Robson Told Me All About Town
Robson Told Me All About Town

New Town striker Michael Chopra says he learnt all about Town from his time working under Sir Bobby Robson at Newcastle United. The 27-year-old, who joined the Blues from Cardiff for £1.5 million last week, came through the ranks at his hometown club with Robson handing him his senior debut in a 2002 League Cup draw at home to Everton.

Chopra says he’s itching to get his Town career started: “I know Ipswich is a big club. I worked under Sir Bobby Robson at Newcastle so I got to know all about the history and standing of the club from there.

“The stadium is great, it’s a big club with a fantastic set of fans. It’s a nice part of the world and I am looking forward to it.”

Chopra made 10 starts and 21 sub appearances for the Magpies, scoring three goals before moving on to Cardiff for £500,000 for his first spell in June 2006, having been at Watford, Nottingham Forest and Barnsley on loan while at St James' Park.

Meanwhile, reported Town target Nathan Tyson, who was linked with Town earlier in the summer, has completed his Bosman transfer from Forest to Derby, signing a three-year deal.

Dissblue - when did he have a chance to join previously ? We had a bid rejected last year and as he was under contract he couldn't join. This year bid was accepted and he has joined. Or have I missed something ??

Dissblue:

Wasn't entirely up to him, tho, was it? Cardiff wanted a bigger fee than we were prepared to pay.

Four million down to one and a half really does sound like good business and about time we took advantage of another clubs plight ! Really hope he does well, if we get the right back up for him there's no reason he shouldn't.

Even dead Sir Bob is doing more for this club than Roy Keane managed alive.

they people die twice... once when they leave us and once when there name is never spoken again.

Sir Bobby will allways live on in our hearts and in our club.

Chopra is clearly saying the right things, he coming across very well. I have high hopes for him. Im glad we have signed him early so he can get fit with us over preason, as this will be key for us. With out doubt he will be our top scorer next season!

He could say:

"Ipswich are a small club with no ambition, the stadium is rubbish and so are the whinging fans. That's all I know about the club. I'm just here for the money."

but that's unlikey to be popular with his new fanbase!!!!

New players always say these things. Proof is when you start scoring goals.

definite feeling of Marcus Stewart deja vu
a player who has always been of a good pedigree, joining us just as he hits his peak and helping us to promotion within a couple of seasons
he's a good honest talented player, and good to have the hugely under-represented indian sub continent (albeit UK naturalised) represented in our team

Why on earth do we still think were a big club. Its that type of living in yesteryear attitude that gets us unstuck. We are now just a average championship side, thinking we are a big club,is the reason for some fans impatience.I dont have much time for norwich, but i have to admit,we constantly go back 30 years to past glories.

Won't score goals if we don't make the chances for him - I'm still worried about our midfield creativity and will be happier once PJ sorts that side of things out.

@denhamblue we never were a big club even in our glory years....we were always medium club punching well above our weight. Unfortunately that is why the way football is organized today I doubt we'll ever see a club out size do that again. However I disagree with you about living on past glories. Past glories define the pedigree of a club and we are a club with a very good pedigree......

well im with mikeybloo on this one chopra is a dam good singing how ever we need to sort the midfield out, i think if we can shift leadbitter on and use that money we can find that talnted center midfileder who will actually look up and feed the wingers and the forwards with killer passes, unforchantly leadbitter doesnt fit the bill as he only passes side ways and backwards when players have the opotuinty going forwards, aka when martin came back in the side in acres of space he never passed to him once, the bloke is a baffon,

but i feel with have the flanks sorted in carson, martin cievelli edwards and peters but its the center pairing need sorting as well as the back four

How much of a sh1t hole must Cardiff be if he is saying that Ipswich is a 'nice' part of the world.

But he is saying all the right things; say something nice about Bobby and we will love you :D

Badger, Suffolk is a nice part of the world. He won't be living in the middle of Ipswich town centre, he'll get himself a house in Woodbridge or somewhere like that so he'll be living in a nice place. I think he'll be a great signing as long as we give him service, which has been mentioned above.
