Brown Joins Summer Exodus
Brown Joins Summer Exodus
Monday, 30th May 2011 22:30

TWTD understands that defender Troy Brown has decided to leave the Blues with his contract up this summer, despite previously agreeing a new one-year deal at the club. The 20-year-old has received offers from a number of lower league sides with League Two Rotherham believed to be heading League One Leyton Orient for the former Fulham youngster’s signature.

Boss Paul Jewell recently revealed that the Welsh U21 international had agreed to sign the new one-year contract which was on offer at Portman Road, however, Brown appears to have had a change of heart prior to putting pen to paper.

A contract beyond a single season and the chance to play regular first team football are likely to be the reasons behind the decision to move on.

Despite the Londoner being below 24 years of age and having been offered a deal, Town are not entitled to compensation with the defender’s new contract thought to be on reduced terms, as was the case with Tom Eastman, who recently joined Colchester.

After being released by Fulham’s academy, Brown joined the Blues on trial in the summer of 2009, impressing first Jim Magilton and then Roy Keane before being offered a deal at Portman Road.

Having made his senior debut in the defeat to Sheffield United on the final day of the 2009/10 season, the centre-half or occasional right-back went on to make 10 starts and seven sub appearances while with Town.

As it stands it is difficult to name a Town team, let alone one of sufficient quality to progress as we all want.

Whilst remaining hopeful that Paul Jewell will assemble a competitive squad before the season starts it is a bit optimistic to see success next season. Looks like a 2/3 year task.

I admire a guy who likes a challenge and by god PJ has a challenge. This club is going nowhere until we have real football people back at the helm. I truly cant think of one player that we would miss if they joined the rest of the ex town players.

HobrookBlue. A 2 year task is what our manager signed up to in the first place & said as much when he arrived. Whilst i would love it if promotion was achieved earlier, it takes time to assemble a team. Paul Jewell inherited a squad of players that was just not good enough, he will rebuild as he sees fit in the coming weeks & months & has been successful in this twice before. Lets all just be a little patient, stop pushing the panic button & see what unfolds.

No issue - too short to play CB effectively in Championship - Good luck to him at Rotherham or wherever....

..... a few seasons back youngsters like Troy Brown wouldn't have even remotely considered leaving this Club for the likes of Rotherham, Leyton Orient, etc; ...
Shows just how dramatically and quickly a Club can lose it's credibility and attraction in the Football world. Just where will it end ? - who knows ?

Guthrum - point taken - but the point I make is:- Where are ALL the new signings now required at this Club coming from ? - surely the evidence is there that we cannot currently attract more than, at best, 'shop window' loanees.
I am not at all convinced that we stand a chance of bringing the quality of player in that we are DESPERATELY in need of. And we don't just need ONE - even that would be a potential problem. Very soon everyone will see this is the case.
Genuinely hope that someone will be able to come on here and prove me wrong - but you wouldn't have to do that, I would have already been on and gladly admitted it. And be pleased to do just that.
I think our beloved Club is in a downward spiral - and that is seriously worrying as it gathers speed, and I do not think the people running the Club, are capable of stopping it.

h32:

Where we'd get as many players as most on here seem to think we'll need (8? 9? 10 new players?) is indeed a tricky question. That's why I consider Paul Jewell will need a year or two to build/develop a decent team, rather than vaulting straight into the Premiership by May 2012. But I'm happy with that - I'd rather we arrived in the top tier, if and when we do, prepared and strong enough to remain there rather than falling straight back down again a la Blackpool.

And I wouldn't describe things as a "downward spiral", "gathering speed" - more "stagnating mid-table in the Championship". After all, apart from Magilton's last two seasons (8th and 9th), Town have finished between 13th and 15th place every season since Joe Royle got us into the playoffs in 2005.
