Roberts Second Striker Signing?
Roberts Second Striker Signing?
Monday, 13th Jun 2011 22:57

Blackburn striker Jason Roberts is reported to have held talks at Portman Road earlier today with manager Paul Jewell keen to add a second new striker to his squad. Rumours of another potential recruit being at the club to speak with Jewell have been circulating on the TWTD Message Board throughout the afternoon and Roberts is said to be that player.

The 33-year-old, who was a member of Jewell’s 2004/05 promotion-winning Wigan side, has been linked with the Blues since May when the Town boss refused to comment on the speculation.

Roberts started his career with non-league Hayes before moving on to Wolves for £250,000, during which time he went on loan spells at Torquay and Bristol City.

However, after another £250,000 switch it was at Bristol Rovers where he made his name, scoring 48 goals in 88 starts and five sub appearances between August 1998 and July 2000.

This form led to a £2 million move to West Brom, where the Londoner enjoyed a less successful spell - 86 starts, 15 sub appearances and 27 goals - and joined Portsmouth for a brief loan in 2003/04.

Jewell took Roberts to Wigan for £1.4 million in January 2004 and 43 goals in 99 starts and four games from the bench followed in the next two-and-a-half seasons.

Blackburn were successful with a £3 million offer in July 2006 and Roberts, who has won 22 international caps with Grenada, scoring 12 goals, moved on to Ewood Park, where he has netted 25 goals in 77 starts and 64 sub appearances.

In January, 6ft 1in tall Roberts signed a new deal aimed at keeping him at Blackburn until the summer of 2012 with an option for a further season, however, Rovers are understood to be prepared to allow him to leave in the summer.

During 2010/11 Roberts, who was awarded an MBE in 2010 for his services to sport in Grenada and London, has scored five goals in 14 starts plus another 13 matches as a substitute.

Would be good to see PJ bringing in a quality midfielder who is a gifted passer of the ball as well as a talented winger. One of which would have to be a wicked set piece taker as we need that badly.

Hopefully:

Fulop
Edwards,Delaney,Ingimarsson, Kennedy/JW,
winger, Leadbitter, DM, Martin.
Wickham, Chopra

Chruchmans, you're talking crap. Go to bed.
You say bring in Roberts, and you agree that it should be a 1 year deal, but then you say you need to replace the squad, something which means it would be a 2 year building plan?! You're just chatting for chatting's sake
