Jewell: Ellington Still Has the Hunger
Jewell: Ellington Still Has the Hunger
Wednesday, 22nd Jun 2011 10:56

Boss Paul Jewell says new striker Nathan Ellington still has the hunger to succeed after a number of lean years with Watford. Ellington signed a two-year deal at Portman Road yesterday having been released by the Hornets at the end of the season.

Jewell said: "Nathan had a phenomenal goals record when I had him at Wigan. West Brom and Watford paid big money for him but he has lost his way a bit recently and his confidence has dropped.

"I had him on loan at Derby but we weren't winning games and it was difficult for everyone there at the time, but I know he can score goals at this level.

"We've got him on a free, he's 29, which is a good age, and he will improve the squad. He's good in the air, gives us something different and I'm delighted to have him.

"When we met up to talk about coming here, I looked into his eyes. I could see the hunger was there. The desire was back. I've got confidence in him. Now it's down to Nathan to show what he can do."

I'm sure with your guidance PJ, he will give it his best shot. Hope he really turns out to be our dark horse 20 a season man.

having Ellington in our squad would add a lot of competition for our forward positions and he has things that he can teach players like Wickham...
Only good will come from this signing!

Think CW will be on his way this summer, so Duke will be playing alot of games for town, him and Chops will be a force of this i am convinced!!

oldbri - Thanks for that. Just had a look at the link. OK, he didn't score that many, but he still looks quick and doesn't waste many balls . . . AND he manages to keep hold of the ball. A spot of shooting practice and I feel that all will be fine.

Still think its Wickahm and Chops up front with Ellington from the bench

If Wickham goes we will look for another striker to partner Chops

Thanks for the youtube clips. Watching that you notice that the duke always wants the ball, is prepared to beat people and looks very strong on the ball. I think he is a great FREE!

He has the ability without a doubt but can he remember where he left it all those years ago?

Am very excited at the prospect of Nathan Ellington playing for town next year. He looks like he's got a massive amount to offer, including the bulk of Kuqi and the skills of Counago, I honestly think he will be our 20 goal striker next year.

Watching that video has made me become somewhat optimistic about him now. Yes he didn't score many, but his control, strength and vision of the game impressed me. Again he could be a good pair with Chopra up front if the chemistry is there. Could cause danger to many championship defences
