Tranmere Turn Down Cresswell Offer
Tranmere Turn Down Cresswell Offer
Wednesday, 22nd Jun 2011 12:08

Tranmere boss Les Parry says his club has turned down an offer from a Championship club for Town target Aaron Cresswell. The 21-year-old left-back is out of contract at Prenton Park having turned down a new deal but with Rovers entitled to compensation as he is under 24 years of age.

Parry said: "I spoke to Aaron yesterday and we've had a bid from a Championship club which we've turned down. It was way lower than we expect for him.

"We're expecting everyone including [Bayern Munich target] Dale [Jennings] and Cresser to turn up on Wednesday 29th [for pre-season training] because they've got a contractual obligation to us. Until they go, they're still ours."

Various sources in the North-West have previously reported that Cresswell is close to joining the Blues with the player having been able to talk to other clubs and potentially sign a pre-contract agreement since January. Swansea and Doncaster have also been mentioned in connection with the Liverpool-born full-back.

Elsewhere, Dagenham and Redbridge are reported to have accepted an offer from a Championship club for winger Danny Green, who has also been linked with Town. Peterborough were said to be close to a deal a fortnight ago.

We must be the most active team in teh chapionship so far in this window. Some shrude business being done by the new heirarchy so far and I suspect that if this is us making an offer it wont be too long until we get him at a bargain price or if not, we move on to someone else who can add value to the club without being rediculously over-priced! Long may it continue!

Just goes to prove that we can get players in for the right money contrary to Mr Keane's belief!

Surely the contractual obligation only lasts until 30th June when it would run out? He could then leave and we could get him and the fee goes to a tribunal?

I'm nearly getting to the point of thinking that I haven't wasted my money on renewing my season ticket - only nearly!

Some way to go yet methinks!

Snap em both up before pre season then that makes 5 players we got & only spend 1 mil. Then get 1 or 2 experience players then rest younger players. Thought my season ticket was a waste i see not was worth getting one now.

If he's out of contract what gives Tranmere the right to turn any offers down?

Cresswell would be an excellent signing.

This is much more positive news than the previous signings. Ellington has had his best days and is very much in the Stern John mould. Ingimarrson is past his sell-by date and is certainly no replacement for Mc.Auley. With Delaney / Smith in tow we will have huge problems in central defence this season. Jury is out on Chopra - Billy Sharp would have been worth the additional money and he is younger and sharper than Chops. We really do need to look at players down the leagues, such as Green and Cresswell. Look at Norwich!!!

"If he's out of contract what gives Tranmere the right to turn any offers down?"

Becuase he's under contract, under the age of 24, and they've offered him a new contract. He's still their player until the end of the month, and as he's under 24, they're entitled to compensation - either an agreed fee between the clubs, or one set by a tribunal. tribunal fees are rarely lower than what the buying club has offered, so Tranmere have little to lose in rejecting it, and waiting for the tribunal. Just like in the days when we held out for a better fees for Tony Vaughan.

I was about to say what Campag has, if he's out of contract he doesn't have any contractual obligation - Preston simply have a right to a fee (if this can't be agreed it will have to go to tribunal) - unless the reporting is all BS and he's still under contract.

And in respect of Green, SSN was saying that an offer had been accepted but it didn't mention us as having been linked, only Posh and AN other - can't remember who... But they very rarely get it wrong when a bid has been accepted.

I was hoping we might be getting Cresswell and Green. Shame { that's what comes of being greedy }, but we still don't know it isn't us who's gotten them. Fingers crossed.

I really like these sort of players being linked. it has been proven that you can find some real gems from the lower leagues (e.g. Walters) and they are at the age where they are still improving.

Was it us then I wonder
I'd have him over kenedey any day

I'll be really annoyed if we miss out on Green, it'll be like Charlie Austin all over again. Surely we're a more attractive proposition than Posh? Cresswell would be a great acquisition as well. Do the deal and sign em both up!

Bring this guy in. He clearly wants to come and is the sort of young, hungry, lower division player to bring in alongside the experience. He will learn from someone with the experience of Kennedy, and more than likely be his not-so long term replacement.
