McCall Watches Leyton Orient-Peterborough
McCall Watches Leyton Orient-Peterborough
Friday, 22nd Apr 2011 22:06

Blues chief scout Steve McCall was spotted at Brisbane Road this afternoon watching Leyton Orient beat Peterborough United 2-1.

Town boss Paul Jewell was previously seen running the rule over Posh a day after being confirmed as manager at Portman Road in January.

Peterborough striker Craig Mackail-Smith and midfielder George Boyd were the most likely targets, while keeper Joe Lewis has also been linked with a switch to a higher division.

Either 3 of them i would take, Lewis is very underated, Boyd is a very wide player and we need that, and id love to snatch Mackail-Smith from the scum, but hes also a great goalscorer aswell!

Would love ethier Mackail-smith or boyd. Mackail-Smith sure knows where the net is as well . its great reading that scouts and jewell are looking around for gems in lower league . Premiership dropouts arent the way forward . maybe 1 or 2 experienced older players would be good in the summer but would like to see 3 players come in from league 1 as there out there u just gotta find them and i think we have a manager who can do this .

M-S and Boyd would fit the bill. Lewis is also top drawer. Would poss cost £6-7m the lot, that's all. that's a lot of money for the spine of a team which was relegated from the Champs last season.

Yep - all three would do very nicely. Personally, I believe Lewis is a great keeper and miles better than ALB.

Craig Mackail-Smith would be a preferred option though - a goal scorer. Must sign at least two strikers so PJ can at last play two up at home.

...over the odds for him and JL - you could get better for less I think because he will cost a fair whack I reckon.

Work in Peterborough so know lots of posh fans
they say Lewis makes far too many mistakes and blame him for their poor run at the moment and feel they need a new keeper
Boyd blows hot and cold but on his day can be un playable
Mac Smith they say is class and can't believe he is still a Posh player
They say he would have gone to Norwich except they would not pay the £3 million that Posh wanted

Any good orient players?

If norwich go up they may think its a big risk taking a player up two leagues especially for three million, no let him take us up as they come down next season:)

@J4ck22 - granted I haven't seen alot of him but the games of seen on sky he has made absolute howlers,Bournemouth & Huddersfield come to mind. I'm not saying that he isn't good, I'm just saying that when i've seen him he was very poor.

Yep, one or two O's player's are getting better under the guidance of top manger Russel Slade. What he has done with that team this year is remarkable. Young Harry Kane ,on loan from Spurs, is one to look for in the future. But I'm not sure that any other's would fit bill at Town atm. But a good team to watch these day's. You never know what's gonna happen! But MS from Posh would be the only one from the game on Friday. I don't think anyone had the class needed for "holding mid-fielder" the PJ need's. Any way, I though we had Luke Hyam? What did he do wrong at the beginning of the season? One of Town's best player's at that time and when Town's form was good-ish. Use him again now PJ!

I too was at that game yesterday. Smith looks great, boyd was average at best! Orients two wing backs Eliiot Omuzusi(not sure if spelt correctly) and Charlie Daniels are quality though. Hope they were noticed also by McCall

I hope Lee Tomlin was also watched. One of the best players Peterborough have, but the one nobody seems to mention in the press

Very much doubt Mackail Smith is a target, particularly if the scum go up, we would be priced out of a deal

This is the ONLY good news I've heard from Town in this whole season!!!

I live near P'boro and so go to watch them as often as I can.

I went last Saturday to see what was probably the BEST game of live football I've seen in years.

Boro were 1-0 down but turned it all around at half-time. Smith is, quite simply, one of the most amazing strikers I've seen (at this level anyway). He has extraordinary pace, can hold the ball up, can turn on a dime and ALWAYS looks dangerous.

Boyd is a bit more hit-and-miss to be honest but overall is a fine player with huge vision and the ability to take people on, track back and put in a great cross - he'll score as well.

Lewis is a total gem - tall and imposing, calm, sure and was motm on Saturday and not just because of his penalty save in the closing seconds to secure the win! He made three literally World Class saves in the game - breath-taking!

I love Ipswich through and through - always have, always will but deep down two thoughts come to mind about these three players:

1) Why on earth would they want to come to Town when they're already gunning for the Championship and playing exciting, thrusting, crowd-pleasing football?

2) I kinda don't want players like this with such HUGE potential coming to a crushed and rudderless Town and thereby wasting their talent in a soul-destroying 4-5-1 formation AT HOME!!!

I know I'll probably get criticised for these comments - I am just being honest about my feelings about my beloved Town.

These aren't very inspiring days are they?

It hurts me to write it - but I think that we all know it's true deep down...

Would ony want Mackail-Smith. Lewis has really gone off the boil over the past two months - one penalty save aside. Boyd has proved he cannot hack it in the Championship failing miserably at Forest. He has no great pace so don't think PJ will go for him. If Peterborough win the play offs it will be hard to get any of them as their asking price will be ludicrously high. PJ will get it right I'm sure.
