Jewell: Bullard Deal Just Can't Be Done
Jewell: Bullard Deal Just Can't Be Done
Monday, 13th Jun 2011 14:18

Town boss Paul Jewell has revealed that the club has ended its pursuit of former loanee Jimmy Bullard. The 32-year-old Hull City midfielder spent a hugely successful spell at the club in the second half of the season and won the the Blues' Player of the Year award but the Town manager says the financial side of the deal is beyond the club at present.

Jewell said: “Jimmy was great for us and we were good for Jimmy but realistically it just isn’t going to happen.”

The Blues boss says he talked to Tigers director of football operations Adam Pearson last night but the deal just can’t be done: “We just can’t afford to pay what Hull want and what Jimmy wants.

"He’s not just on a Premier League contract, he’s on a top Premier League contract.”

Jewell had been keen to sign his former Wigan player on a permanent basis but always admitted that with Bullard having two years remaining on his £45,000-a-week contract at Hull it would be a very difficult deal for Town to do. Hull are unwilling to loan the former Peterborough and Fulham man unless a large proportion of his wages are paid by the loaning club.

Bullard has been reported to have been in talks with QPR in recent weeks, while Norwich, West Ham and Wigan have also been linked.

The one-time England call-up made 16 appearances for Town having signed on loan in January, scoring five goals.

Like we said Bullard is purely in it for the money. He was never bothered about playing for you next season . Remember what he said about its not about the mone,y what a great manager PJ was etc etc.... As long as he was still drawing his 45k he has no loyalty. Hopefully somebody will buy him. He really isn't liked up her. Sadly its JB who holds all the cards not Hull City.

absolutely Gutted :(

although people shouldnt slate JB here, maybe he was happy to take a drop in wages but Hull just wanted a too bigger fee for him for which we couldnt afford

he was on 45,000 a week at hull so they would have wanted the cash which covered his wages whilst there

IMO its hull that is the cause of us not being able to get him, not JB

he'll go to a premier league club for about 5/6 million i reckon- something we just cannot afford

Thanks for giving us something to cheer about in a dismal season Jimmy, but no player is worth 45K a week, especially in the championship. We move on. COYB

IP3 must be living in a fantasy world of football manager!
How you can possibly criticise Evans for not opening up his cheque book is beyond me and any other fan with a brain in their head.
There is a WAGE STRUCTURE and Business Plan in place - it is to ensure we survive and operate sustainably within our limits. Not to run up huge debts and go into administration again - or did you miss that??

If you want commitment from Marcus Evans - how about buying £30million of debt, and pumping what must be in the region of £15million in transfers so far (at an estimate). If that isn't commitment from a Chairman in the Championship - christ knows what is!

Please dont be deluded about why a deal cant be struck. Hull City have tried several times to give Bullard away. No one (other than Hull City) are stupid enough to give the waste of space the kind of wages he is on. We cant play him because of a play bonus so he will just rot on the bench back here. "Its not about money" yeah right. I am sure if you pay his wage demand he would be yours

Why are people moaning at people moaning about Jimmy B?

After all Jimmy did spin all the nice stuff and made everyone love him by saying he'd love to sign and its not about the money.

I mean he was obviously bellsh!ting from the start but a lot of people on here fell for it, so i think they have the right to be a little upset

i dont get it.why didnt hull just let him go on a free, we cud av offered him 30k a week over 2 years.they get rid of the wage thats crippling them and we get the best player in the division for 3 million quid for 2 years?

SuffolkBlue88 added 15:07 - Jun 13
@the beat - because most first team players receive £10k? Why would be pay £30k a week for a 32 year old in the Championship when it's probably the equivalent for 3 standard first team player wages or two key first team player salaries?

At 30k a week, you value a 32 year old at £3.06million in wages

oh I just love the pompous arrogance of those sitting on their fannies slagging off JB for "BS-ing" us, being a mercenary blah blah blah - excuse me, were you present in the room/on the phone when JB discussed his options with his agent? Did he invite you to share his thought processes when he was making his decision/s re his future?

Maybe - just MAYBE - it is actually about the football, how the hell does anyone know that he hasn't got an offer from a Prem'ship club, and if he has, who the heck could blame him for wanting to go up a level.

Suggest people keep their gobs zipped till they actually know what they're talking about, rather than talking from a basis of ignorance.

Cheers JB, you breathed new life and zest into us and our other players when we were in danger of dropping to the 3rd tier, and I'll always love you for for that, your passion, your approachability and your style. Top man, wishing you all the best for your future.

It seems pretty obvious to me that everyone has tried. Jimmy said it is not about the money - i dare say if there was something like £40K a week on offer and a two year contract or £25K a week and a four year deal he'd sign. I doubt he was even seeking a like for like deal - but after the next two years what income will he have? Jimmy Bullard did not set the bar that high.
Instead of all the flouncing about why not expend some energies trying to get FIFA, UEFA, FA, FL anybody to close the GAP between Prem and League? There lies your problem. Players can earn £10k, £20k, £40K in a Premiership squad when the next division cannot pay a tenth of those sums.

FAO IP3;

Are you Peter Risdale?

You have no clue about football. Do you not think that Chopra is on reasonably high wages?

ME has nothing to prove to ignorant people like you.

Many thanks for helping PJ settle the squad down JB good luck wherever you go

Is this a good time to pop back on and say 'I told you so'?

Jimmy just tells everyone what he thinks they want to hear, he's as thick as two short planks. There's no doubting his ability, but he was never going to take a pay-cut and whoever he eventually ends up playing for next season, you can guarantee he'll say it's where he always wanted to be.

@Suffolkblue88. i wud pay him 30k a week cus like i said hes the best player in this division by a mile.he cud av been the difference between a top 6 finish or a relegation fight.Basically Hull are stupid for wanting a fee.every week hes there it costs them 45k for a player they cant use. 3mill for a player of his quality for 2 years is peanuts, especially if he helps us to the premier league

I love being right usually, but wouldve liked JB to have sorted a deal here.

We don't want a fee, we've made it very clear that he's available on a free to anyone will to take over his contract.

Well Said Clive Baker- anyone who beleived that Bullard would take a significant drop in money had to delusional.
I would not take a drop in salary to go and play football even for ipswich. I can tell you whether your take home is 1K/mnth or 6K/mnth the money goes and I expect that Bullard finds a something to spend/ invest his 100k/mnth in that he would not want to give up.
Do we really want a crock like Bullard though?

would love to have had him here BUT those bemoaning Mr Evans, spending over the odds for a player who is very injury prone is crazy, there will be other decent set piece midfielders out there that are young and hungry and wont cost over the odds.
