Norwich Linked With Bullard Bid
Norwich Linked With Bullard Bid
Wednesday, 1st Jun 2011 09:08

Norwich are set to make a £1.5 million offer for Town loanee Jimmy Bullard, according to a number of this morning’s tabloids. Bullard is said to have issued a ‘come and get me plea’, although the quotes attributed to the Hull City midfielder are the comments he made on Saturday’s Soccer AM taken out of context.

Bullard enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell with the Blues during the final few months of the season, winning the club’s Player of the Year award.

Town are keen to sign the 32-year-old on a permanent basis but with two years remaining on his £45,000-a-week contract at the KC Stadium, manager Paul Jewell has admitted that it would be a difficult deal for the club to do.

Premier League QPR, Wigan and more recently Norwich have also been linked, along with newly-relegated West Ham.

Meanwhile, Premier League Wolves are the latest club to be linked with Town target Keiren Westwood with the Irish international keeper set to leave Coventry on a free transfer this summer. Leicester, Celtic, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Everton are also reported to be eyeing the former Carlisle man.

Never felt so pessimistic about a new season before. I don't quite understand how, but we've gone backwards since ME and his millions.

You are so right cornishnick! i dont know it has happened but since Joe Royle left we have been going downhill a bit each season!

This doesn't add up. JB won't be earning less than 45k per week next year. I can't see anyone paying him that except Hull, who have to.

maybe Jimmy bullard didnt tell any lies about taking a big cut as he loved it here
maybe its still on and we will see him next season lets hope so.

The latest comments just about sum it up. Since Joe Royle left we have been unable to attract quality players that can make an impact. Some reasonable bit players that Marcus Evans has been persuaded to purchase.

The transfer window has just opened. We should all take a step back and wait to see what, if any, players are actually signed.

It might be a valid point to challenge the club re season tickets renewal dates next year though because we had no idea of the make up of the squad when we handed over our money. Some clubs renewal date is much later than ours.

Personally I wouldn't blame Bullard for 'leaving' Town and going to play in the Premiership for anyone, be that Norwich or otherwise. It's not like he's been at Town for 10 years and should be regarded as a traitor for doing so. Given the state of our squad, it'd have been a miracle for him to stay with us anyway. Him not signing will make it even more difficult for us to attract quality players. Next season was always going to be (another) consoldiation season anyway. Get a few high-class Championship-level players in, not necessarily potential Prem players, and then build a solid foundation to then get some potential Prem players in next year.

Nor am I remotely surprised that Hull are hanging on to see if they can get some money for him. If they know from day 1 that Town would be willing to take him on a free (thus saving them £4.5 million), then why not wait until the start of the season to see whether or not someone else would be willing to slip them 1-2 million on top of that? If not, then send him off to Town.

Morning all - like most now getting fed up of hearing about who we are linked with and whose linked with our players etc. If we all accepted that PJ knew what he was doing when he first came here, there is no reason to suspect he now doesn't. He has clearly stated that he is involved in the transfers and doesn't stand back and let Clegg do all the talking - so no good blaming it all on Clegg (if indeed there's anything to blame at the moment). I am certain that PJ is working furiously in the background to get the players he wants and its only supporters desire to get the early fix which is getting people edgy and frustrated. The season only offically ended yesteday - the papers havern't got much to report on so the rumour mill will be griding even faster. I would like to see players in now but I honestly think we need a little patience - the clubs are dealing with players, their families, everything and how many of us would move halfway around the country uprooting kids from school etc etc without giving it serious thoguht before committing.

Nicely put Dave, anyone would think the season kicks off this Saturday!
I for one will not be concerned about the quality or size of the squad for a while yet. Jewell will no doubt be very busy trying to attract players to Portman Road.
Step outside of the box for just a moment and all the doubters will realise that this is a great club to play for and I'm sure Jewell can relay this to potential transfer targets. Oh and if Bullard signs for us then great if not then best of luck to him elsewhere.

Bullard will of course not join. And please, enough about Gio! He can play in every top-league in the world. Why on earth would he play for us?!?!!?

Spend time and money on St Ledger and Treacy. And then on another CB, CM, CM, S. And perhaps a couple of FB? Oh my, we ARE doomed...

No need to panic just yet although like many others I get frustrated about all these names being branded around when there is probably nothing in it. PJ will I am sure get the right people in even it is from the lower divisions. We need a few young hungry players who really want to play for the Club not players who are too money orientated. Lets not forget many contracts run until 30th June so players are not in too much of a hurry to move at the moment. Many will be on holidays so I think the transfer market will warm up in due course and PJ will have a decent squad come kick off on August 6th. Make no mistake though our division will be very tough indeed so I'm not optimistic about play offs etc. but who knows in football.

I think, less moaning and more patience. Have any of you ever tried to do what PJ etc are trying to do? Do you have any idea how hard it is to get players in? Are any of you chairman or manager of a championship football club? You are fans, you know nothing for definite until players are signed and when that happens that's all you know. Start supporting your club and your manager and stop moaning about it. If you don't love your club, you wouldn't care anyway.

If we could pay each of our transfer targets £100K a week, Paul Jewell would have an easier job with player recruitment.

The budgets are clearly the biggest obstacle to signing players, not whether they will play for this manager or that football club or fancy living in a particular town or city.

We all need to grow up and accept it.

What do u mean we don't need Bullard, we can get another creative midfielder, yes we do need him and no we couldnt get anyone else like him. You voted him player of the year, class like his is incredibly difficult to find/replace, he made a huge difference. This is bad news and ipswich are not willing to pay big wages, were on a wage structure, mid table next season. ME is a business man full stop.

Spot on Mutters, wonder how all those who voted him player of the season (he was only here 4 months) are feeling now.
He was NEVER going to remain here.

I think we should all be worried about the lack of transfer activity - Lets face it this situation has been going on for a very long time : Keano expected new faces in that never materialised and it looks like the same is happening again with PJ. And I think i'm right in saying it was PJ who said he wanted to get his business done early - Well that hasn't happened and the only activity has been out !!! Even the budgies have made signings !!!

We are being promised things that never happen hence the general doom and gloom around the place. So to stop this please just get deals done, keep them out of the media and then tell us about them please.

BTW when were you last excited by a ITFC signing ?????? I cant remember so please help

To add to the gloomy outlook, what about the players with 1 year left on their contracts? Are we thinking of offering them a new deal or are we going to watch them walk away this time next year once again? Clegg did say he/ME didn't regret anything regarding Norris & McAuley, so maybe we'll just do the same again.

Karlos - you are so right. We need at least one centre back if not two, a right back and we still have not got a striker who can score goals. Why are we worrying if JB signs or not. If JB is the only deal we do this summer we are still up sh*t creek without a paddle.

I am not worried that JB hasn't signed for us yet, but I am concerned that we haven't got anybody yet and all our so called targets look to be going elsehwere. I notice that we seem to be off loading palyers and I wonderhow much PJ has to reduce the wage bill before he is allowed to recruit. Perhaps also, we need to see how much we get for CW before we know how much we can spend.

Holbrook - you make a good point too. If we all ignored the early bird deadline, the club would be panicked into extending it anyway.

Sonian - I voted for JB as player of the season because I wanted the management to know that I appreciated a talented palyer, something that has been lacking in the side for many a year. Who else could I have voted for? Macca? Who has walked away anyway.
