Brown Joins Summer Exodus
Brown Joins Summer Exodus
Monday, 30th May 2011 22:30

TWTD understands that defender Troy Brown has decided to leave the Blues with his contract up this summer, despite previously agreeing a new one-year deal at the club. The 20-year-old has received offers from a number of lower league sides with League Two Rotherham believed to be heading League One Leyton Orient for the former Fulham youngster’s signature.

Boss Paul Jewell recently revealed that the Welsh U21 international had agreed to sign the new one-year contract which was on offer at Portman Road, however, Brown appears to have had a change of heart prior to putting pen to paper.

A contract beyond a single season and the chance to play regular first team football are likely to be the reasons behind the decision to move on.

Despite the Londoner being below 24 years of age and having been offered a deal, Town are not entitled to compensation with the defender’s new contract thought to be on reduced terms, as was the case with Tom Eastman, who recently joined Colchester.

After being released by Fulham’s academy, Brown joined the Blues on trial in the summer of 2009, impressing first Jim Magilton and then Roy Keane before being offered a deal at Portman Road.

Having made his senior debut in the defeat to Sheffield United on the final day of the 2009/10 season, the centre-half or occasional right-back went on to make 10 starts and seven sub appearances while with Town.

I saw him play at Right back (Watford away) and his use of the ball on a very bad night was poor- definitely not a right back. At centre back he looked better (West Brom home?), but far from the finished article and I guess that there must be better players available.
Shame to see him and Eastman both leave in addition to McCauley- leaves us very thin on the ground, but I do not think that he is good enough.

Hope he finds a club and does well.

Disappointing - but what with all the reduced terms? What on earth were the club thinking? How many people on here would honestly be happy to receive reduced terms in their job? Utter madness.

It's worrying that so many players are walking away from the club. We now have to bring in at least TWO if not THREE centre backs. McAuley, Eastman and now Brown have left - O'Dea is back with Celtic. Is there a wider issue at ITFC?

In any event all the best toTroy - I thought he showed potential.

I note that some posts here think that this decision reflects on Troy's lack of ambition or self confidence.

Perhaps that only being offered a one year contract at reduced terms, he thinks that the club have no confidence in him. Clearly his agent has gone touting for clubs that appreciate his worth and he wants to go somewhere where he feels welcome.

Eastman and Brown gone, now lets get rid of O'Connor, Hyam, Peters, Carson, Wickham - too young, too rubbish, with no chance of improvement.

Bin the academy, sell it for £1 million and buy Nigel Quashie.

Jewell Out, Kiwomya In!

Well said Bergholt, I wish the lad luck and fear for the future of the club when we can't seem to hang on to talented youngsters. They have always been the base of our good sides over the years,

East Anglian states that Simon Clegg says Paul Jewell was too busy on Ipswich business to attend last nights 30th celebration , lets hope the 1st of our many signings appears today , we will soon know whether Marcus Evans is serious about running a football club or not , especially as he was supposed to be in Ipswich last night , Jewell, Clegg and Evans all in Ipswich together come on boys get it together !

Has he left because hes been told were bringing in another cb? I liked brown, he had the potential to be a first team championship defender, like another ashley williams.
Best of luck to you, i think you are better than league 2.

Tommy Smith for free anyone? He played in the world cup but hes only 20 or something.
He's too young and too cheap for ITFC's promotion campaign ending with champagne in 2012.
Paul Jewell wants Chris Morgan and Guy Branston in centre half next year with Richard Rufus champing at the bit - we're going up we're going up its ipswich

perfect sense reduce the number of average players on the wage bill to fund higher wages for fewer players of better quality then supplement with youngsters get away from the journeymen mentality.

Another good prospect gone, why do Town offer Brown and Eastman less money and then expect them to sign it, when clearly we are short of Centre Backs and will have to pay good money (wages and probably fee) to get anyone half decent anyway!

Worth more than a year for me, another mistake by the club. I have a feeling that in a few years he'll be a player we wished we had never let get away.

we have left the ressie league so no point in paying players that will never get on the pitch

Comments such as ' players come and players go ' are correct when players do come , but with us it is ' players do not come but players go !! ' , we need players like Troy for the future of the club ! When will the top layer learn that football is not like other businesses and needs experience of football to run a club with a chance of success !!!

Only two (left sided) central defenders at the club. One who is really mixing his performances and one who never got a game under Jewell...

Troy gone so we probably need two new faces. Please no loans.

Bit surprising but not to dismayed..we'll need better if we want to get in the play-offs.

Sadly,3 weeks now since the season finished and still no sign of any new signings..hope we get what PJ needs in before the pre-season begins rather than last minute shambles at the end of august as per usual.
