Swansea's Promotion Good News for Town
Swansea's Promotion Good News for Town

Swansea’s promotion to the Premier League via their 4-2 Wembley victory over Reading on Monday will see the Blues’ coffers swelled by more than £100,000 via a clause in Tamás Priskin’s loan deal.

The Hungarian international joined the Swans on loan until the end of the season in March and despite the 24-year-old picking up a knee injury which ruled him out of the play-offs, the Welsh club’s elevation to the top flight for the first time since 1983 has triggered a £160,000 payment to Town.

After Swansea had beaten the Blues towards the end of the season, Swans boss Brendan Rodgers said he had been pleased with Priskin’s performances and didn't rule out making his move a permanent one, however, their promotion probably makes this less likely.

Meanwhile, Town continue to be linked with a £1 million move for Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra as part of a summer cost-cutting exercise in the wake of the Bluebirds' failure to reach the Premier League.

DiamondGezzer - that's obviously why Brendan Rodgers rates him so highly - and remember hasn't Brendan just got his team promoted to the Premiership !!! - based on that, sounds a pretty good judge of a player to me.

radiogaga - spot on - most of Priskin's games he has played for us he has had no support, or service, as you state.
Ask any Striker who plays alone how difficult it is to impress -yes, admittedly he has missed chances, but show me a Striker who hasn't.
And most have the luxury of far more support than he has had - pair him up front with the right player and he would be more than worthy of his place.
Over to a good Manager to do the rest in terms of workrate required from him.

radiogaga - I think you are deliberately missing the point with Priskin - I would hope it goes without saying every true blue loved his goal against Arsenal but one goal in a meaningless competition isn't enough. The average fan wants to see a player who is interested and puts in some effort. Priskin doesn't do that - he moves at the speed of Berbatov but without the ability to score goals.

carsey - so if Ipswich made the carling cup final, you wouldn't have gone then? After all, it is a "meaningless competition" that Portman Road sold out weeks in advance to watch Ipswich play in back in January that night...

Obviously didn't watch much of ITFC last season because if you did, you would have seen he was one of a rare breed last season - a Town player who gave 100% and also looked a goalscoring threat.
