Brown Joins Summer Exodus
Brown Joins Summer Exodus
Monday, 30th May 2011 22:30

TWTD understands that defender Troy Brown has decided to leave the Blues with his contract up this summer, despite previously agreeing a new one-year deal at the club. The 20-year-old has received offers from a number of lower league sides with League Two Rotherham believed to be heading League One Leyton Orient for the former Fulham youngster’s signature.

Boss Paul Jewell recently revealed that the Welsh U21 international had agreed to sign the new one-year contract which was on offer at Portman Road, however, Brown appears to have had a change of heart prior to putting pen to paper.

A contract beyond a single season and the chance to play regular first team football are likely to be the reasons behind the decision to move on.

Despite the Londoner being below 24 years of age and having been offered a deal, Town are not entitled to compensation with the defender’s new contract thought to be on reduced terms, as was the case with Tom Eastman, who recently joined Colchester.

After being released by Fulham’s academy, Brown joined the Blues on trial in the summer of 2009, impressing first Jim Magilton and then Roy Keane before being offered a deal at Portman Road.

Having made his senior debut in the defeat to Sheffield United on the final day of the 2009/10 season, the centre-half or occasional right-back went on to make 10 starts and seven sub appearances while with Town.

Good luck for the future to Troy. Thought he looked mature in his play and one to bring on in the squad. Oh, well, have trust in PJ of course, but would like to see some actual signings. Read over the last 3 weeks that we were well ahead of possible rivals for players and that signings were close. Maybe most managers & players take their holidays now. Feeling anxious though.

Exodus = "mass departure" and it seems to be one-way traffic at the moment. I wonder when the influx starts (or whatever the opposite word is)? I don't actually think it's surprising we haven't got anyone in yet, as it's obviously a mass of intrigue out there with everyone playing a waiting game, but I hope we're not in the same situation when I arrive in Holland on July 12th, full of expectation. If it is, then I WILL begin to be worried.

From a quick skim of Sky Sports transfer news page (Championship clubs only):

During the month of May, 7 signings were reported (four of whom were already on loan at their new club, plus one youth and one free).

During the month of May, 45 players were reported as being released or deciding to leave at the end of their contracts. This probably does not include all the youth/academy players released across the Championship, as they won't be well enough known to merit a report on Sky Sports.

Which has been the more active field in May - players leaving or players arriving?

Offering payers reduced wages and offering only 2yr deals for norris/mccauley seems to mean that ipswich are cutting the wage bill and have a structure. this is all very well but players will then always look for a better deal. It is worrying that norris/ mac have left and that young talent is also choosing to leave. It is also worrying that ipswich struggle to get good players in, a problem thats been with us for a few years and with a wage structure in place may cont.

What is going on? Everyday I look on this site and the Greenun site hoping that we have signed someone. It is very frustrating and very disappointing. Is anyone prepared to sign for Ipswich? There appeared to be hope at the end of last week . . . but no news again today. I don't want to join the growing group of Clegg knockers, but this situation just seems to be going from bad to worse.

I think oddball is right. The powers that be at ITFC seem to be obsessed with wage structure and don't give a monkeys about getting some quality players in!!

this worries me. for years we've all said how come we dont attract players any more.it looks to me that when football goes through change there are clubs that will suffer for it .we seem to have lost faith in the way we bring players through.when robson was in charge the larger part of the team were brought through the ranks.football isnt that patient any more.its get to the premier.then when you get there chances are youll get a butt kicking and have to forgo your teams football only policy and end up playing like wimbledon(cold shiver!!)i personaly hope pj has a plan to strengthen the squad or we could be candidates to go down

From a search through the TWTD news archive looking for stories containing the words "signed", "signing" or "signs" in the month of May for every year from 2001 to 2010:

Do you know how many new players TWTD has reported Town having signed from outside the club in May over the last 10 years? Two.

Not two per year, two in total. De Vos, in 2004, and Counago, in 2001. That's it. All other signings have taken place later in the summer.

So the people who claim we're doing so badly this year compared to previous summers (and "it's all Clegg's fault") frankly don't know what they're talking about.

