Norwich Linked With Bullard Bid
Norwich Linked With Bullard Bid
Wednesday, 1st Jun 2011 09:08

Norwich are set to make a £1.5 million offer for Town loanee Jimmy Bullard, according to a number of this morning’s tabloids. Bullard is said to have issued a ‘come and get me plea’, although the quotes attributed to the Hull City midfielder are the comments he made on Saturday’s Soccer AM taken out of context.

Bullard enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell with the Blues during the final few months of the season, winning the club’s Player of the Year award.

Town are keen to sign the 32-year-old on a permanent basis but with two years remaining on his £45,000-a-week contract at the KC Stadium, manager Paul Jewell has admitted that it would be a difficult deal for the club to do.

Premier League QPR, Wigan and more recently Norwich have also been linked, along with newly-relegated West Ham.

Meanwhile, Premier League Wolves are the latest club to be linked with Town target Keiren Westwood with the Irish international keeper set to leave Coventry on a free transfer this summer. Leicester, Celtic, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Everton are also reported to be eyeing the former Carlisle man.

JB going to the scum would be a bitter pill to swallow.

But.... I'd rather that than him playing for a Championship side other than us.

NOt sure why everybody is getting all worked up and complaing about a "lack of trasnfer activity".....the window itself does not open until July 1st, most "due" to be out of contract players will not be released until June 30th and are enjoying vacation and not even eotertaining interest. I do not see the likes of Arsenal panicking about players in the "close season" as it is the dead part of the year, so please lets all come back off the ledge and let it get closer to the end of June when you really start to see activity ramping up.

Did people honestly believe JB would stay?! I was slated for suggesting he wouldn't sign for us on a fraction of what he is used to being paid. Bottom line is and always has been; JB will want the best deal for JB and perhaps more tellingly, Hull will want the best deal for Hull. It's madness to think they will willingly pay him 3M to leave!

Overall, I agree with posters who rightly point to JB's injury record. Yes, he was excellent for us on loan - but the risk was low(ish). If he got injured, he could return at the end of the season. Imagine paying all this money and he misses half the season. He should never have been voted Player of the Year - despite his decent performances.

Re signings. Although I agree it's early days, we shouldn't overlook PJ's comments of having players signed, what three weeks ago now. It's the same old thing. IMO Norwich's success last year was down to them having most of their business complete BEFORE pre-season training. We were still looking after the season started. Norwich's players had 'bedded in' - ours hadn't. I blame the CEO for this. We know ME is negotiating fees with clubs, we know PJ has targets (as did Roy), but the final part always seems to go wrong. Clegg is the one who negotiates the player wages.

At the moment we have a very small (and very poor) squad - we need to do a lot of business. Leaving it til a couple of weeks before the season would be bad news IMO.

All those who put Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz boring move on,

Do so, it's exactly the same as being linked with someone. If it happens then it happens, He's not our player and never was so makes no differance what so ever. like we keep saying day in day out, we'll get excited when pen is put to paper or they are holding up the town shirt.
I'm sure Paul J knows what he's doing and he wont be held to ransome by anybody.

If it was a case of just adding one or two quality signings to bolster the squad I wouldn't be overly concerned about lack of progress so far. To be fair an early bid was lodged for the Doncaster duo so I don't necessarily think its a case of lack of activity on behalf those behind the scenes. However, I would be surprised if PJ has more than £4-£5 million available in his kitty. A good proportion of this is probably being (or will need to be) reserved for that elusive 20 goal a season striker. What is Connor Wickham's worth? He may or may not be a 20 goal a season striker next year, the point is we wouldn't release him unless somebody came in with a bid far in excess of his current value, so what does £2.3 million buy you in the striker stakes? What worries me is that we may be going to try and resolve this issue first to see how much of the kitty is left for other players. For sure we are going to have to look at a few out of contract players so given that we were 3-4 experienced players light during last season then with the loss of Norris and McAuley we are looking to bring in around half a dozen new players. The words time & gel spring to mind.

Reckon Jimmy will ultimately be beyond our pockets. However why not swoop now and offer the likes of managerless, cash-strapped Cardiff £3-4m for Chopra and Whittingham combined signing? IMO would be as good a statement of intent as getting Jimmy back on loan.

I've watched this site every minute I can as it's normally acurate in it's predictions, and I've seen all the differing post be they positive or negative. My concern though is real in as much that we are now some three weeks in to the close season and we have had nothing solid other than a rebuke from Doncaster and a report that PJ is meeting a player at PR.

I believe that PJ knows what he wants but Clegg is stopping the process with his lack of experience within the beautiful game. Bearing in mind that PJ had started sorting his plan "A" and "B" out as soon as he got here in order to start signing players early, so that preseason training would start well; something is obviously not quite right. We need a signing within the next 2 weeks latest otherwise we shall start the new season playing catch up again. Clegg is the common denominator, and needs to shape up or ship out.

Good to see Norwich blowing all their premiership money before they even get their hands on it. Go on Jimmy take them for all you can, then settle back for the season with a knee injury!!

whoever JB signes for it will be interesting to see how many games he plays. Is K Dyer fit yet? been quiet on him, dont think Bullard or Dyer are worth taking a chance on, unless we have money to burn.Pity !!

All this negativity is unbelievable, lets not go overboard the way we did, when keane took over and we all believed we were heading for the promise land. The positivity was way off then and the negativity is way off now. The season only just ended.

Look at it diss way Dissboy. Maybe the Keano disaster was caused by the new club mentality (Evans/Clegg) and Jewel is now caught in the same web?!

I can't believe all the people moaning about no signings yet. As someone else has pointed out we cant BUY anybody until the transfer window opens next month and anybody out of contract is not going to sign for the 1st club that comes along.
Which of the players we have supposedly been interested in have signed for another club? I can't think of any. We put in a bid for Sharp and Coppinger and it was turned down. I am sure they will be sold and it may well be to us - they haven't gone anywhere else.Nugent , Chopra etc haven't gone anywhere else. Virtually no one has moved yet so get a grip everyone.
