Magilton Linked With Watford Job
Magilton Linked With Watford Job
Monday, 20th Jun 2011 17:30

Jim Magilton has become the second former Town manager to be linked with the vacant boss’s job at Watford. Magilton, 42, has been out of work since leaving QPR in December 2009.

Over the weekend, Roy Keane, whose Suffolk home is up for sale, was claimed to be in the frame for the role vacated by Malky Mackay when he joined Cardiff last week.

Meanwhile, Magilton’s former Portman Road team-mate Tommy Miller has been offered a contract by Blue Square Bet Premier side Gateshead. Miller was released by Sheffield Wednesday at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old has previously been mentioned in connection with his former club Hartlepool, while other clubs at League One level are also likely to be interested.

@bluemurder

Agree totally. Magilton could make an absolutely excellent manager. In my humble and uncontroversial opinion, he did a bloody fabulous job at Town when really the club should have been relegated. He didn't do so well when he had some dough, but the fact that Ipswich remained in the Championship despite one of the largest clouds ever looming over the club when he got "promoted" to Head Honcho, for me that was more than anyone could have asked, with sauce on the side and extra chips too!

cheers

I agree. Shame he took over when Marcus Evans took over and got the fans' expectations up with the mon£y he was initially throwing at the club.

Agree that the expectation was probably too much for him to deliver on at that time - Given a couple of seasons at Watford, where I can't imagine the expectations are so high, he could really develop into a good manager.
He's got the passion, maybe too much passion at times.

Would he give youngsters a chance and be able to work on a limited (albeit bigger than last season) budget?

He had the passion and love for the town but not the tactics or game plan
Jim Magilton legend as a player
Not sure if he'd do it at Watford but we'll see

I disagree I'm afraid. I think JM is far too hot headed and not sure if he has the tactical know-how. None the less an excellent player and servant to ITFC and I wish him well.

Agree with above posts - when the club spends big money it rarely works out. Burley, Magilton and Keane fell into this trap. Joe Royle had no money but achieved better results than the last 2.

Ipswich fans generally are quite harsh on big money signings.

Good luck to him if he gets the job

Magilton certainly has his flaws, but he did well here early on in his management career. We finished 15th under Royle and Magilton improved that to 14th, then 8th (indeed we were near the play-offs before Evans' money arrived). The season he was sacked we ended 9th and did not look coherent or progressive, so it was right to get rid of Magilton albeit with some sadness as he has real passion for the game and was a very good player for Ipswich.

He is probably hoping he gets it, lashes it up and get the sack after 6 months and walks away with another very very good pay out!

Now that is something he is very good at doing

Magilton needed to cut his teeth at a lower level when in actual fact he had a baptism of fire taking over at town at a very difficult time, having to evolve to meet the demands of a very un-Ipswich like new owner, having to learn how to spend the millions well (look how Burley got it wrong as soon as he had money to spend in the Prem) and then onto QPR which must have been a nightmare. This is yet another tricky job to take on. I am certain that a man with his passion and desire to play the game properly will eventually do well but he needs to learn to walk before he starts running. Mind you he'll always be a legend in my book for the hat-trick in the play-off semi against Bolton - happy days!

Can peaple over the magilton and keane eras. We have a new manager whos going to have a go now. These 2 guys are now in the past and now lets move on. Its similar to Jordan Rhodes.Theyve gone. Get over it and who really cares if they areselling their house or whatever. These guys are getting on with their lifrs and so should we

Watford and Jim could be a very good "match" tbh. Id certainly wish him all the best of luck if he got the job. I also suspect he would get a very good "PR Welcome" if he returned as manager of Watford this season.

Jim recognised his lack of ideal background and preparation...see the blog
below. Perhaps he'll be better prepared now. Good luck to him.

Did a very underrated job here..only went slightly tits up when he was given cash to spend..hope he gets another crack at management at this level.

In my heart of hearts,I hope he's back here in the hot seat sometime soon.

Best of luck Jim.

Oh and some of the above comments having a did at Magilton really are pathetic.

Move on.

terrible manager, who was good due to the previous regimes hard work (in fact Burleys hard work as BFJ lived off his legacy).

he might make a good manager but should spend some time on Football Manager to learn how to manage.

No thanks lightningboy - square pegs round holes abject football. Games against Birmingham on Boxing Day at home was the worst i have ever been to and we've seen some shi*e over recent years.
