Fülöp’s Father Confirms Turkish Interest
Fülöp’s Father Confirms Turkish Interest
Wednesday, 15th Jun 2011 17:48

Town keeper Márton Fülöp’s agent and father Ferenc has confirmed that Bursaspor are interested in signing his son. Earlier this afternoon TWTD reported that the Hungarian was being targeted by the Turkish side.

Fülöp senior says that so far only tentative discussions have taken place: "We've heard about their interest, the Turkish team are considering making an offer, but the talks are at a very early stage.”

Fülöp junior has only a year left on his Blues contract, having signed from Sunderland for £750,000 last August and seems likely to move on during the close season with manager Paul Jewell looking to bring in a new senior number one.

The Bursa-based club recently targeted West Brom keeper Scott Carson but have now turned their attention to Fülöp, who has been in and out of the Town side since Jewell took over from Roy Keane in January.

Despite backing his current keepers towards the end of the season, Jewell is understood to want to bring in a new first choice this summer, having last month made an approach for Coventry’s out-of-contract Republic of Ireland international Keiren Westwood, who now appears to be on his way to Sunderland.

Arran Lee-Barrett has signed a new two-year deal and, despite being picked ahead of Fülöp for a spell towards the end of the season, looks likely to be seen as back-up rather than a regular starter. Brian Murphy opted against extending his stay and is currently looking for a new club.

Fülöp’s exit this summer has always been on the cards with Jewell keen not to allow players’ contracts to run down in the same way that David Norris’s and Gareth McAuley’s this summer.

so they have NOT made an offer but his father and agent is having talks, isn't it against the rules?

If Fulop has no intention of signing a new contract it would make good sense to sell him and he must also be on a large(ish) wage. However, IMO ALB is nowhere near good enough, so we will have to ensure that a decent new No. 1 is signed. Hopefully this will be in addition to the 5 other players PJ wants to sign. Shame we ley Murphy go, because I thought he was on par with Fulop and a million miles better than ALB - who despite his effort is nowhere near up to it.

If we do sell him, I hope Jewell is prepared to replace him, afterall we can't stick with Arran Lee-Barrett for 46 games.

I know we have two new players on the books, and we are allegedly looking at up to 7 more, did that include a new keeper as well?. But at this rate we could have 11 new players if they all come off. Now I thought PJ did not want to make quick wholesale changes like he did elsewhere as that was not good. However we might see a much changed team come next season.

Sorry about that.

Russell Osman was always a decent backup GK. For those old enough to remember 0-0 at home v WBA when he went in the sticks after Cooper got injured early on, and had a blinder.

Good shot stopper but basics poor. Flaps at crosses way too much for my liking.

jaydee - great call. Joe Lewis would be good. No chance of Mackel-Smith though (IMO).

If we were on the telly every match he'd be the best keeper in the world..sadly he saves his best for when the cameras are on him.

God help us if ALB has to play in more than a handful of games ,cause the lad is league 2 standard at best. We need 2 keepers ahead of him, so i hope Fulop doesnt go to Turkey or Mr Jewell has some replacements lined up.

Joe Lewis or Ben Alnwick and get Adam Smith and Pearce from Bournemouth
Miller up front with Dos Santos and take Rose then we sell Wickham for Spurs for £10m and loan him back - stick it to Harry !!! Dos Santos , Rose and Alnwick plus £10m deal !!!

Well cant see fulop being too chuffed being left out towards end if the season. Looking likely he'll go. Jewell seems to have his fingers in many pies so a new glovesman looks likely. Joe murphy on a free wouldnt be a bad replacement. Matt duke, dean gherkin, brad guzan, joe lewis all good possibilities. Think more will be know once teams return for pre-season. Exciting times!

Murphy and Lewis for me, but I'll go with Paul Jewell, I don't believe he and his team have chosen badly so far.

Town had a joke defence at times last season. Fulop was inconsistent but is still one of the top keepers in the division.

If he leaves I wish him well - his replacement, if any (?), will be under pressure to perform.

Exeter keeper - Paul Jones was very good - Think he went to Pboro on loan? if so Lewis or him would be a good addition plus Ben Alnwick - way down the list at Spurs

Would be a mistake to let him go! He is good enough, keep him and focus all the efforts in bringing in better players in front of him!

Good shot stopper, very poor command of his area. That comment could sum up a huge number of keepers, and certainly covers Fulop.

It won't be hard to replace him for someone cheaper but of similar quality. The difficulty will be finding someone better. But maybe PJ will be happy just to clear the wage bill a bit and get someone similar in.

He is a great goalie, PL calibre. The fact that a team that will be in europe next year are after him says is all. we should't sell him, unless he makes stupid contract demands, which giving how his agent father seems to be is unlikely.
