Healy Signs Contract
Monday, 23rd May 2011 09:48

Midfielder Colin Healy has signed his new one-year deal at Portman Road. The former Ireland international indicated his intention to remain with the club prior to the final game of the season at Leicester and has now put pen to paper.

The 31-year-old, who joined the Blues from Cork City for £70,000 in the summer of 2009, recently underwent a hernia operation.

Great.. we need to improve our midfield urgently. Healy whilst some performances have been good - he is not the type of player that will push us towards the top of this division. But nevertheless, a hard worker.

cant really understand the delay as i cannot imagine he had a host of other offers. That said i am glad as he is a decent squad player who plays with more passion then others i could mention.

Don't really get why Healy gets so much stick, he's a decent player at this level. Got experience from his Sunderland days and seems happy enough warming the bench and coming in when required. Decent squad player and hasn't ever really let us down to be fair to him.

Bluelady :- Just guessing here, but Paul Jewell has been away [ don't know if he's back ] so perhaps they've waiting for his return ? Also, maybe this is why not much [ to say the least ] has taken place. Lots of time to sign the right people. Thought Healy, as stated is much improved from early on - glad he's signed.

I believe that that was the news that Danny Graham, Billy Sharp and Batistuta wanted prior to Clegg capturing them.

When he first joined he was well off the pace and slated left, right and centre as one of the worst players of recent times. From that low ebb, he's certainly improved and a useful player to have in the squad. However, he's 31 and hardly the player to get us higher up the league.

Healy has improved a great deal since PJ took over. Although not technically gifted, he reminds me alot like Charlie Adam when he was a championship player. He holds back which allows players like Lee Martin and Norris (when he was here) to push forward.

Never understood why he was criticised.
He cost us, what, 50k?

And for that we got a player who could fill in on occasions in the first team, as a useful sub, and with some experience.

To me, that justified his signing.

Since then, his performances in the second half of last season were actually pretty good on occasions and hes turned into a player that the manager can rely on to start a game.

Given that Garvan cost Palace 200k, Id say that 50k for Healy is probably Roy Keanes best bit of business.

Still underrated by some going by the comments above, lets not forget his performances overshadowed Norris at times last season. If we're going to mount any kind of challenge we need strength in depth and he has proved in the last 6 months that he has plenty to offer.

im sorry to say this fellow ipswich town fans but we wont get any decent signings while clegg is in charge of contracts lets face it we are looking at bottom of the table next season, marcus evans needs to step up and get rid of mr clegg,pj could get billy sharp down here for talks but clegg is so tight that his kids dont get any of his money

@blueflo?...pretty sure its ME's money and probably has nothing at all to do with clegg who gets given a budget and wage structure to stick too..to be fair, none of us knows what does and doesn't go on behind to scenes so pointless making stupid comments about clegg..

I for one am glad that Healy has stayed, his performance against arsenal worth his transfer fee alone

Good man Colin, we definately need you next season. With Norris gone and a good chance Jimmy wont be back we need all the midfield cover we can get. Plus Druary is a relative unknown at this level so its good to have Healy on board for next season.

I rate Drury higher that Healy - of course Healy has more experience, but i really think Drury will become a good player once more experience at this level has been gained.