....... disgusted, disgusted, disgusted, and so should every supporter be - yet ANOTHER player decides Portman Road is not for him anymore.
Cannot say I blame them at all - DIABOLICAL state for this once famous club to be in. Last one out, turn the light's off please - that's how dire this whole situation is becoming. SHAMEFUL - and no apologies for saying so.

........ and yet idiots still keep talking about 'the players coming in' ....... Where the h#ll are they coming from ??????? - Players consistently want to leave the Club, and are doing so wholesale - very few, if any want to come here. Should be telling you all something I would think. !!!

I agree with the above.....All we hear is spin and rumours!
We need at least 5 players just to compete for a long season let alone make the top half!!

h32:

Of the 13 players who've left (thanks for the list, Smithy), only two (McAuley & Norris) or maybe three (if you include Murphy) were first-team regulars. The rest were our ex-es (e.g. Lisbie, Counago) or those of the youth not considered by our coaching staff to justify a long-term contract (and it's by no means all - we still have several young players on the books).

Town are not the only Championship club to be shedding quantities of players. Portsmouth have already got rid of 10, Milwall 7, Cardiff and Barnsley 6 - and we know nothing of their youth set-up.

And where are our new players coming from? Same places as everyone else's, once the transfer market really gets under way.

Please can everyone stop the panic no clubs want to pay players wages when there is no real income to August.I said at the season they could all leave apart from maybe Wickham and Carson (potential) this bunch of players have being poor hence where we have being in the league last 2 seasons lets give Paul Jewell the time to get the players he wants then judge,On a lighter note who watched the champions league on itv Roy Keane was asked how to beat Barcelona lol he could'nt pick a side to beat Plymouth ,Peterboro and last season Barnsley

This has the feeling that club are really reducing outgoings.Have never heard of clubs offering less for new contracts.Looks like Evans is preparing for Div 1,or to cut his losses at the moment,as PJ was talking about increasing squad at one stage.Unless significant signings are made within next month or so will struggle to field a side capable of cutting it in Championship.

h32:

As I pointed out further up, there have so far been only seven signings by Championship clubs, more than half of whom were already on loan to their new clubs (three all at the same place, Derby). Would you say the transfer market IS fully underway already, based on that figure? If yes, why do Sky Sports (and others) bother with "live transfer watch" pages? They'd only need updating twice a week, at most!

Sorry to see him go because I think that he will eventually make the grade. It would have been better to give him a 2 year deal but send him out on loan for the first year. The lack of a proper reserve team competion does not help the situation.

So that's another allowed to go for nothing ... and another one who see's no future here. But at least we have coming in .... oh!

Good luck Troy, hope everything works out for you. Maybe we'll see you appearing against us in League 1 next season?

Thirty five years ive followed town and in all that time have never felt so fed up being a supporter of this club. i cant remember the last time we had some good news (apart from the keane sacking) and it seems no one wants to play for us these days. This is what happens when non footballing people take over and rip the heart out of a football club. Shocking!!!

I can't disagree more with those who says he's not good enough or he'll free up some cash for better players. The thing is that we would need to pay quite a decent transfer/sign-on fee in order to replace Troy. The budget is still the same, but now we need another player within the same budget. In hensight to our luck in the transfer market lately, we might stuggle to get hold of those so called "top class championship players". I guess his wage were pretty low already, and then offering him lesser terms... Can't blame him for not signing. I guess we all would have done the same if our employer did the same to us.

Troy, you're a smashing lad! Keep the faith in your own abillity and give it 100% in every session, and you'll find yourself back in Championship/Premier League sooner rather

Guthrum. You are spot on. I must be one of the idiots to whom h32 refers, but i see no evidence of any other clubs buying up players here there & everywhere. Most players/ chairmen/managers have holidays at the end of the season, which incidently only officially finished yesterday. Young Troy may well not be as good as some people on here seem to think, the coaching staff see him in training all week & just perhaps their judgement is a little better than ours. There will be some irons in the fire already but signing any player just to appease the less patient amongst you will do our club more harm than good, or should, as some of you suggest pay over inflated wages & even larger transfer fees to "supposed big names". As history shows, this will NOT guarantee success.
