Hull: We've Had No Bullard Enquiries
Hull: We've Had No Bullard Enquiries
Monday, 16th May 2011 09:26

Hull City’s director of football operations Adam Pearson says the Tigers are yet to receive any enquiries regarding Town loanee Jimmy Bullard. Blues boss Paul Jewell recently said that he had spoken to his former Derby colleague about the 32-year-old Town Player of the Year and also that he understood that there was interest from other clubs.

Pearson is desperate to offload the two remaining years of Bullard’s £45,000-a-week contract, which accounts for 21% of his club’s wage bill, and is hoping that the midfielder’s performances for Town attract some interest: "He's obviously done well down at Ipswich, he's played some games and hopefully that gets him back in the shop window.

"Hopefully, we will get a club interested in him. That hasn't happened as yet. We've had no enquiries whatsoever."

Jewell, who worked under Pearson during their time together at Pride Park, recently said that he had spoken with the Hull chief and was under the impression that other sides, including Premier League clubs, had shown interest.

QPR have been linked on a number of occasions, while Wigan and West Ham were claimed to be amongst Bullard’s suitors in one paper, prior to the Hammers’ relegation on Sunday. One somewhat spurious looking report over the weekend claimed interest from Coventry.

Pearson also dismissed Bullard’s claim last week that he had taken a pay cut to join the Blues on loan in January: "His wages are obviously very, very high but no professional footballer takes a pay cut.

"I keep hearing about pay cuts but I've never heard of that in my life. I don't understand why a player would take a pay cut.

"He's got another two years and that has a value to it so I'm sure that any player wouldn't be leaving for a penny less."

Previously, Pearson was in disagreement with Town regarding the level of Bullard’s wages the Blues were paying during his time on loan.

Hull are reportedly willing to allow Bullard, who cost them £5 million from Fulham in May 2006, to move on for free if his new side take on what remains of his contract in its entirety. It's unlikely that any Championship club would be in a position to do this.

As reported last week, another loan is also an option, although Hull are likely to want to exhaust all other alternatives before looking in that direction.

Town would probably prefer to do a permanent deal with the Blues paying a fee which would go towards the Tigers settling the remaining two years of the one-time England call-up’s contract, something which could be a possibility if Bullard is, as he says, willing to take a pay cut.

Meanwhile, Exeter City are likely to be keeping a close eye on developments regarding the Blues’ chase for Doncaster midfielder James Coppinger.

When the 30-year-old joined Rovers from the Grecians for a fee which eventually rose to £35,000 in 2004, a 15% of profit sell-on clause was included in the deal.

Last Friday, Doncaster chairman John Ryan confirmed that his club had turned down Town's £300,000 offer for the midfielder and also a £2.3 million bid for striker Billy Sharp.

Coppinger was a team-mate of Blues coach Sean McCarthy during the early part of his career at St James’ Park.

If Clegg doesnt sort this or atleast make a decent attempt to sort this, he needs sacking. Hull can't afford to keep him, Jimmy wants to sign for Ipswich. Where is the problem? We should atleast be holding talks with Hull at this point.

BBC are reporting that Hull want to sign 6 or 7 players this summer and will have to let 6 or 7 go.

Bullard will leave the club if someone comes in for him

If Ipswich were to pay £1 Million for him, that would help Hull pay off his contract, if he was to be paid £20k a week on a 2 year contract, that would be a £3 Million contract

Yes Mr Evans, the payment on results approach is right, if it can stand up.
Hull can't keep him without significant penalty. They desperately want to dump his high salary and penalty clauses.
More than this, it seems that not many new players will be interested in joining a non-team, with only a couple of decent players. Jimmy Bullard is an attraction to any potential big man up front. Which we so need.
Without JB, we look pretty unattractive.

Very interesting - either Hull HAVE had contact from Town and they are looking for other suiters who willpay more. Or ITFC are saying they have been in contact in order to encourage the fans. Time will tell which one it is - as PJ has clearly stated he's been in contact with Hull. Someone is lying!

Mmmmm I'm hoping this is not the start of a negative summer once again. Probably the most important player to aim for and no real news. Shame massive shame, But if we want success we need to spend a little dough. Sign him up regardless of the cost. Made such an impact in a short space of time what could he do in two years time with us thats what we need to look at.

I think we need to gamble on this one and be patient. Wait until its clear there's no other interest and force hulls hand, either getting him on loan again or for something like 500k

If Adam Pearson says specifically 'we have had no enquiries about Jimmy', then we have had no enquiries and equally when he says he didn't take a pay cut, then he didn't.

There are suggestions that none of us really know the people involved and therefore can't say who can be trusted in all this, but that's not entirely true. I know Adam Pearson, I've also been out several times with Jimmy, both when he was living here and also out at his place in Vale do Lobo. Adam is as honest as the day is long and would not make a straight forward 'it didn't happen' statement unless it was 100% true.

Jimmy is a good laugh on a night out and he's definitely a decent footballer, but frankly, he's as thick as pigsh1t. He'd tell anyone anything he thought they wanted to hear, he just likes to be popular. He won't take a pay cut, at least not unless there's a big pay-off to make up the wage shortfall.

Our owners are very wealthy, this is not about what the club can afford, it's about removing a millstone from around our necks and putting the whole sorry saga behind us as painlessly as possible.

I think that even though Jimmy is 32, Marcus Evans should realise he would be a very good investment, whatever the cost (within reason)
You could argue that Roy Keanes appointment was partly made with a view to Evans wanting to put his brand across. ie whenever Roy would have a rant or controversial press conference, Marcus Evans' logo was everywhere to be seen.
Jimmy would be that new face, doing interviews etc and he would be considerably cheaper than Keane. He is also a nice fella, and would restore our media reputation of being a nice family club which Keane and to an extent Jim Magilton,
ruined. As a Town fan, I have hated how our reputation that has been built up over decades has been ruined in about 4 years.
He is also a fine player, and good around the dressing room, and stops Grant Leadbitter taking set pieces!
Come on Cleggy, get on the phone and lets get this one signed and sealed first, and then watch many more quality players now want to join our great club.

Jimmy has played his last game for us - these words are from the 'horse's mouth' - NO Club has yet enquired about Jimmy - that includes ITFC.

Same old summer bullsh#t - just to keep people interested .............

ericgates - excellent post, and you are spot on - but it won't happen.

A signing i.e Bullard early doors like now - would have an effect in attracting players to this Club. Getting on a bit, costly maybe, but the guy is influential in the dressing room and on the pitch, and players respect him.
What more does this sluggish Club want to start things rolling ??????
