Leicester Agree St Ledger Fee
Leicester Agree St Ledger Fee
Thursday, 30th Jun 2011 11:49

Leicester City are reported to have agreed a £1.2 million fee with Preston North End for centre-half Sean St Ledger, a Town target in January and again this summer.

The Irish international is set to begin talks regarding personal terms with the Foxes and the deal appears likely to go through without complications.

Despite having signed free agent Ívar Ingimarsson after his release by Reading, Blues boss Paul Jewell wants to add another central defender to his squad with Gareth McAuley, Troy Brown and Tom Eastman all leaving the club this summer.

Last week, Bournemouth’s Jason Pearce, another player believed to be interesting Town, joined Portsmouth.

Meanwhile, Leicester are also reported to be in talks with Sheffield United regarding striker Ched Evans, another player mentioned in connection with Town this summer.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman says he wants to keep former Blue Owen Garvan at Selhurst Park, despite his lack of involvement at the end of last season and a £250,000 offer from rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.

finds it funny that people are saying lets bid 1.3 or 1.5 to steal him......PNE have accepted the biud of 1.2 and given the player permission to talk to the club....why would we offer more than the accepted bid people.....not like they are now going to tell Leicster oh we have changed our minds we have a bigger offer....that is not how the world works.

Not good enough in my opinion. Too short for a commanding centre half and that's what we need, along with someone with pace.

I'm happy wth Delaney and Ingimarsson and maybe getting a young prospect from Chelsea or Arsenal on loan for the season?

All these posters saying bid higher - A fool and his money are easily parted.

If PJ thought he was worth a transfer fee of 1.2 (the figure that PNE have accepted) he would of gone there and tried to seal the signature on personal terms and the clubs ambition.

There are always a lot of factors involved, and at the end of the day the total package wasn't palatable to town or the club wasn't what St Ledger wanted.

i said St Ledger was joining Leicester last week , old news . We have 3 decent centre backs for this league and can get another on loan as cover more pressing is right back and a creative passing midfielder to sit in the centre .

@IP3 what the hell does Leicester bidding have to do with Clegg? We haven't bid so I take it for what ever reason Jewell isn't interested...........blaming Clegg because a player you liked wasn't bid for is the sign of a total moron..............and just to add PJ hinted at being interested in players the papers haven't pick up on and maybe that is why there has been no bid, quite simply PJ don't want him......

Lucky escape for us but if PJ still wants him, Leicester will have "found him out" by the end of the year and we might get him on a free in January.

From the mixed comments on this blog it would seem the price is probably too high. Let's move on and trust PJs judgement - his record to date is sound.

What a bunch of queens most of you lot are. St. Ledger is nothing special and if we had really wanted him I am sure we would have bid by now. He is no big loss, trust in PJ, he will come up with better.

algarfan........

Re St Ledger it's not just about the fee, I expect he see's Leicester as a more ambitious club, high profile manager and lots to spend. As a player I can't say I blame him.
........i wonder if leadbitter, edwards and martin saw Ipswich as an ambitious club with a high profile manager with lots to spend.....look how badly that ended!!! expect leicester to be also rans once again this seaon as Sven bails out in january...st ledger was a central defender with a relegated team....they let goals in! ..not sorry hes not joining!!!

if PJ really wanted to bring SSL to PR then he would have made a bid by now so to me it is not us 'losing out' - perhaps he has his eyes on someone else!

Even without the sale of Connor , Town should have had this deal sealed up weeks ago. We had previously tabled a bid which was rejected, why didnt we got back in with another bid ?

A very good CB has now joined this seasons probable Champions !!

Clegg's fault.

Probably more to do with wages. Think it is right that the Blues have a wage structure and dont want to break it. Leicester on the other hand seem to be spending a lot of money in the hope of buying their way out of the league including wages.

In an ideal world that might work but we dont live in an ideal world and it could all go horribly wrong for them!

We have to bid 1.5 mil!

Are Leicester hoping to go up purely because they are buying pretty much everyone?

Disappointing news - but fair do's toLeicester - they seem to be pulling out all the stops. It's essential that PJ signs another CB. Ingimarsson as we know is unlikely to play a whole season, which just leaves Delaney and Smith - neither of which will frighten strikers of other clubs.

Hope we have a plan B in place.
