Leicester Agree St Ledger Fee
Leicester Agree St Ledger Fee
Thursday, 30th Jun 2011 11:49

Leicester City are reported to have agreed a £1.2 million fee with Preston North End for centre-half Sean St Ledger, a Town target in January and again this summer.

The Irish international is set to begin talks regarding personal terms with the Foxes and the deal appears likely to go through without complications.

Despite having signed free agent Ívar Ingimarsson after his release by Reading, Blues boss Paul Jewell wants to add another central defender to his squad with Gareth McAuley, Troy Brown and Tom Eastman all leaving the club this summer.

Last week, Bournemouth’s Jason Pearce, another player believed to be interesting Town, joined Portsmouth.

Meanwhile, Leicester are also reported to be in talks with Sheffield United regarding striker Ched Evans, another player mentioned in connection with Town this summer.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace boss Dougie Freedman says he wants to keep former Blue Owen Garvan at Selhurst Park, despite his lack of involvement at the end of last season and a £250,000 offer from rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.

Shame he could have done a job for us ......maybe. Lets move on to another target, but we definately need a CB.

St Ledger is an average defender. He is not worth £1.2 million. There are better denders out there who are available for nothing let alone a million pounds. PJ should not rush into buying a Central Defender as you need to have the right partnership at the back as you do up front.

I am hoping he spends wisely on this area and buys a defender who has pace and is at least six foot two inches.

Er Cleggy perhaps you should spend more time signing players and less time on TalkSport.

St Ledger is hard work, apparently causes issues in the changing room, remember the Barry Fry documentary? I would like to see Caulker of Spurs here, he is big and very mobile and has been linked with other Championship clubs but as yet has stayed put. He must be waiting for something as he aint gonna get in Spurs squad let alone the team.

If we miss out on St. Ledger, Sol Campbell would definately be worth a punt on a free, maybe someone like Morgan from Forest, solid, no nonsense CB! What's Shittu up to nowadays?

Gazump, gazump, gazump.

We have the money and we've got a cheap CB already.

Strange one this.

Have all the people on here who want to dive in and try and steal him away from Sven:-
(a) ever watched him play, he is average at best and I just don't see him adding anything to us and as Essexnblue says he is hard work and our dressing room is pretty much together as one at the moment
(b) realised that he might not want a move to Suffolk
(c) not got faith in PJ to bring in someone better now we have some more transfer cash - Caulker or another strong young CB on loan working with Delaney or Ivar would be far better IMO

But we need to get on with bringing someone in.

Caulker snapped up on loan by Swansea

Delaney gets in the Ireland team ahead of St. Ledger half the time so no loss there - Treacy is the player we want from PNE. Yes we need a Centre Back but as lots of people have said there must be some better options out there. Also, can we stop this fixation with height? Being able to read the game and play the ball and having the pace to recover from errors are far more important than size and I for one would like a ball playing defender in Ipswich colours for once! Bring back Mark Venus!
What we really need is a creative midfielder and a proper right back NOW PLEASE!
