how bad we are.The way an apparant fat slow grant holt ripped dd and mac apart is beyound beleave. So if your are correct with your jugment then go on give um contracts. Ok dd has signed.Shame it wasnt longer. If Sir Bobby or Sir Alf had witnessed either last night or whats happened this season they would have been sick to the core.Only Bullard can be excused for his effort.Could excuse Wickham and Carson aswell due to their age.The rest can go and do 1
